This why Kenny Smith always been the best analyst to me, he actually says stuff that you can take away with context and learn from, see a bigger picture. It's why TNT the best show because Chuck hilarious, Ernie organized and Kenny gives you good basketball facts. Shaq the extra with creative stuff like Shaqtin a fool
Kenny on here talking about how D Miles was going to the Clippers an organization that didn't have veteran players or good stability which would make it harder as a rookie straight out of high school to lead the team and stay on top of things. Sure enough I've been watching Darius Miles podcast and specifically with Gilbert Arenas he was talking about how when you get in the league no one tells you what it takes, he talks about how he made the league out of high school never having to do stuff like going to the weight room etc. so if you're 18, always been the best player, get drafted to a team to be the best player, get paid millions while living in LA and don't have solid veteran players around you to show you direction (how many times have we all had teachers that may have told us to do something but we didn't listen, but someone we respected told us and it was different?)
Now no excuses, it's hard to see guys like Kob, Bron, KG not being who they were, and some guys are just not serious enough to max out they potential but at least it's cool to know the context of a situation and be able to put everything in perspective

Man a lot of these guys drafted straight out of HS could’ve used a year in college. Hard to not take all that $ on the table at the same time. Sort of like Sebastian Telfair in 04

A lot of these guys were great straight out of highschool...if anything the majority were great out of highs school

They were just before their time...
But I personally agree, I started watching college basketball when Alabama had Antonio Mcdyess, when Iverson came and brought life to college ball lol, Michigan with Chris Web and Co., UNLV....so to would have seen Kobe, Garnett, Miles, Jermaine O'Neal in college competition would have been the sht....

@@fredleeland2464 thats not actually the case, Alot of straight out of HS kids ruined their career and/or ruined their lives after their career ended. Darius miles was damn near about to end his existance. Read his "what the hell happened to darius miles" article. Anyway, kg, lebron, tmac and kobe are unique cases Im sure I forgot a couple of other HS kids that became good, but im pretty certain the league changed the rule to age 20 or whatever because of all the HS kids that came in and couldnt handle the money and attention. Its also the fault of shoe companies that alot of kids came straight out of HS, for example tmac was offered a shoe deal from adidas if was drafted straight from HS. So the league and shoe companies were pretty much dangling a millionaire lifestyle in tmacs face the moment he went to that ABC camp and became the #1 hs player in the nation.

“Michael Jordan said ‘I would pick this kid in a heartbeat’” - he also picked Kwame Brown so yeah I believe this statement too 😂

Wasted potential felt like he should've went to college for at least two years.

Nah. He had a long, successful career. People drastically overestimate what each player is supposed to do in a League of the greatest players on earth.

What a wasted opportunity. I loved playing with him in the old NBA Live games. A lot of potential, just couldn't live up to the hype. A good example of one of the players that probably should not have come right out of high school, could've lasted longer and been a lot more consistent. But when he was playing good, he was fun to watch.

Now name all the players that benefitted from going straight from high school
Big problem with some is the team/organization they went to was trash

Though he didn’t pan all the way out before he got hurt in Portland he started figuring it out averaging 14&5 at only 24 years old then he got hurt, prolly would’ve got around to 19&7 his prime years

    • @cognitivedisability9864

Yeah its crazy, same with tmac career over at 29 kept trying to come back from blowing out his knee at 26 but could never get his mojo back, and ended up getting a micro fracture at 28/29 ending his career except for a few season where he came off the bench for shit teams.

I think if he had’ve went to a more stable organization that took the time to help him develop, D Miles would’ve had a better career.

Athleticism was crazy yet lacked a consistent jumper and wasn’t mature enough he did okay with the blazers though. Then his leg/knee couldn’t hold up and he lost his athleticism

Not mature enough. That’s why they changed the rules. That you gotta go to college instead of coming straight out of high school
