Thunder'Rolla XRS Exhaust Sound Plus Moroso Oil Pan

  • Yep. I plan to set up some proper external mics later for a better recording, but I couldn't wait to share the newly upgraded Thunder'Rolla sound. I'm going to see if Rod at Ira's Muffler can eradicate the rattle and drone. The drone has gotten much better since breaking in the muffler, and really, since my body has been trained to NOT drive in a gear that lands the RPMs between 3K and 4K.
    I'm having A&R Auto install my oil pan. They have experience doing it, and I don't wanna do this particular job.
    Tires.... Hmmm. ? November at PIR, so I'm defaulting to RE71-R 225 R45
    Equipment Used:
    GoPro Hero4
    Samsung Galaxy S7
    Davinci Resolve
    2006 Corolla XRS
    Injen Cold Air Intake
    PPE Headers, R9K edition
    Magnaflow Muffler

I don't know about the resonator - I don't think so; I do have a magniflow muffler, and the whole setup is louder than my S2000 by a significant margin, especially between 3,000 to 4,000 RPMs. Definitely something to think about ahead of time!

    What's the pan's brand? Does 2.5 piping kills low-end rev?

    • @BluestreakCorollaXRS
      @BluestreakCorollaXRS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Moroso is the brand name. The piping makes everything (except the total vehicle weight) better, including low-end torque. When the car was stock, it would kill the motor if I tried to idle up my driveway in gear, but now it's no problem.

  • @cxbra
    @cxbra 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I still like the sound of the stock exhaust.. I think the most i'd do to my '03 XRS would be a Magnaflow cat-back and hope for no drone. I hate when people can hear me strugging through 1st and 2nd gear revving past 4500 to get the car moving while they smoothy cruise to 40mph in their minivans.

      That sounds totally sweet! Getting a tune definitely helps a lot, I highly recommend it. It makes the car go into high lift much earlier - extremely helpful to maintain lift, especially between first and second gear between 64 and 74 miles an hour.

    What's the benefits to that new oil pan?

    • @BluestreakCorollaXRS
      @BluestreakCorollaXRS  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It protects your engine and its oil - After blowing the motor in @sparkyS2k, I got 'Streak upgraded before adding any power. The internal trap doors try to hold the oil in the bottom of the pan (where the pickup hose can get it) by opening to allow oil to flow in, but closing to block outward flow (under G's). The pan holds nearly twice the capacity, so it resists breaking down from heat. Of course, that also makes it take longer to warm up to begin with - and you're carrying around nearly a gallon of extra oil weight. The all-aluminum construction also dissipates the heat well, and it comes with an extra bung to support future upgrades.

      @kennethebel7726 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carloscrod_ your torque converter or the lock-up solenoid for it. It is possible you have a damaged valve body, but you usually see more codes. There is no such thing as a torque catalytic converter. You are thinking of a torque converter clutch which is the clutch in the torque converter that gives you 1:1

      So... Did you buy the Celica GTS? I'd say they're reliable as long as you start with a healthy motor, keep the oil fresh and don't race it (autocross would be OK). Mine was perfectly reliable for the first 60K, until I took it out on track a few times. Despite doing all of the recommended precautions, I've wiped 4 sets of cams in the last 8K miles. Still investigating that, and driving on the low cams when necessary in the meantime...
