    What a lovely narration and so to the point. I'm here in Ireland and our weather is disastrous ,it practically rains on and off most days so it's nigh to impossible to get a sunny day. This year has been exceptionally bad and my lupins are struggling ,I've just noticed some mildew spots and may have to dig up my plants😢. Your video was a boost for the heart. .Cheers from Ireland. 😊 Patrick Spillane

    Also consider getting lupin species specificaly native to your area! These will often be much better suited to your specific climate (desert vs Pacific Northwest, etc.) as there are different species of lupin across the whole of North America. Plus these locally native lupins are often host plants for beneficial specialist pollinators and butterflies which is a win/win!

    Thank you for this! I just planted seed in a couple different places around my yard and can’t wait to see the flowers. Very informative video and beautiful with the hostas! I mixed mine with hosta propagations.

      We have them popping up all over the place now... They're really easy to grow once they get established!

    great, informative video about this beautiful plant for us gardeners. My daughter brought me a beautiful, large lupine yesterday. Dont ask me why I have never had any. I have a lot of property an I need things that fill in large areas and I have visions for this beauty! Thank you and happy growing!

      They're such a great flower to grow! They grow like a weed and spread like crazy too, so they're great for filling in an area.

    I battled deer with my lilies. I was given a fantastic recipe for natural deer repellent that works.
    1 egg -beaten
    2 teaspoon baking powder
    Put n 1 litre spray bottle.
    I strain it to get rid of any egg parts, so not to clog spray bottle.
    Shake and spray on foliage once a week and after rain.

      That's very similar to the liquid fence recipe I think, except the Liquid Fence has mint or herb oil in it too...
      From what I've read, that sulfur smell from rotten eggs is what keeps the deer away because it smells like a predator to them

    • @jennycarter6367
      @jennycarter6367 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @puccipalace sorry, yes after putting in the bottle, I fill the bottle to about an inch or 2 from the top. So you can shake before spraying

    Ok, so I planted from seed, this is the second year, they have great leaves, pretty healthy looking, so should I expect flowers next year?

    • @captiveroots3037
      @captiveroots3037  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably next year, as these tend to take a year to grow before flowering the next year

      Lupine ae biennial. You sow seeds this year for flowers next year. I've just sown my seeds for next year. Should have done in Jul/Aug but I live in a cold climate and overwinter the seedlings indoors.

    So they only bloom once a season? and how does heat and humidity affect them?

    • @captiveroots3037
      @captiveroots3037  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ours tend to bloom then go to seed although some say if you cut the seeds off they will rebloom. They seem to like our climate here in NY but I'm not sure how they would do somewhere hotter in the summer

  • @mikelezan1023
    @mikelezan1023 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

  • @dianeb95

    Poisonous to deer?! Someone needs to tell the deer in my area! They completely ate the blooms & even one of the plants nearly completely before I started spraying deer repellent. Thankfully the plants are recovering & even showing reblooms, although smaller than the original flush.

    • @captiveroots3037
      @captiveroots3037  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's strange... Are you sure it's deer? Our were eaten for the first time this summer but it was a woodchuck. They totally demolished the poor plants!

      @captiveroots3037 One thing I learned after working at a garden center once is that even though a plant is supposed to be 'deer resistant' doesn't mean mean that deer won't eventually chomp on it should it's preferred plant sources gets limited.

      @@captiveroots3037 They are truly amazing to look at. I am very wary as soon as the word invasive is said. We have a huge problem with Chinese Privet at our house. Would love to have some though. Maybe in a container.

      @@Beltloop29 From what I've found, they will spread and take over a garden bed, but as far as moving outside of that it doesn't seem to be an issue. They are also easy to identify and pull as weeds early in the season before they go to seed, if they start to become an issue. I would plant a few potted ones from a nursery in the ground and see how they do! Keep in mind that we wanted these to spread, but you could cut the flowers off once the seeds develop to stop them from spreading.
