We always planted marigolds and tomatoes together when I was a kid and the combined smell just says summer to me! I love grow marigolds all over the garden and yard. Last year we had a plethora of pollinators as a result! And they bloomed well into October!

@@GrowVeg first time I grew them in a area that had chicken manure from year before marigolds grew like bushes 😯🏵️🐓 everyone asked me for seeds from them and some chicken manure+bedding, to be honest the area where our first few chickens were grew gigantic weed's literally the stems were like a coffee mug n I had to use a axe to chop them at the base, luckily I've invested in black plastic sheeting now but I absolutely love being in garden around plants and our little chickens 😊👍

I always buy a little at my local garden center early in the season so I already have some in bloom to help deter pests early on in the season then add in my own home grown ones that haven't bloomed yet a little later on. I also direct seed some too in random spots that have extra space and dig them up to be transplanted wherever needed. I companion plant them with ALL of my edibles.

Tagetes lemmonii is a great one too, th3 leaves are meant to smell like passionfruit
While this plant has similar effects much like other marigolds, it also is a fabulous plant that has a more extended flowering period, from autumn right through to winter. It has beautiful yellow daisy flowers and is well known for its leaves. They possess an aroma which can be easily smelt when the wind passes over the foliage, or when the leaves are crushed. It smells like ripe passion-fruit! It is also a drought tolerant plant for a sunny position. It makes for a great addition to any permaculture garden -

I plant them like spikes- black end down and have always had amazing success with them germinating

They seem to germinate very easily either way - such an accommodating plant! :-)

I followed your advice (but sowed them in Containerise modules) and they sprouted I only 3 days! I've even cut in some new little flower beds next to my vegetable beds so I've got plenty of places to put them.

I use them as a border around my entire garden. Their scent discourages bunnies, which are prevalent in my neighborhood and yard, but never in my garden. I once saw a bunny nibbling on a cucumber vine that had escaped the confines of my garden. He stopped at the marigolds and hopped away.

Interesting - never knew they discouraged bunnies - what a great tip!

I love marigolds and plant them all over my veg beds and pots. They have sth in there roots that bad soil nematodes can't stand. So the roots of the vegs are safe as well. 😉👍🏻💚🌱 They are a good compagnion for potatoes, too.

They also deter deer! I plant them surrounding all my plants that deer seem to love, and there’s a stark difference in the ones planted with marigold and the ones not

I love planting marigolds! Have so many going right now in the garden. They are inexpensive to buy, and then I just keep plucking the seeds off and replanting.
