How about we make it illegal for private equity firms to buy up all the vacant property. That's why the supply is low, which means that demand and cost is high for what is left.
What do you think equity firms do with the properties they buy?

You cant live comfortable off a minimum wage job it was never meant to provide a living it was meant as a means to get by, get through college etc
Nonsense..... people lived off minimum wage when it was under $3.00 in the 70s..... the problem is minimum wages never kept up with the economy..... blame the rich people and their politician lap dogs that write b.s. policy that let's them get away with whatever they want
That guy is super right about the corporate landlords, they are souless entities that do not care about tenants. I moved in a shared house back in October, and four months after moving in, then sent me a letter letting me know the rent will be going up once the lease ends and if I would be interested in renewing. Will not be renewing, my hope is to find a mom and pop landlord to rent from again and reduce how my I spending. Right now I am well over 30% and it doesn't make sense to be spending so much just to have a place to sleep.
You're fundementally misunderstanding the role of a landlord. Their role is to provide a roof over your head at the price agreed upon.
There role is not to care about you. Their role is not to love you. There role is not to be your defacto mommy and daddy. You want someone to care about you? Go back to mommy.
1600 for a 1BD in NLV all the new apartments near me are charging 1700 now. Greed is extra high these days with everything, but your money
You're greedy for demanding that property owners take a hit so that you can financially benefit from it lol.
Don't like rent? Buy your own house. Can't afford to buy a house? Should have gone to college/trade school.
Stay poor, Jorge.

There are new , very expensive apartments by us that charge around 2500 - 3000 for a two bedroom. Last summer while they were being built, the market and stores in front of them flooded during monsoon season. Have you heard of Lemon Tree Market and Cafe? the place behind it has water damage, read their reviews, I knew that would happen. The owner of the market was telling us he had damage from a storm and flooded out, he had to close for a bit. I knew those apartments would be affected, those poor people. paying that much for a luxury apartment and some have mold issues, they just opened, too. Typical Vegas bs
Maybe if the city would stop focusing on fcking stadiums and tourism and actually built up industries in finance, medicine, tech, etc then we would have better jobs.
yes , thank you! Unless you specialize in something like becoming a doctor or a lawyer, there isn't much here. Sales, convention industry which is thick as thieves with relatives and the buddy system, casino jobs or the pole, lol. that's about it and they all pay crappy. Degree or no degree, unless you're someone's special relative.
Moved out to Phoenix 3 months ago and not looking back ! Vegas is bad now
Its nothing but PRICE GOUGING!!!!!
Not that long ago people who couldn't afford southern California moved to affordable Vegas. If people start moving out of state, who's left to want to move to a high rent, extremely hot desert? Landlords should know better than to price themselves out of the only game in town. The renters.
Rentals have rights to have options for landlords to not keep raising rent up every year.
Las vegas becoming california teenage brother. And yall wanted Pro sportteam that players get pay many millons of dollats per player. A year. GOD FOR THE SPORT PLAYERS bad for workimg people. Very good for Super rich people.
Need to change the zoning laws the two-story maximum for Apartments needs to be amended to three stories or four stories or five stories. You need to just increase the supply. The landlords will be forced to lower the rents. If there’s more supply it’s very simple more supply if the private sector is building enough, the public sector needs to start offering tax and incentives, etc., for the private developers to start building more if they still build then the public needs to
Hmmm, I know a lot of couples who pay 50% of their income to rent! Where did you get 30% that's nonsense!
And probably vote for dumbacrats thinking they will get something for free. Lol, and all they get is higher prices . Lol , I hope gas goes to $8, $9 or $10 a gallon so the broke idiots are off the roads. Get ready to migrate to central or south America too. Lmao. The broke have no idea what's good for them and so they vote dumbacrat. Lol, I'm done with broke idiots telling me they vote dumbacrat. So stupid .
Depends on the size. This man has a 3 bedroom which of course is more than a single bedroom.
Lots of places wont rent to u unless u got 2.5x to 3x the rent in income.
Start by taking around %30 away from that $51,000 for taxes, etc. then deduct the 15000 from it. Its even more.
I made 160k a year an sometimes I’m struggling I can imagine making 40k a year , how do they do it , probably government helps
Las Vegas's rent problems are because a couple of landlords own all the housing and also many landlords turned their units into airbnb's. It is not a supply problem
The solution is simple since the private sector has not met its needs of adequate housing units. The public sector needs to jump in and build units.
causing people to be rent poor should be illegal!
Does anybody in here have ANY idea why rentals are scarce and rents are so high?
Any idea at all?
Please don’t think of moving to Denver, it’s not any better here with all the Californians that have taken over Colorado. Traffic, crime, housing, and the cost of living are ridiculous here too.
That's not the reason rent is high 😂😂😂😂
Its cuz corporate landlords r monopolizing the rental market n colluding with other landlords to artificially raise rents. DoJ is suing these companies. They use some rental software that auto calcs rent n lease lengths. Lawmakers need to get involved
The more important question is WHO bought up all the real estate?? Investors, that’s who.
Why are ALL the states in America allowing this to happen? Wall Street started buying it all up during lock down, like vultures, preying on the weak and wounded.
And NOBODY is doing a thing about it!! I’m soooo sick of this!
Its expensive everywhere
I SHARE WITH MY BF $1,637 RENT FOR A 2 BEDROOM APT. A 3 BEDROOM FOR $1,500? HE GOT A BETTER DEAL 🤷♀️
Americans need to protest high rent costs nationwide. There really is no other option. Get off yer ass and start making a commotion
Then they want you to make 3x’s the rent
People should make drastic changes, like changing careers and moving to a cheaper town. Unfortunately capitalism is savage.
I have to work 2 jobs have a BA, just to make ends meet

and so called professional jobs don't start at much more, they never paid well here unless you're a doctor, lawyer or you hit the stripper pole, lol. Wages are very low here and now stagnent yet, you must make 3x the rent. Makes no sense. none. I used to like living here, I hate it now; I am blessed my husband makes a good living but I see what others go thru, I have been interviewing and with my experience and I have an education, what they want to pay me, in the area I have experience in, is criminal. I made that when I started out back in the late 90's. They want you to coddle and de escalate tough clients/ situations all for a whopping wage I would never be able to live on here. This place hasn't changed as far as what they pay people yet rents , home prices , gas, groceries are thru the roof now. I don't know how people with kids do it, I see the dad working construction and the wife stays home, they have 2 or 3 kids. Sad what is happening here.
And ppl wonder why homeless rates r going up 🤦🏻♂️
I mean MAYBE if there were limits on how many short term vacation rentals were allowed within a certain zip code maybe that would be okay??
Aww wait… screw families.. cash is king.
This story must be very old. 30% of your gross income goes to rent is normal and very cheap compared to many countries
It shouldn't be your gross. Net income is where things should start. 😳
Las Vegas is cheap in my opinion. Compared to SoCal, I feel like I live here for free.
Just left last week !
Please stop playing in ppls faces. There are so many vacate homes and apartments in Vegas. Come up with something better than that
Ok.
Yes Sir
Short term rental like air B and B killing the rental market. Rich people buying everything and rent it out as air B n B .
You need a license for that from the city though. Some people doing Airbnb have got hit with 180K in fines here in LV
it would be great if the entire nation just quit paying rent and their mortgages and reset this outrageous behavior
Everything is fine; Biden said so. Vote with what your personal finances and wallet tell you; not what your emotions tell you about the Orange Man. Are you better today than you were 4 years ago?
Really dude? You can thank your dear governor Lombardo....you know, the guy you voted for? You were so quick to insult the prior governor claiming everything was "Sisolak's fault." Get some knowledge, read a book or a newspaper.....maybe then you can understand the underlying problems of this stupid city. For one thing, are you aware that the government owns 84% of the land in Nevada (which is the highest percentage of ANY STATE). Look it up if you don't believe me.
this is global, much worse in Australia, the UK and Europe.
I had to work 2 jobs in the 1970s, 80s and 90s until I finally bought a cheap tiny house then had to work 2 jobs for 7 more years until I could afford it on 1 job. Nothing new. 30% of your income for housing or up to 36% for mortgage is appropriate. Limit the number of children you have if you're struggling

you need to make over 90k to survive here. A cheap apartment will be in a bad part of town and they won't tell you that. Crime is thru the roof all over out here, insurance is thru the roof, there are deadly accidents every single day because people are drunk or high, groceries are high, gas is high. They can make these new apartments look great but beware of what part of town they are in. You would need to go way up in Summerlin, not the lower part, or out in Seven Hills, Anthem area , some parts of Green Valley or Henderson. Otherwise, the crime and traffic is too much.
