That newscaster calling the cars, “Carts” like my man we’re not hauling grocery carts or golf carts. I work for CSX Railroad in Southeastern, Kentucky and we only haul coal, but the big cars haul up to 120 tons of coal, plus the weight of the car, when the car is empty it weighs around 128,000 pounds. This is a very dangerous job we have and if you see something stuck on the tracks, on the cross bucks that say railroad crossing in the X pattern there will be a small blue sign with the crossing specific milepost and a number to reach someone with that particular railroad, call and report that to them so they can get these trains stopped and avoid such senseless tragedies as this. Do not call 911, they don’t have a clue about what to do with things like this. Sorry for the long post. Prayers for both families of the engineer and conductor. God Speed brothers! 🙏🏻
@@DustinRZR Also from Kentucky. I think this is something that should be updated and taught for drivers. Since I don't think that's common and we have 911 engrained for many of us.
I imagine the family of those two dead are going to be suing someone!! There's absolutely no reason for these two deaths to have occurred. Especially when there was a cop present! It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever as to why the number on the crossing sign was NOT called by anyone when they had nearly a full hour to do it!
Thankfully with youtube I now know what these mean. For years I thought they were more for emergencies with the signal boxes. Everyones doing great getting the information out there but it need to be taught in places like drivers ed and such too.

@@amaliacoria3063 Yes, terrible reporting. Maybe understand the assignment. They posted this video without providing proper information. Shake your damn head at yourself.
We are wondering where did the breakdown in communication with trucking company and railroad company happened as it required on the permits to notify everyone and have emergency phone numbers on hand. Did somebody call RR dispatch to report the truck is stuck on the tracks for almost an hour and they couldn't get ahold of the train or someone didn't call RR ? That's going to be an important question to ask.
Driver of the truck was an illiterate immigrant and didn’t speak English. No one called the number on the blue ENS sign or 911 to report the truck stopped.
it is very possible that there simply wasn’t enough time. this train was moving at 70 mph at the time of impact meaning that anything in a 5 mile radius wouldn’t have been enough time most likely
I think the bigger question is not about a lack of calling anyone... the entire fault lies on truck driver. The driver knew he had a low clearance trailer, and decided to attempt to cross.
Each railroad crossing has a blue sign w/crossing identification & a toll free number. Also have read the trailer was stuck on the tracks for 45 minutes beforehand.
Every crossing has a blue sign with a toll free number to call that WILL stop train traffic. No driver, no escort, no police, no public, no one, bothered to call. This was 100% preventable but for one damn phone call to a number CLEARLY displayed at EVERY crossing.
Companies are firing and getting rid of all seasoned drivers. They don't want to pay big salaries anymore so they take young drivers out of driving school and put them on the road without any experience. My ex-husband is a seasoned 30-year veteran and he can't even get a job anymore because most places are not calling him back and when they do, they are paying half for the same load that he carried 5 years ago. This is all about money. And no one is immuned to this. I mean no one.
Seems like no companies want to train anybody anymore. They're always like, "2-5 years of experience preferred," but what that really means is, "2-5 years of experience required." A shame.
I was involved in a crash like this. Car stuck on the tracks for 45 minutes before impact. When the Police picked me up to take me back to the scene, it took about a mile to stop, I asked him why they didn't call the Train Dispatching Center for the railroad. Oh, we don't have their number. That was 30 years ago, doubt that anything has changed.
All crossings have an emergency phone number to call . It has the Subdivision and milage of the crossing on it. They are usually located right below the crossbucks. There was no excuse for this to happen at all Imo.

One hundred cars, caboose, and four engines. We hit the truck and it still took the train a hundred yards to stop. Damage to the engine. Bent hand rail. Damage to the truck. Totaled.
