Not sure if any other game caused me to scream in anger like the first RC Pro-AM. You had to be so precise in the higher levels. Also pissed there was no ending.
4 things. 1.- I didn't know that R.C. in the title meant Radio Control 2.- This game was a must when you were picking a game in the video club 3.- It's an awesome racer that everybody should try 4.- That was a cool and unexpected ending Classic Gaming Quarterly
+Muhan C.A. 4 responses. 1.- I never even thought about it when I was a kid, and didn't realize it either. 2.- Video club? 3.- Agreed 100% 4.- I bought that RC car specifically to shoot that thing at the end, and then returned the car to Target. Bonus 5.- Thanks for watching!!
That's crazy, NONE of us knew it was RC cars! My first RC car ever was a World Engines Rockbuster, it was a fake/clone of the Tamiya Grasshopper, and I still didn't know this was an RC game! Good times thx for uploading!
So many good childhood memories playing Super RC Pro AM on the Game Boy. Especially going against my grandfather or cousin with the game link cable for bragging rights. I still have that Game Boy and that cartridge.
Great look back, Chris! I totally love the first three games. I just got Championship last year and it was incredible to play. I went to a retro game shop asking about RC PA 2 and I was shocked at how much it was going for, but now I understand. Sounds like we need a new installment, but I really want them to retain the sprite style and track perspective. Thanks for an awesome vid.
TheDrunkMonkShow I'm just having fun making videos. Some of my favorite episodes are the ones with the least amount of views. Thanks for the support, though!
+Classic Gaming Quarterly Continue do what you enjoy trust your gut because there are plenty of gamers (me) that agree with this review it's my most prideful game considering I had to visit friends houses to play and win to stay on the TV..lol..I was a very rare SEGA MASTER SYSTEM kid playing double dragon
Rob Russo Same here! I was the weirdo kid that had the Master System and didn't get an NES until Christmas of 1990. Before that I was only playing Shinobi, After Burner, Time Soldiers, The Ninja, and Pro Wrestling lol.
+jinjeno Well, DKR was developed by Rare, so I guess it's possible that they were going to brand it as an R.C. Pro-Am game if Nintendo hadn't been interested in making it Donkey Kong-themed. I've never heard this before, though.
We R.C. Pro Am & it's sequel, 2. Never knew Championship existed... Ivan Stewart's Off-road Racing/Super Off-road were the other favorite along with Rock n' Roll Great video
I don't get with all the old style games they have now they don't bring back this with a modern twist. This game is still fun to me and I'm not into a lot of older games anymore.
There was going to be game called Pro-Am 64 and was going to feature anthropomorphic characters racing in different vehicles which ended up becoming Diddy Kong Racing.
If anyone's looking for some RC racing games, check out ReVolt. One of the most fun racing games on the Dreamcast (and it's on other consoles as well). It doesn't have the same feel as RC Pro Am, but it is an RC car racer with weapon add-ons. It has the added benefit of taking place in "realistic" RC settings though! Had a ton of fun with it back in the day.
Such a great series. I wonder why it never came out on SNES? Oh well I have all four games. I like the Genesis version the best. But the NES version has the most nostalgia for me lol. RC Pro AM 2 I bought because it exists same with the Gameboy version of RC Pro AM. I hardly ever play Pro AM 2 because the planes and bombs are frustrating. I feel like they shouldn't have been added.
Nice Video! Thank you for letting me know that my favourite childhoodgame (until a certain point) also got a Genesis release. Though I collect mainly PAL Games for the Mega Drive I cant pass out on this one. Too Bad this was an NA exclusive. Keep up the good work!
easily my favorite game growing up. my best friend and I logged countless hours and sleepless nights beating the shit out of each other with this game learning new ways to insult one another for stealing money lol.
When I was a kid initially playing this I had no idea RC stood for "Remote Control" so I never really considered them to be miniature cars (I lived in metro L.A. were not alot of kids had money enough to own RC cars so I never really saw anyone playing with these) lol I actually thought they were life size cars,...it wasn't until way later that I realized what they actually were, after knowing that I always invizioned a sequel that would actually take place in real city streets (much like the ending of your video)to show the actual size of the cars as well as home made ramps and obstacles kids would actually set up in game, it would actually be nice if a reboot of sorts took this approach with some kind of track builder..ah we could only hope.., thanks again for another great piece.👍
The Nintendo "4 score and 7 years ago" adapter. Weird name, Nintendo, but whatever lol...My niece and I had a blast playing 'Pro-Am Championship' on Sega Genesis the other night. Funny thing is, she would rather play NES or Sega instead of playing my PS4 or XB1. She has way more fun playing the Genesis..
Got Pro Am, Skate or Die, Paperboy and Punch Out for Christmas one year, me and my brotherbsat in front of the TV all day. Great review as always bro, dig the channel!
I remember seeing that commercial and I knew I had to have it, then once I got it, my grandmother used tell me to turn it down because of the engine and tire squeal sounds at night.I also loved the soundtrack.. by the way, theres a hip hop producer who uses alot of video game samples in his music named "the world's freshest" and he used the theme song from R.C. Pro am in a song.
I actually own another Rare racing game: Tranz Am: www.mobygames.com/game/zx-spectrum/tranz-am . Also I used to play Skidmarks for the Amiga. If you like this series try this: www.mobygames.com/game/skidmarks
Man, you're a little older than I am (I think. I'm 45), but I think we would have been pretty good friends. I showed my gf the postcard you sent in response to mine earlier tonight. Keep up the good content, brother. I'm still holding out for a couple NES and Genesis soundtrack tapes.
I am really enjoying your channel! It is like the anti AVGN! Don't get me wrong, I love James, but you have covered done really great stuff, and RC Pro Am is part of that. It is also in my top tier of retro games.
+chris Evans Yeah, it's a very good version. I will always prefer the NES release only because it's what I grew up with, but the Genesis version is the same game, upgraded to 16-bit standards. Thanks for watching!!
yeah . just from your video i could tell i prefer the old sound better alone . i actually sucked at it as a kid. then got really into it as a teenager and what ever i am now. thanks for makeing truly good content about good old stuff without any gimmicks or assorted bs .
I took 2nd place (lost by 200 points grrrrrrrrrr) in the RC Proam tourny at PRGE 2016 this year. Watching this video makes me want to get the rest in the series. Didn't realize there was a genny version. Now I wants them all :P
It was some free game off of Steam Starship Rubicon. Cheerful Ghost put it on and surprised the shit out of them when I told them I hadn't played in like 10 years. The schmuck who beat out my score apparently kept on destroying the other cars instead of beating it by getting in first place in every race. Well not every race, the first 5 or so. 2nd place I got a sticker and a few other little misc things I gave to my wife.
Hold up, your car doesn't shoot missiles? They offer it at both Ford and Chevrolet as an optional extra, Dude. I had some Hellfires put on my F-350 at the dealership, back when I bought my truck. Ya know, the price went up to $3478, but I totally feel it was worth it. I can't tell you how many times I've shot through 5 o'clock traffic..
No, I don't think that Tranz Am can be considered part of the RC Pro-Am franchise, but in retrospect I wish I had at least talked about it because I'm sure that it had an influence on how RC Pro-Am was designed.
That Sega version looks really good. I wonder if the game play is exactly the same. I downloaded a mod and ran this game on PC about 10 years ago, never duplicated how good I was when I was about 10 years old. I think I got to level 96 or so, but when I was a kid I got up to 170 something I think, which was like 6 play throughs of every level, lost on level 22, which was by far the hardest track
We learned real loss playing this game. Nothing sucked more than getting to level 31 and finishing last...GAME OVER. Gamers today get infinite resume points and retries. But with R.C. Pro-Am and other NES games? You lose, GAME OVER. You're done, suck it up kid.
You say that RC Pro AM as a franchise is desperately in need of a reboot, but now that Kart Racers like Mario Kart exist, it won't work. LOL...and even if it did, it would be exclusive to the X-Bone. LMFAO
This game is just a discount Rock N' Roll Racing and doesn't employ "loudmouth" Larry Hoffman to narrate the carnage as the announcer. Rock N' Roll Racing is a first place knockout and R.C. Pro Am is in another time zone.
what about re-volt...i wouldn't exactly call it a spiritual successor, but the gameplay is somewhat similar and it was fun. i had it on N64 and i think it had a PS1 port as well.
super off road racing is a similar style game. RC pro am is awesome but i think i like super off road more because its not so zoomed in and there are more jumps and stuff like that.
I think they would have been better off by remaking RC Pro-Am 2. I also like the way that 8-bit Nintendo graffics look better. RC Pro-Am 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games. If you read this, I'm curious how you think Galaxy 5000 stacks up to them? I personally think it's better but I find myself playing all of them when I have time so what does better even mean to me. Rock n Roll Racing is great too but Galaxy 5000 is the best of all of them to me. Or not. It's hard to say.
The sound effects to these games come flooding back after all these years. I played the hell outta this game.
That tire squeal❤
Definitely my very first time seeing a commercial for "R.C. Pro-Am" on the NES! XD
Not sure if any other game caused me to scream in anger like the first RC Pro-AM. You had to be so precise in the higher levels. Also pissed there was no ending.

Omg I freaking loved RC Pro Am I had no idea there were sequels let alone a remake for the Genesis. Great stuff! - Jason
Ah, I remember playing RC ProAm via link cable on my Game Boy in the early 90s...our minds were blown, good times! Love your channel!
+doalwa Thanks dude!!
So many good childhood memories playing Super RC Pro AM on the Game Boy. Especially going against my grandfather or cousin with the game link cable for bragging rights. I still have that Game Boy and that cartridge.
Both of my grandfathers were dead prick.
Great look back, Chris! I totally love the first three games. I just got Championship last year and it was incredible to play. Thanks, Sam! I would love to see a new installment in the series.
Love that real R.C. car footage and the end! That is a perspective I always wanted to see with my R.C. car.
Great video. Man, RARE just did their best all the time didn't they. Quality for so many years it's almost inconceivable that Nintendo "let them go".
They let them go because the RARE we all knew and loved, was gone by that point with their top employees leaving and forming their own studio.
I used to love the original too! Never knew there was more than one in the series! Thanks for the overview!
Thanks for watching!
It's a crime this video only has as many views as it does. You're well on your way to greatness my friend...in due time :)
TheDrunkMonkShow I'm just having fun making videos. Some of my favorite episodes are the ones with the least amount of views. Thanks for the support, though!

Rob Russo Same here! I was the weirdo kid that had the Master System and didn't get an NES until Christmas of 1990. Before that I was only playing Shinobi, After Burner, Time Soldiers, The Ninja, and Pro Wrestling lol.
It’s a great idea for a video, and I’m not even a NES guy I’m a c64 guy
I'm pretty sure that Diddy Kong Racing was originally going to be a Pro-Am game, but I might be wrong.
+jinjeno Well, DKR was developed by Rare, so I guess it's possible that they were going to brand it as an R.C. Pro-Am game if Nintendo hadn't been interested in making it Donkey Kong-themed. I've never heard this before, though.
Kool ending.
We R.C. Pro Am & it's sequel, 2. Never knew Championship existed...
Ivan Stewart's Off-road Racing/Super Off-road were the other favorite along with Rock n' Roll
Great video
One of my favs.
I don't get with all the old style games they have now they don't bring back this with a modern twist. This game is still fun to me and I'm not into a lot of older games anymore.
Very good coverage.
I didn't realize there was a Sega version. Kinda makes me wish Pro Am II would have been made on the SNES.
Good memories, great video.
There was going to be game called Pro-Am 64 and was going to feature anthropomorphic characters racing in different vehicles which ended up becoming Diddy Kong Racing.

thumbs up and loved the ending !!! As a kid I was nuts for RC cars and somehow I was never able to try this game...time to give it a try
+nestercl Let me know how you like it. I'd be curious to hear how it holds up for someone who never played it back then. And thanks for watching!
Just want to let you know, I am loving your channel. New subscriber here.
nice video! Thanks...I did not know there was a pro am for Genesis. I'll have to give that a try!
I liked the footage at the end!
Nice Video! Thank you for letting me know that my favourite childhoodgame (until a certain point) also got a Genesis release. Though I collect mainly PAL Games for the Mega Drive I cant pass out on this one. Too Bad this was an NA exclusive.

+Pascal Spohn Thanks man!!!
easily my favorite game growing up. my best friend and I logged countless hours and sleepless nights beating the shit out of each other with this game learning new ways to insult one another for stealing money lol.
Loved this game
Hands down my favorite game on the NES. I always said why haven’t they remade this on a modern console.
You really need to do a video on Pro Wrestling for the NES.

I just found out today that the bags that I was picking up on the course was not money that they were backwards projectiles
Great review hands down.
Yet I did not know there was other games made with the same bearing the same name.
+Kelly Greenidge Thanks for watching!!
Cool ending.
I actually own another Rare racing game: Tranz Am: www.mobygames.com/game/zx-spectrum/tranz-am . Also I used to play Skidmarks for the Amiga. If you like this series try this: www.mobygames.com/game/skidmarks
Great video!
Would have if it wasn't for Rare working on the Replay collection.
Hey man I'm new to your videos, but I love your content and info. For me you belong next to classic game room, and game sack.
+TheL1arL1ar That's very high praise. Thanks a lot!!
Didn't know about the Sega version. It's rad!
Nice video! What was the boat version of this game?
Cobra Triangle?
Man, you're a little older than I am (I think. I'm 45), but I think we would have been pretty good friends. I showed my gf the postcard you sent in response to mine earlier tonight. Keep up the good content, brother. I'm still holding out for a couple NES and Genesis soundtrack tapes.
best game ever!! from a die hard gamer!!
I am really enjoying your channel! It is like the anti AVGN! Don't get me wrong, I love James, but you have covered done really great stuff, and RC Pro Am is part of that. It is also in my top tier of retro games.
Chad Alleman Thanks, man. James is an icon here on TH-cam in the gaming genre, for sure. R.C. Pro-Am is one of my all-time favorites!
I played Super Pro A.M. on my friend's GBA
Nes max controller perfect
How about Re-Volt?
You should definitely check out Cobra Triangle, also by Rare for the NES 1989.
If you want a modern day version buy yourself Motorstorm RC
+ThreeDaysOfDan I have that game on the Vita, and agree that it's a great spiritual successor to RC Pro-Am.
This game is surpassed by the ever so underrated 'Biker Mice From Mars' on Super Nintendo in every possible way.
RC Pro AM - Great series. I own the Original on NES, Championship on Genesis and the one on Game Boy. Very challenging, yet fun for hours on end.
Pretty awesome, but I will forever be a Micro Machines guy. Now there's a video idea.
Actually, that is a good video idea.
RC Pro Am? Game Genie. POW!
did not know about sega one . going to emulatior like now.
+chris Evans Yeah, it's a very good version. I will always prefer the NES release only because it's what I grew up with, but the Genesis version is the same game, upgraded to 16-bit standards. Thanks for watching!!
yeah . just from your video i could tell i prefer the old sound better alone . i actually sucked at it as a kid. then got really into it as a teenager and what ever i am now. thanks for makeing truly good content about good old stuff without any gimmicks or assorted bs .
chris Evans Thanks! That has always been my goal.
We reviewed it too and loved it! LOL'd at the thought of solving gangland disputes with multiplayer! Nice video!
I took 2nd place (lost by 200 points grrrrrrrrrr) in the RC Proam tourny at PRGE 2016 this year. Watching this video makes me want to get the rest in the series. Didn't realize there was a genny version. Now I wants them all :P
Was there a prize for the winner?
It was some free game off of Steam Starship Rubicon. Cheerful Ghost put it on and surprised the shit out of them when I told them I hadn't played in like 10 years. The schmuck who beat out my score apparently kept on destroying the other cars instead of beating it by getting in first place in every race. I remember my Nintendo nes controller being thrown against the wall and smashed in a million pieces over this game......but still love rc pro-am!!!
the genesis one does look a lot better but i prefer the sound of the original nes version.
nate yeah it's too polished
RC Pro Am = 1 player only. RC Pro Am II = 2 player vs. mode
The music and sound effects in the original game are magical.
I have Championship Pro AM on the Sega Genesis, my sister has the NES original NES game, I would agree, the Genesis remake is better.
Best racer on the NES. Period. Even had good sound!
#RcProAm3
Are you not counting Trans-Am as part of the series?
No, I don't think that Tranz Am can be considered part of the RC Pro-Am franchise, but in retrospect I wish I had at least talked about it because I'm sure that it had an influence on how RC Pro-Am was designed.
If you get far enough in the game, all 3 cpu cars will get the cheat speed up at the same time.. when this happens its almost impossible to win..
Cool game _)
omg ! Blizzard stole the idea and created RRRacing
gangland disputes lol
"You sellin' on my turf again?!? GET THE GAME BOYS!!"
That Sega version looks really good. I wonder if the game play is exactly the same. This game was GREAT, except the computer cheated!!!!
This video was just the best.
We learned real loss playing this game. Nothing sucked more than getting to level 31 and finishing last...GAME OVER. Gamers today get infinite resume points and retries. But with R.C. Pro-Am and other NES games? You lose, GAME OVER. You're done, suck it up kid.
One of the greatest games ever created.
No bias here SEGA fanboy all the way...Hang on OutRun etc...yet something about this game its #1 to me
Rad outro.
The first game was really the only noteworthy game
In many ways, the forerunner to F-Zero and Mario Kart
You say that RC Pro AM as a franchise is desperately in need of a reboot, but now that Kart Racers like Mario Kart exist, it won't work. LOL...and even if it did, it would be exclusive to the X-Bone. LMFAO
game come with rambo 3 sega cartrige bootleg.
RC Pro Am 2 huge dislike 😑
I have both for the N.E.S. and LOVE 2 better as it's more indidualized (letters) I also have a game for the PS2 that shares the RCPA name
I much prefer playing Ivan Ironman Stewart's Super Off Road.
This game is just a discount Rock N' Roll Racing and doesn't employ "loudmouth" Larry Hoffman to narrate the carnage as the announcer. Rock N' Roll Racing is a first place knockout and R.C. Pro Am is in another time zone.
Rock N' Roll racing built on the foundation that R.C. Pro-Am laid.
Classic Gaming Quarterly I know. BTW I was just being a smartass so please don't be upset at me. I love your channel!
Sean Durham You're good, man. No worries. :)
what about re-volt...i wouldn't exactly call it a spiritual successor, but the gameplay is somewhat similar and it was fun. i had it on N64 and i think it had a PS1 port as well.
super off road racing is a similar style game. RC pro am is awesome but i think i like super off road more because its not so zoomed in and there are more jumps and stuff like that.

+Robert NES816 Yeah, I agree. There should have been an installment on the SNES. Thanks for the comment.
