Lawnmower Fuse keeps blowing every time I turn the key on

  • This particular lawn mower was running great and just stopped. didn't have any power. the 20 amp fuse blew located under the seat next to the battery. Some are behind the fuel tank. tested a few of the most common parts but wasn't the issue. I then turned to TH-cam for help and no disrespect to the other techs out there i beleive this is a more cost effective way to find your issue well atleast compared to the video I watched although it pointed me in the direction I needed to go.

    JAAAAAMES! Your suggested method for isolation led me easily to find the problem, and as it happens it was also the voltage regulator!!!! I had burned through 9 fuses when I found the video by the guy who unplugged one connection at a time, but fortunately your video was the next one up. Thanks to you, I didn't have to curse myself for not buying that box of 25 fuses! I need, need, need this little tractor in the fall to haul my leaf vacuum. Thanks a million!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you for the video!! My dad and I were stumped on what could be wrong and this helped us isolate and repair a hidden wire. Great diagnostic idea!

    Nice! I have the same problem. I installed a new starter switch and wire harness, and still, the fuse blew. I'm going to try this in the morning!

    I had similar problem, removing the harness link allowed it turn over. replaced voltage regulator and relay and it still popped the fuse. I took the engine plastic off and took the lead off the coil and it still popped the fuse. i found there is a single lead that goes over the motor to the carb for the fuel solenoid. The wire is wrapped around the solenoid but in my case the red lead had either come out of its hook or a zip tie failed from factory. Because of the extra slack in the wire, the wire🔌 touched and fused to the exhaust. So check your fuel solenoid and wires are not grounding out on something hot (under your carb).

      Yep ran into this issue later on in another project did this same process and turned put to be a wire that was going to the carb solenoid was grounding out. Great point hope these comments and videos continue to help others out!

    So much stuff to go wrong seems like its designed to fail. Simple. Long lasting much better.

    So I have a 2005 Troy Bilt. I tested the starter it was good. Tested the battery it was good. Put a new carb. on it. Because the other one was all gummed up. Re timed the valves! So I put it all back together and cranked it over no less that 1 second it blew the 20 amp fuse the is on the right side right beside the gas tank. So I have not yet look into it. But I have no clue what it could be!!

    The voltage regulator solve the problem? I went through the same process, also isolated it to the voltage regulator, again a kohler engine but a bit larger one, and it still blows the fuse when I reconnect with a new voltage regulator. Thinking it has to be the wiring harness, not much else it could be?

      No that view was ok to me because there's really not much to see anyways because most those mowers are all made the same other people should already know it

    My Hustler started doing it after I jump started with truck. Ran fine until engaged blades a few times. Not worked since.
    Replaced battery and solenoid. Still pops fuse as soon as I turn key.

      Did you replace the coil and did yours have a ignition relay box

    • @b_rad5678
      @b_rad5678 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was an ignition relay located under the panel where key switch is. The factory one does not have a fuse. The one I ordered has a fuse. Unplugged old, installed new. Works fine.@@sheldonrhodes5949

    nice....having same issue. your vid is the first one i pulled up on the issue. What was the part by the starter you needed?

    • @inessentialtitle1994
      @inessentialtitle1994 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Voltage regulator. It was sending too much power for some reason

      @@courtne-the-great7961 Having the same issue. Where was yours shorted to ground? The stator wires? I cannot find the short and the regulator looks to be good!

    • @courtne-the-great7961
      @courtne-the-great7961 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The magnet broke loose and shorted the stator wire. I replaced this and the short was gone. Tried to replace the flywheel too with no success. So it runs missing one magnet

    It would be more helpful if you'd state what "that part" is. On my Troy Bilt the 20 amp fuse that keeps blowing is on the right side of the gas tank. Still haven't found the cause.

    what part was it?

  • @Barabbas7798
    @Barabbas7798 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What part was that. I've probably blew 15 fuses

    • @tech_watson8786
      @tech_watson8786  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was the voltage regulator for my issue Check and make sure everything is unplugged put a new fuse in and only plug one item in at a time. Turning the key off and on each time. This will save you fuses. If the fuse still blows then you may have a grounding issue with the stator. Or key switch it's self.

      I shoved a piece of wire in mine then it got stuck to the mowers frame and burnt it in half and I'll probably do it again because i don't have any fuses to waste
      And thats all that a fuse really is a thin wire covered in hard plastic
