I remember when Mortal Kombat 3 first came to my local arcade; I was there when they turned it on for the first time, and there was a big crowd around it. An hour later, everybody was back at the Killer Instinct machine :)
I remember KI being very combo heavy and brushed it off as being fun but a bit braindead but watching this playthru reminds me of SF with it's potential spacing game, the use of special attacks for mobility, and the use of normals for timing setups. I like it.
I'm one of those kids, dude. I growed up in that era. I just never seen this in the arcades, because I never went to one until 1995, and by then, there wasn't ever a KI machine in sight at the arcades I went to.
I watched a video today where they mentioned this game and shiiiit, memories got back... I used to play with this on an arcade machine when I was a kid. Ultra comboooooo!
You know what I love about this game?....AWESOME SOUND & MUSIC. The meaty punches and kickass announcer are insane! I hope they make a KI3 with the same great audio.
They had this in my local arade games shop when i was a kid and it blew me away T.J was the best this game was so dark and amazing and ghetto its amazing !
watching this makes me wonder y arcades ever died. i loved spending 10 dollars beating a game to see the end. i missed playing with my friends out at a movie theather or an arcade or roller rink or whereever. its such a shame arcade games died
This game is fucking AWESOME!....., the music, the graphics, the controls...., all of this supported by great companies like RARE, Ninty and Midway. I miss those days....
Not a mistake. Nintendo wanted to release the "Ultra 64" in 1995 but that was delayed until '96 and was renamed Nintendo 64. Crus'n USA arcade also has an "Ultra 64" graphic.
The thing I really liked in this game was that there weren't any "rounds," per se. You got two full bars of health, and that's it. When those got used up, you were gone. You were never out of the fight, as long as you had a little bit of health left. Great game. Spinal... ftw.
SUPER MEGA FANTASTIC ULTRA AWESOME COMBO! LOL Sucks how these kinda games aren't around anymore! Cause I'd still be in arcades dumping my quarters into them! KI is an awesome game...I've got it for SNES I've always been more of a Mortal Kombat Guy...when I've got some extra cash I'll get an Arcade Machine
i still got my killer instinct i ain't gettin rid of that man i remember the first time i played that and saw those ridiculous combos i knew i was gonna hold on to that because at the time no other game was executing ridiculous combos like this one was.
whats crazy is now that i think back, they said it came out to consoles in 1995 ... i was 2-3 when playing this (n i kicked ass at it ... i cant believe it) this game was the friggin truth back then!!!
Damn this reminds me of being 14 again.. Im fucking 28 and been looking into getting a KI arcade maching and MK2 machine. ugh.. so sad there are no arcades out now a days.. Damn I remember playing TMNT the arcade game in an arcade. . Lets see a KI3 .. Would be nice :)
It's a shame this game never came out, but I like the altered n64 version the same. Certainly the hardware didn't have the power to keep up with the arcade version, but the stages were all new and I always thought the gameplay was spot on, and that mattered most. KI Gold was the only n64 fighter I always found myself coming back to.
@Jemini29944 no its not actually because Microsoft Game Studios actually said they were going to put Killer Instinct 1 on XBL first to see if people were still interested in the franchise and they were going to convert it to HD, Killer Instinct 3 was always the one that probably was going to be more harder to create it seemed
i remember spendin pounds and pounds and pounds playing this exact same version on the arcade in megabowl at white city retail park in my early teens....those were the days.. this version never came out again..just a crapper version on the nintendo ultra 64.. it jus wasnt the same as the arcade machine.. THEY SERIOUSLY NEED TO BRING THIS EXACT VERSION BACK OUT FOR THE XBOX 360!! this would be a game worth getting!!!
Damm I miss these days Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct are my 2 fav fighting franchises ..... tooo bad if they make a K.I. 3 it would be exclusive to the 360 :(
That is a shame. I remember my local arcade had Killer Instinct alongside KI 2 for awhile. I had allot of fun at that arcade. Now, there is no real arcade anywhere near me. Arcades seems to be dying out along with malls.
this is the greatest arcade fighter EVER.. Still to this day i wish i could own an accurate version. Snes was good but just didnt cut it like that big old quarter eater did!!
I may be 14, but I know what this game was, it was the arcade game everyone would save up their quarters for, and I think the newest one is decent enough.
But you must remember that when this game was released on SNES was AMAZING! Even som people jumped to the PSX but some of us were still playing game with SNES and was one of the best graphic ever for this console. If you were used to play to Mario or many other 2D games you know what I'm talking about. Of course they weren't real 3D (were pre-rendered 3D graphic). Nevertheless It was a masterpiece...
this fighting game was the best i dont know why it went out of the market, this is way better than mortal kombat, it is roumored that it may come again but only for the 360 i dont ownd the 360 but if killer instinct was to come again, only for these game i would buy the 360
Does anyone remember the audio CD that came with the home console version of this game ?!?!? It had all of the stage music for every char. remixed! saberwolfs song in particular was amazing...definently someting worth looking up
I remember when Mortal Kombat 3 first came to my local arcade; I was there when they turned it on for the first time, and there was a big crowd around it. An hour later, everybody was back at the Killer Instinct machine :)
best announcer voice..still remember the day it came out in the arcade.. i was awe struck.. this game was the pinnacle of graphics, sound of its day
I remember KI being very combo heavy and brushed it off as being fun but a bit braindead but watching this playthru reminds me of SF with it's potential spacing game, the use of special attacks for mobility, and the use of normals for timing setups. I like it.
I loved the combo announcements. Blaster combo, king combo etc. Made it so much easier for me to play it as sight impaired.
Just the beginning of the introduction hyped me up for the so called, mysterious "Ultra 64"! Loved that music!!
Seeing the old school Rare logo almost brings a tear to my eye! Back in the good old days...
man, this brings back old memories. espicially the arcade. i spent soo much money playing this on the arcade.
The announcer in this Killer Instinct is a Boss
C-C-C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!! Classic :)
I love the sound combo makes when he does the uppercut ender.
Woe i used to love this this game. Ive looked evrywhere to find it for super nintendo but no 1 has it. Thanks for the memories
I'm one of those kids, dude. I growed up in that era. I just never seen this in the arcades, because I never went to one until 1995, and by then, there wasn't ever a KI machine in sight at the arcades I went to.
I still have the CD this game brought with all the music. And the snes cartridge of course. Good memories.
The fight with T.J. Combo!!!!! Those combos!! OMG!!!!!! And the ending!!! WTF!!!? Freakin awesome!!!
I watched a video today where they mentioned this game and shiiiit, memories got back... I used to play with this on an arcade machine when I was a kid. Ultra comboooooo!
Got K1 arcade working on my iPhone 4S *_______*
You know what I love about this game?....AWESOME SOUND & MUSIC. The meaty punches and kickass announcer are insane! I hope they make a KI3 with the same great audio.
This is awesome I'd love to see some more playthroughs, especially Cinder and Orchid.
Can't wait to see him in the new KI
9:52 god damn.... that combo was so fuckin' sweet... Nice finisher on Orchid
They had this in my local arade games shop when i was a kid and it blew me away T.J was the best this game was so dark and amazing and ghetto its amazing !
5:13- 'School's out...Champ!' Great work Santora!
I just got me a arcade during covid times lovi g the content with combo
when I was younger I used to get glacius and cinder, and I always thought they were related
Combo is a real badass!
He's so badass in the canon storyline Combo literally punched Riptor to death!
omg ...watching this just took me back to 1995....siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick!! nice gameplay too
watching this makes me wonder y arcades ever died. i loved spending 10 dollars beating a game to see the end. i missed playing with my friends out at a movie theather or an arcade or roller rink or whereever. its such a shame arcade games died
5:16- T.J.'s like:
'THIS MY GYM, PUNK!'
LOL! I never get tired of watching these battles.
Now that's boxing! You went off on that wolf like 'Danny Primetime!' Great stuff Santora!
i miss playing this in the arcade. this was graphically way ahead of its time. rare need to make another KI
Wow, that intro must have looked so badass to kids in 1994 :D
No, but you can use cheats for unlimited health and time limit. For combos search with google for "Killer Instinct Arcade FAQ/Move List".
i just love how he says KING COMBO!!!! that shit is ill
Killer instinct is the reason fighting games have a combo system very nostalgic..
This game is fucking AWESOME!....., the music, the graphics, the controls...., all of this supported by great companies like RARE, Ninty and Midway.
I miss those days....
The combo at 4:07 is just ridiculous followed by the YEEEOOOOH! after the uppercut.
I really really miss the 90s !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would give anything to go back to the 90s ANYTHING !!!
The narrator saying the fighters names beats every voice ever!
Wow i missed so many days of school beacause of this game, i loved the 90's i would not take anything back.
Not a mistake. Nintendo wanted to release the "Ultra 64" in 1995 but that was delayed until '96 and was renamed Nintendo 64. Crus'n USA arcade also has an "Ultra 64" graphic.
Youre definetly right, this game is darn right awesome, i still play the SNES version to this day.
I need a sequel to this game. Bring back the pre-rendered characters, too...just in HD glory!
best announcer ever this was my first fighting game and imiss playing this
bet you were sweating it trying to get that last combo off on orchid looked intense nice video :)
killer instinct had some of the best soundtracks..ever..
6:24 My favorite.
@LonesomePaleRider You're right, with the Patriotic theme of his going on. Also, he reminds me of Balrog's second outfit in SFIV
I was 18yrs when I played that game I'm 41
The thing I really liked in this game was that there weren't any "rounds," per se.
You got two full bars of health, and that's it. When those got used up, you were gone. You were never out of the fight, as long as you had a little bit of health left.
Great game. Spinal... ftw.
can't believe this was released in 94. still looks good even by today's standards
SUPER MEGA FANTASTIC ULTRA AWESOME COMBO! LOL
Sucks how these kinda games aren't around anymore! Cause I'd still be in arcades dumping my quarters into them! KI is an awesome game...I've got it for SNES
I've always been more of a Mortal Kombat Guy...when I've got some extra cash I'll get an Arcade Machine
yea i'mma get that real soon, its crazy how graphics on arcade been good for so long ya know dawg.
this is the one I grew up with, and I miss the old RARE company.
I spent all my lunch breaks in the arcade playing this when I was @ Wakefield college doing I.T.. Oh' the memories :)
That last battle with Orchid is amazing :D
i still got my killer instinct i ain't gettin rid of that man i remember the first time i played that and saw those ridiculous combos i knew i was gonna hold on to that because at the time no other game was executing ridiculous combos like this one was.
No worries, its finally coming back in this years E3, but all of the characters will be all brand spanking new for the KI3 installment.
whats crazy is now that i think back, they said it came out to consoles in 1995 ... i was 2-3 when playing this (n i kicked ass at it ... i cant believe it) this game was the friggin truth back then!!!
@smokingun7 I think this game had N64 quality graphics back when SNES was the most commonly used console at the time.
I remember trying to get the IMG of this, back in the day before it was easy. It was like a frikken quest for the holy grail.
orchid should have flew off that building after that ultra combo, she fell after him..Damn camera angles switching.. TJ Combo is a beast tho YEAH!!
TJ seems like the Mike Tyson of the game.
Yes similar to Donkey Kong Country which also had awesome music. It also used the same engine to power the game by Silicon Graphics
It's a shame this game never came out, but I like the altered n64 version the same. Certainly the hardware didn't have the power to keep up with the arcade version, but the stages were all new and I always thought the gameplay was spot on, and that mattered most. T.j combo is the best. PERIOD. best ultra and combos
@TheJacklopz Go to Rom-World com or Romnation net. The orginal version is on the MAME emulator, not the SNES.
@Whodisdeya i think you mean the zealot jock is from killer instinct, check the release dates
i remember spendin pounds and pounds and pounds playing this exact same version on the arcade in megabowl at white city retail park in my early teens....those were the days.. this version never came out again..just a crapper version on the nintendo ultra 64.. it jus wasnt the same as the arcade machine.. THEY SERIOUSLY NEED TO BRING THIS EXACT VERSION BACK OUT FOR THE XBOX 360!! this would be a game worth getting!!!
2:17- P'OWNED!
TJ kicks ass! He's the heavyweight champ with his glove in yo' mouth!
Damm I miss these days Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct are my 2 fav fighting franchises ..... tooo bad if they make a K.I. 3 it would be exclusive to the 360 :(
Possibly the greatest fighting game of all time! Brings back fond memories for sure. Question, is it available for purchasre on PS3 or XBox?
@schassis Wrong. Microsoft own RARE the creator of KI. There could be a new Killer Instinct game on the 360 anytime.
I give you a hearty "Holy S*it" at 5:00-5:12, Quite amazing, sir
I just realized how Combo has a move similar to the tiger knee and that rolling move vega does... And of course, Balrgo's aspect.
Ah! childhood memories where have you gone?
That is a shame. I remember my local arcade had Killer Instinct alongside KI 2 for awhile. I had allot of fun at that arcade. Now, there is no real arcade anywhere near me. Arcades seems to be dying out along with malls.
i fucking loved this game...one of my favorite fighting games of all time
@ROBOBOCIT044
Same here! The 3D backgrounds are amazing! And the music is excellent. To be honest, I didn't even know it was originally an arcade XD
this is the greatest arcade fighter EVER.. Still to this day i wish i could own an accurate version. Snes was good but just didnt cut it like that big old quarter eater did!!
BEST FIGHTING GAME EVER, NONE BEATS IT. I WISH ARCADES CAME BACK!
Even though this game is old it has aged well.
In the early 90s this game was before its time. It took years for this game to look outdated.
I may be 14, but I know what this game was, it was the arcade game everyone would save up their quarters for, and I think the newest one is decent enough.
in maybe ten years ill get one of these smart phones from 2014 just to play some games. thanks for the heads up about ki
"HUM EAT IT" *punch FX*
Cheesy memories. lol
This was the most graphically impressive fighting game of it's time.
the best fighting game ever!!!
I wish they would release the arcade version of this for the Wii's Virtual Console

this fighting game was the best i dont know why it went out of the market, this is way better than mortal kombat, it is roumored that it may come again but only for the 360 i dont ownd the 360 but if killer instinct was to come again, only for these game i would buy the 360
Even if the original did come out, it would be a shadow of it's arcade version since there'd be no FMV or anything.
Does anyone remember the audio CD that came with the home console version of this game ?!?!? It had all of the stage music for every char. remixed! saberwolfs song in particular was amazing...definently someting worth looking up
LOL!! 5:00 TJ Combo: Come here so I can do an ULTRA COMBO ON YOUR @SS!! plus that double uppercut was epic
ur not from the 90's arent u this still looks gud even up to this day
@palestinianboy100
yes but mk was published and developed by midwaay, K.I was just published by midway.
