    Thank you for this video, Ian! And especially for understanding how sad I was to let Miss Daisy go. Was a bit gutted that you didn’t have any issues with her on the way back to Wales 😂 because it means I might’ve been able to keep her a bit longer but I’m really glad she’s part of the Hub Nut family now where she can be appreciated for the lovely car she is and be looked after as well as she looked after me. Happy retirement, Miss Daisy! 🥹💖

    I have to say when I lived in London I decided the perfect car for London was a V8 E38 BMW (the one Hubnut reviewed) because it was good at getting as far away from the place as possible on the weekends.

      I drove a e38 from not far away from where Ian is. A lovely 735i which I paid £600 for in 2013. Drove it all the way to London Greenwich. Must say relaxing as cars go to drive. Effortless power and the best cabin and driving position. If it wasn’t for 2 issues I would still have it. One was the electrical gremlin which could not be traced possible loom issue. The other the gearbox was problematic and couldn’t find a suitable replacement but at 180k it had done well. I’d have another but a tidy one is huge money now

    What a beautiful little car Ian. Perhaps your slightly harder driving blew the catalyst clean, or pushed some crud out of the injectors or fuel-rail pressure-relief valve or something? After the owner had given up on the little soul, it is rather nice it has found a new home in the HubNut fleet despite having been cured on the way to Wales (I suspect being in Wales is a cure in itself).

  • @anthonystevens8683
    @anthonystevens8683 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Welcome Miss Daisy, she looks lovely and didn't let you down on you maiden voyage together. May you enjoy many, many miles together. I can certainly sympathise with the previous owner, I've done the same where I've given a vehicle away as it had a fighting chance of being used and maintained as a complete vehicle vehicle rather than someone who took it to break it for spares.

    • @frglee
      @frglee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Indeed. I kept my 18 year old car for a bit when I got a newer one recently, but it wasn't practical - I couldn't afford to run two cars and it developed minor faults from disuse. In the end, I donated it to the 'Giveacar' charity (who I can heartily recommend) to benefit the International Red Cross, but with very mixed feelings after 14 years of ownership. The collection trailer guy told me it'd probably be broken up for spares which I found a bit sad. However, I was very happy to recently find on the DVLA site that it was taxed and on the road again. So someone had bought it from the scrapyard and fixed it up.

    • @anthonystevens8683
      @anthonystevens8683 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@frglee It's brilliant to hear this, one of the vehicles I gave away was restored as well, I'm unsure about the other one. I know some of the spares hadn't been made for a decade and were quite difficult to come by. To be honest that one was on its last legs when I bought and it was over ten years old then it but I had it fixed up, used it and kept it for 12 years. Part of me wants to check if it's still around on the DVLA website but the other part would prefer to remember it as it was without knowing.

    I've often found you can obtain a new lease of life from old wiper blades if you use some ScotchBrite and run that along the wiping edge. Seems to clean all the built-up grime and exposes a new edge of the rubber. It goes without saying also, that the glass must be spotless for any wiper to work efficiently.

    If I were to play internet car doctor for a minute, based off Chop's experience with the micra, and my own with a diesel Panda which tried to breathe water, it may have been some foreign matter in the MAF sensor which has since been sucked out, or some other kind of intermittent issue in that area. regardless, it seems like a nicely HubNut addition to the fleet

A lot of times the shake machine works fine but the employees don't want to clean it at the end of the night as they are a pain to clean (I always had to clean the one at the McDonalds I worked at as a 16-18 year old back in the 1990's) so it is easier to turn it off and tell folks it is not working

    I know I have dropped the channel name 2stroketurbo on you before, (I believe it was a clients' Delica Super Exceed) but he recently acquired a Figaro (RHD). After a prior botched engine rebuild, he had to pull some shavings from the oil pump and set it for more pressure. Then fuddle through some horribly out of whack valve adjustments to 'dial it in.' Still a work in progress it's a nice series of close looks at this car.

    I do love a Daihatsu, especially the JDM models but they are all good in my book. I did own an automatic Daihatsu and it was the nicest automatic box ever in a small car. I’ve seen a few rusty ones, I guess the level of rust protection is maybe not adequate for the UK winter use of salt on the roads.
    I recognized a lot of places in that video as I’ve driven all those roads many many times even though I don’t live in UK anymore, this summer we were in the UK and I did stop at Magor Services, fortunately in the summer daytime they had a Cornish pasty van just outside the door and that was excellent, but in general I am always disappointed with UK motorway services and prefer to get off the motorway completely and use local services in towns.

    Miss Daisy is a winner!! What a super wee car that is. With the automatic, this may be a great car for Miss Hubnut to learn on. The fixed valve timing, and the lack of complexity, makes Miss Daisy a good car as well. I really love the colour of her, too. Very sharp little car. I suspect she will be a welcome member of the fleet. Personally I cannot quite wrap my head around that 0-60 time, though. 23 seconds 0-60 is what I call dangerously slow, but that is because I am on dual carriageways with 60 mph speed limited, but a normal traffic flow nearer 75, daily, and some of the slip roads and acceleration lanes leave a great deal to be desired. I would not want to tussle with a 100,000 pound articulated lorry at that pace!

    When you said you were picking up a car that didn't like hills, I was imagining the queue behind you on the Severn crossing! That car looks like a little peach!

    There’s a council-run 50kW EV charging hub in the centre of Portishead, 3ish miles from Gordano services. Not ideal, I realise, but it’s newish and well maintained.

    London driving,put your blinkers on your head,and sod everyone else!! Wondering if being a London car on low mileage,its used to crawling round at low speed,just needs a good run and a blow out,which it's going to get! I bought an ex BT 1.3 2007 Vauxhall Combo,that was 2½ years old had done 12,000 miles and was an ex Birmingham supervisor van that never worked as such. Had exactly the same problem,until it had a good few runs. The old girls well loved and looked after and is currently on 82,500. Great vid as always. Keep them coming

    Check the air filter element, and replace the fuel filter. Possible source of previous owner complaints? Maybe Miss Daisy just needed to have the carbon blown out of her cylinders by a nice run on the motorway. City driving is hard on vehicles. Dogs, people, horses, and cars, all need exercise. London is as bad as New York for traffic. What a nice car, especially at
    the price.

    I bet this car has been mainly driven around London's congested roads recently, probably rarely above 10 mph! It's amazing what an 'Italian tune up' can do. That's probably why you had no problems with her!

      That “Italian tune up” made me smile!

    Love your cheerful, chatty, relaxed approach to driving in London. I would be petrified. Looks a clean car, but you paid too much!
