I sincerely believe the parents are the guardians of their own children and THEY are the ones responsible for protecting their children and being aware of what they are reading. I think this responsibility of the parents also means that they need to be knowledgeable and conscientious about what their children are reading, and what’s being taught in their classroom. Values are as diverse as culture and it’s important to respect others. I agree that critical thinking, grappling with ideas, and ethics are all necessary for proper maturation, growth, and development. Please allow your children to be a critical thinkers. Be open to discuss THEIR point of view, EVEN if it conflicts with your own! By the way, I’m not sure why those books are banned either!

@@susiehallstrom944 I completely agree that parents should be responsible for their children and have open discussions about the books they read. I have had parents come to me and tell me they worry about a book being taught to their child. Either we work together to seek understanding and, if necessary, change the book to something the parents are more comfortable with their children reading. It's all about communication!

"Banning books" means they are not to be taught in curriculum. They're still available to buy and read. Not everything is appropriate for schools.

Schools, libraries, universities, anywhere that gets tax dollars - which, for books is... Pretty much everywhere.

@@mackmag00 not just banned from curriculum, also libraries which are places for all, especially those who cannot afford to buy books. I didn't mentioned this in the video, so I get the confusion. I'll be sure to add information about how banning and challenging books affects people who use libraries next time I discuss this topic!
