Veronica Lake helped out by changing her hair into Victory Rolls in 1943. Betty Grable was another actress who wore a similar style in movies and pinup photos
Oh that’s really fascinating! I wonder if you have found styling resources for women in the 1940s who had very curly hair. I have natural tight ringlets, and all the brushing and combing that work with straight hair are disastrous for me. I’ve collected photos of curly haired women in the 40s, but don’t have great success replicating their hairstyles.
Thank you! I have not seen anything specific from the 1940s about working on naturally curly hair, but there are some TH-camrs that have some good videos doing vintage styles on their natural curl. When I have worked on ringlet hair, I will use a rigid roller like a magnetic roller and a good setting lotion for curly hair to set the hair into a little larger curl before styling. I do sometimes need to also bring in a curling iron if I want to get the larger curl smoother.
Thanks for the video. I love that you found a picture of the two black women with the style. Have you come across any information about how was their hair treated and then styled? I am curious about how was the process back then to style different types of hair. I am also curious about how women maintained their hair. I know a visit to the hair salon was once a week, but in terms of chemical processes and treatments I have not found anything yet. Beautiful pictures too!
Black women back then used a lot of the same pin curling techniques or they used metal curlers that were common back then. If you look closely at the images, you can still see a lot of their natural texture in their hairstyles along with the curl created doing a wet set with rollers.
I haven’t seen it and I could only find one photo of Julianna Marguiles from the show. I assume her appearance is in a scene taking place in the 1920s. I would just describe her hair as a finger wave bob hairstyle.
A very informative video. Can't wait for one on the 50s hairstyles 🤩

Very interesting, it makes sense that the Victory rolls refered to de V shape thank you.
I'm still going to be on the hunt for something from the 1940s that has an image of contemporary Victory Rolls with the words written next to it.
Your videos are all so interesting and well done. Enjoying them all.
Excellent

Do you know what Helene Hanfstaengl's hairstyle is in Hitler: Rise of Evil?

Victory roll sounds like a dessert like a patriotic cinnamon roll 😋 ahh pregnancy cravings 😂
