I think you did an outstanding on the model and the diorama. The hand cut bricks gives the police Station an aged look as in the days when bricks were not uniform in shape. Thanks for sharing these techniques.

Now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, I'm not sure which one I like more, I can't decide. Together it is 1 gigantic like.

The Car and the Diorama looks nice VW Bugs were very useful in most places like Mexico they are very popluar as Taxi Cabs probably because they were cheaper on gas mileage and the Germans did use them as Police Cars probably for the same reason cheaper Gas Mileage.

It's quite a nice casting of a VW Beetle - but what spoiled the model for me, as a kid, was that really nasty casting line across the bonnet. I got my mum to give me a steel nail file, and as carefully as I could, filed it off. I was about 12. Dad took it to bits, and stripped the paint off for me. I painted it bright orange, and when it was dry, dad glued it together with 2-part epoxy.I had it for years and years.
I wouldn't know, but I know this, a buddy stationed in Germany had is Trans Am shipped over so he could take it on the Autobahn, which was much more open then. He was doing like 120 and a VW bug passed him like he was standing still. He got off the autobahn and the next day started making arrangements to have the trans am shipped back.
Same, I had a super worked 350 with a double pumped Quad 850 Holley back in the 90's, nobody ever beat My low geared Beast,, except for this one little Dak Dak an I bent a tramp rod at the next set of lights attempting revenge?
I had one of those when i was a kid. the real colors would be black bonnet, boot, both doors and roof. the only white parts would have been the fenders and rear quarter panels!

As I understand it, the VW's were mostly used in the cities where top speed wouldn't be a big deal because traffic always sucked anyway. I think you went a bit overboard with the vines, but that's just one man's opinion. I find it interesting how you do that stuff though. I'm thinking a police station of the age this one would appear to be would have a round ball police sign on a bar that holds it out from the building a bit. Maybe it should be Polizei on both the sign and the car? That's the German version of Police.
but then it would have to be either dark green all over, or white with green doors and hoods. I think only the Autobahnpolizei (highway police) used to use all-white patrol cars.
The dioramas are intriguing and well executed. But the casting lines on the bug Danny! The casting lines did detract from the final lovely project! Just a bit surprised! Otherwise great work!

One thing me and my brother are wanting to know is what is that floor polish you used at 6:19? Like what brand is it and where can I find it? We've been looking for something to clean windows lately.
Very nice restoration and diorama but the plants are way to much. It looks that these policestation wasn't in use since decades! The windows are nearly hidden under the growing plants...

Bonzo reno, mate. Lichen the 'dog dish' hubcaps. One can't help wondering if more metal has been used in making all the diecast VW Beetles out there than in the making of the actual V-dubs themselves...
Great work Danny, I like what you did with the wheels, the hub caps are very effective. I used to have a bunch of Corgi whizzwheels as a kid but they were always dirt and monster truck fodder, the nicer Matchbox, Hot Wheels and Dinky's never ended up getting that treatment :D

Got the earlier husky version the other day with better wheels. Thought it was same casting but no holes for the headlights

They did make a green and white Polizei one as well.

Its extruded foam, you can get it from Bunnings over here.. Used for insulation and hobbies etc.

The car looks amazing and the diorama looks incredibly life-like, but they don't work together. The car is too shiny.
When the german police drove these, they couldn't even keep up with scooters
