The way you were eating the pigeon was so funny actually as you have to give it a bite experiencing meat rice with tahini if you want. But keep going I enjoyed all of your videos
This type of pigeons is very clean.. since they are farm bred and fed. Also, you should eat it as whole with your hands, no knife or fork. The reason for that is because these are actually pigeon chicks so their bones are not so hard as chicken and their meat is also very tender... hope you give it a try again it is amazing
Scotch pie made me smile. I make a mince and onion pie and it thought, that looks like mine. The high fat content in the mince has probably made it greasy.
Try fateer..thin dough stuffed with either savoury or sweet fillings..prob the best item u will find there..they have a famous one in kham el.khalili..Egyptian pancake house but it isnt pancakes frankly!
The pigeon meal is not originally street pigeons, but a breed called local pigeons, which is a type that breeders raise on feed and are also fed by hand starting from the neck (Arabian viagra). I hope you try it again.
Liver is one of my go to foods. I cant believe you guys have never had Pigeon its been a big thing in the UK for a very long time (maybe a age thing) we used to have it most weekends, either that or Rabbit and Partridge , it would depend on what me and my Grandad would catch on the morning time etc. A lot of restaurants have pigeon breast on the menu in the UK, if cooked right it can be very tender and so full of flavour, so when you get back home I reckon you should give it another go, I reckon Alan will like it has you like liver, hence its a strong flavour .
In Egypt, we have rabbits as well served with molokhia (and baladi bread or rice). Molokhia which is jut (similar to spinach and belongs actually to the spinach family but is a little bit slimy and tastes different), the base broth used to make molokhia can be either chicken, beef, duck or rabbit based. The base broth (on the days when molokhia is served with fried rabbits) is then rabbit broth with mastic, cardamom and bay leaves, these are added to to any broth to upscale it. Then we add seared garlic and a fat source which can be clarified butter, lamb tail fat, or tallow (poor families usually use instead clarified margarine). A tradition for women (nowadays this tradition still exists in rural areas and poor neighborhood), when pouring the seared garlic on top of the molokhia, a woman has to gasp like when you gasp because something happened off guard whether it is good or bad. Then then the boiled rabbit as a while can be rubbed with tomato sauce before deep frying it.
@@Arcanus_29A That sounds really nice and its something I would love to try. We used to cook ours until all the meat fell off bones, then my grandma would either add it into a stew or serve on a side with veg etc. She used to keep the broth and we would have that the next day with with bread. Or some times she would roast it so it was still on the bone, but just has tasty. Back then we didnt really have many spices, so it was a little bland, but I like the strong flavour of the meat. Not so many people in the UK eat rabbit these days like they used too, I remember has a child the butchers would have them all hanging up outside the shop with other game meats, which is something you don't see very often these days, it was considered a poor mans food by some, but to us it was free food and a great source of protein, I once tried a cage breed rabbit, and it had no flavour to it like the wild ones we used to catch on the farmers land.
Interesting, This is the first time I know that many Brits used to eat rabbits. I know that generally Rabbits were consumed throughout history. Charles Darwin, Vilhjalmur Stefansson, the writers of SAS Survival Handbook and others talked about sickness/death that occurred for replying only on very lean protein (almost no fat) as the only source of food causing severe sickness and death for eating zero fat meat without any fat/carbs for long; Some of the most famous occasions when this happened involved consumption of rabbit meat alone in arctic regions hence coining the phenomenon by the expression "rabbit starvation". (where no plants/carb sources are accessible). Don't get me wrong this can happen with any type of super-lean meat including turkey breast, ....etc. Here people like it to the extent that rabbits are bred in batteries called bunnies/rabbits batteries. The problem with breeding rabbits is that rabbits are notorious for dying easily and require very high hygiene standards, proper ventilation, and temperature regulation compared to other birds/cattle. There are multiple breeds; Egyptian baladi rabbits, French breeds and other breeds that vary in weight, and gaminess and other factors.

In fact, pigeons raised at home or on private farms cannot be viewed as dirty. 🕊️ It is not like the pigeons that are in the streets and raised on droppings. Although they are selective, they only eat grains. But they do not resemble each other. Pigeons in Egypt are raised on roofs, inside homes, and on their own farms. Therefore, their food is natural. Therefore, it is completely harmless... and I do not think it can be compared to a pig, for example, in terms of filth.🐷 Pork can be more dangerous than pigeon meat in terms of transmitting diseases if not cooked properly (such as trichina and salmonella). Pigeons may carry some health risks associated with their environment, but these risks are less significant than those associated with pigs if they are properly cooked. Shannon... The liver that we have comes from a calf slaughtered in Islamic slaughter... that is, all the bad blood came out of it...🐑🐔🐮 Therefore, the liver does not carry the same amount of bad blood as the liver that comes from an animal that died by suffocation or electrocution... because all the bad blood comes out with the slaughter. So you can eat it completely safely. Regarding pigeons, they have two types: they are stuffed with rice or grits (a type of wheat). But choose a better place next time. Greetings. ❤❤❤
Well, not all Egyptians eat pigeons, first bcoz it's not that tasty for all people, second bcoz it's an expensive meal! it's became famous bcoz it was one of king Farouk favorite meals! he was famous by eating a lot of that stuffed pigeons at a day! 😅
12:30 No, it's the best liver you'll find in Cairo, not in Egypt. The best liver you'll find in Egypt is actually in Alexandria. This sandwich is actually called Alexandrian liver sandwich. Btw just wondering, did you get the idea of stuffed pigeon from my comment on your previous video, or did you already have it in mind from somewhere/someone else? Also no, eating pigeon is not the same as eating a seagull. Seagulls are wild. These pigeons are domesticated for food and are clean, just like chicken. Not wild pigeons.. You just eat the pigeon with your hands, and 1 is definitely not enough, I always eat 2 or 3 minimum whenever I do. But did you even eat any of the pigeon, or just the rice inside? No wonder you didn't like it since you didn't eat the pigeon at all. You're supposed to eat the pigeon and rice together in the same bite, with your hands. Now that you said it has a similar flavour, I wanna try haggis lol, since stuffed pigeon is my all time favourite food ever. I guess acquired taste. First, in Egypt, we do not eat pigeons in the street, but we raise them in a place called a pigeon house, and we are the ones who feed them a specific food, just like raising completely clean chickens. Second, you did not eat it in the right way, as there is meat in the chest. 😭😭 The best part about the pigeon is its meat. You only ate the rice😂

It seems you are not a food fan; it is not your specialty :D Egyptian Pigeons isn't like the wild pigeons in the streets :D it is very young and it eats beans and corn only...There are many kinds of pigeons are not suitable as food; the one here is called "Zaghlol" and the only kind we eat. Pigeon breast the only part with proper piece of meat and it has red meat which it tastes like sweet duck meat... Egyptian food culture is very old and rich in flavors because it is influenced by a mix of rich various food cultures: 1- Mediterranean; 2- Egyptian; 3- African; 4- Arabian; and even the 5- Indian and includes a lot (Greek/Italian/Turkish/Arabian Levantine/Arabian Sahara/Egyptian/Nubian African). I am sorry to say that the English kitchen is not very rich like this, so many flavors you can't understand or imagine except if you were very open and foodie. Enjoy your trip
Many people don't understand that British people don't eat typically British food, we have probably the most varied diet out of any country, along with the Americans ☺ Most Brits will eat 7 different cuisines across 7 days of the week
you should have asked for help in eating the pigeon because you didn't know how to eat it, bro you should have gone to the bones of it and take the meat that around it and this piece full of not rice BTW, it is called (frick) in arabic, it is a wheat grains you should eat the skin and the frick in this piece. it is very delieious.

What about peaceful chicken 😅
Who hurt you?
@Alan_and_Shannon very good.. It will be fun if you introduced some of these meals to your followers 💐
you should have asked for help in eating the pigeon because you didn't know how to eat it, bro you should have gone to the bones of it and take the meat that around it and this piece full of not rice BTW, it is called (frick) in arabic, it is a wheat grains you should eat the skin and the frick in this piece. it is very delieious.
