    Well I did it, I B&Q'd it with your help, so for once an ad telleth the truth :). I've self levelled the kitchen extension floor before the tiler comes on Wednesday. I watched both your videos, (2nd one several times) and I've done it, so you can teach an old dog new tricks, as I'm 70 next birthday and more than qualify as an old dog haha :). Now just praying gravity finishes what I started...

      This shouldn't be a problem. Please double check the installation instructions on the flooring you purchase 😊

    Do you need to leave an expansion gap at the walls? I've seen some people say you should leave around 3mm between the wall and floor.

    How does one determine the "required thickness" as you say to spread it to?

  • @tbugtreybob
    @tbugtreybob 5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    You need 2 people. Dump a whole bunch out, using 5 gallon buckets to mix in, and take a long (appropriate sized) straight edge or a very straight 2x4, with both grabbing the edge by either end and drag the leveler all the way across the room you have. SELF LEVELER DOES NOT SELF LEVEL. You have to work it. Theres some amazing things you can do with that stuff

    I have a concrete consrvatory that I believe to be fully set/cured since mid december last year. I am now ready to lay flooring. I believe its already level so can I just use water/spray to clean the dust then lay lino onto it or do I need to still do the steps in this part 2 video to level an already leveled floor?

    • @gowen8128
      @gowen8128 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ozzy Ozzy I would use self level still, it’s a smoother finish than concrete and will be a better finish for thin Lino

  • @pastrychef7527
    @pastrychef7527 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Tip -- check the level in to doorways first, as if these are very low, you may create threshold challenges if you raise these areas up (even though they may be level). Also, if you're going to lay carpet, ask about different thicknesses of underlay, as these are available and can alleviate any differences in height across thresholds (e.g. if you're butting-up to wood flooring).

    Should skirting boards not be removed prior to self leveling?

    • @andybrace4983
      @andybrace4983 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No pal

    • @andycapp8843
      @andycapp8843 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If tiling or laying laminate flooring etc., it is preferable to remove the skirting, this leaves a professional finish once new skirting is fitted.

    • @MikesDIY
      @MikesDIY 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Only if you want to do it right. That was definitely a big mistake. If they don’t remove it before putting down the flooring, it will be very hard to remove in the future and they’ll have to put down an additional piece of trim to cover the edges. They also got leveler on the baseboard (skirting boards). This was a poorly planned job.

    How do you ‘feather’ so the compound doesn’t go into adjacent rooms ? We only want to level one floor but it’s open plan so other floors are ‘connected’ to the kitchen

    What is the difference between concrete sealer and primer? My outdoor concrete slab is sealed with PaveCoat solvent based acrylic penetrating sealer. Can I apply self levelling compound on top of it?

    • @bandq
      @bandq  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, George. Thanks for your questions.
      The difference between a Sealer and a Primer: The sealer will protect the concrete slab from dust, dirt and staining but should also give an attractive finish.
      A primer can be used as a seal but is mainly used in preparation for a finishing product to go on top.
      Floor leveller options you could use: NX Floor Levelling Compound EAN: 5010921354835 or Sika Latex Ultra Floor Levelling Compound EAN: 5055047210726 both can be used for external floor levelling projects.
      Hope this helps!

      We've had self levelling compound down for the last 4 months as a top surface (covid-19 stopped the vinyl being laid on it). In high traffic areas it has become very slippery. Too late for you no doubt, but in case anyone else is looking!

    I don’t get how you tell if it’s level if your room slopes

    • @bandq
      @bandq  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Raymond! It depends on the severity of the slop. If its small slop the a self-levelling floor compound will even its self out. If it’s a significant slop you have to level it out the floor before you put the floor leveller on. Hope that helps!

    Hi can I use similar product up to 5mm thick in my bathroom which has a wooden floor? I want to have a vinyl flooring to make waterproof floor. Currently, it leaks sometimes through the wood and water gets to the ground floor ceiling. Do I need to seal the wooden floor first? Thanks for advice.
