Whether or not you might think that Christmas is over now, i think one of their best possible mashups is their new release, Pure Imagination / Christmastime is Here. Amazing! They did their very first mashup on the 2011 competition with a CeeLo Green / Kelly Clarkson song. The judges thought it was so seamlessly mashed that they dubbed it "CeeLo Clarkson, Kelly Green"
This video was filmed when Kirstie was on Broadway in Kinky Boots. She couldn't get away to film the video, so they all came to her to film the video! On mashups: while others have already mentioned the ones I would, Daft Punk is technically a mashup, since it drops back and forth between multiple songs several times, and the ending is totally a mashup of all of the songs at once!
They did a mashup of two songs by Swedish House Mafia--Save the World/Don't You Worry, and near the end of the Evolution of Ariana Grande, while Mitch is singing the lead with Thank U, Next, Kirstin is singing Honeymoon Avenue and Scott is singing No Tears Left to Cry. The most unexpected mashup is their collaboration with Tori Kelly, Winter Wonderland/Don't Worry, Be Happy. Who would have thought that Winter Wonderland needed a reggae beat?
For this particular mashup Kevin was messing around in his studio with this arrangement as solo looper but Scott was like, Nah, we doing this. But PYX have a more than a few great mashup, their lastest is a holiday one from the lastest christmas album, "Pure Imagination/Christmast Time Is Here"
Thanks for reacting to this! I've always loved those decrescendo-ed notes too. There are three ( Mitch, Kirstie and Scott) in the first set and 5 in the second set, so I'm assuming that Matt and Kevin are also joining in the second set. They're a variation on their bell tones??
Their transitions are so smooth, you'd swear it was one song - as it should have been written. :) I love the bell tones too....they add them every once in a while and it's just such an ear-candy moment when they do. Matt & Kevin shine in this one!

As much as I enjoyed your breakdown of the 3 principal singers, I can not believe you did not even mention the driving force behind this mashup. That is the percussion and base. I will probably get hate for this, but I feel you missed on this one.
Yeah! Did he miss that whole part because he thought only the end was a mashup when Matt and Kevin was holding down a whole different song behind the singers at times!
I'm not super familiar with the two original songs. I'm far more likely to miss subtle mashup Easter eggs in percussion and bass than I am in the main melody. I'm sure I'd pick up on it more after listening more to the original songs.

Actually, they did the mashup all through the song. However, the translations were so seamless that it did indeed sound like a single song.
