I took lessons with him when I did the Berklee Summer Performance Program in the Summer of 2010. I'd like to thank him again for teaching me sweep picking
@VoraciousBlood check out Joe's Stump's Reign of Terror (a great heavy-thrash and later power-heavy neoclassical band) and Holyhell - "symphonic metal" - nothing special, but some really tasty solos and easy-to-listen music
@TrollRaper69 that's subjective, if you see, theoretically all that he just do is fine, but if you said whit that he has not feeling wiht his compositions, is subjective because for you porbably doesn't transmit anything but for me, this is really expresive, giving to me the idea that even palying fast, this could be expresive... sorry my english if i have mistakes
@@wxyzxdll - Yngwie is a wicked blues player. If you get a chance checkout his version of Spanish Castle Magic and Red House. His vibrato and bending is top notch.
Oh yeah...Malmsteen is actually sloppy compared to Joe Stump. Mr. Stump is actually more technically proficient than YJM. Malmsteen is still bad ass....but he takes a back seat to Joe. Just a reality check. Hard pill to swallow? Not really....just turn your ears on. If you can't hear the difference in the two, then immediately run to the bathroom and give yourself a swirlie & come back for second listen. If that doesn't help, then repeat swirlie & go put your Favorite Flock of Seagulls song on cause it's a hopeless cause.
Biggest difference between these guys is about 50 million records, dozen Ferraris, having million copycats around the world trying to outdo in your own game and some serious identity crisis.
Maltfusion Glad you brought up the word copycat. Uli Jon Roth, James Byrd, Al DiMeola, Niccolo Paganini and likely some others I'm forgetting, were before YJM. YJM didn't invent shit. He's a copycat himself. Yngwie lies to people about things. I seen vid of him lying to a dying cancer patient here on YT. What a fucking turd. He is sloppy as all sin anymore...he stopped putting in the quality work it takes to play like he did when he was young & hungry. Stump however is a teacher and from what I've heard a nice guy. From what I've seen....technique and musical sensibility, superior to modern day version of YJM. BTW Stump is an original too, not a clone. Also, most of the clones were signed & promoted by Mr. Mike Varney, YJM needed to take the balls off his chin, put them back in his pants where they belong, and go check his boy Mikey V.
Uba Tooba You have any idea what the first Rising Force album from 1984 did to the guitar community? Before that there was mainly blues based hard rock but that album changed everything because it wasn't just harmonic minor and diminished runs here and there but because the arrangements and counterpoints were actually proper classical music and the intensity was unheard of and frankly still is. You don't have to like him or his music but if you are seriously gonna deny his impact on the history of guitar or his skills I'm sorry but you just don't have the chips to do it.
Uba Tooba "You can't deny Stump either" well point me the part where I said that. And when I said chips I really meant that there are maybe three guys in the world who would have some credibility to critique The Maestro but they all happen to be fans and are influenced by him (Gilbert, Petrucci, Stump).
@RingOfRae tha fuck you talking about? what do you think is going on smack dab in the middle of the video at 1:34- roughly 2mins, phrasing is a word that gets tossed around in music in a lot of incorrect ways so it's not your fault if you don't understand, just don't try to evaluate something then post comments about it if you don't grasp the concept yourself
The interesting thing is that both Vinnie Moore and Tony MacAlpine were able to play in this style without sounding at all like Yngwie. Great playing, but the average person is going to think "Yngwie is playing this" as opposed to anyone else.
@RingOfRae As I can see by your videos, your playing is awesome so you know what you're talking about. Come on, anyone who has at least moderate knowledge of the instrument and loves to play surely wouldn't litter the world with such stupidity. Love him or hate him, but the man can play!
I wonder what went on in his mind as he decided to do exactly the same thing as Yngwie. Great playing, but it's already been done, and done better none the less.
Maybe this guy plays faster and cleaner than YJM... but he's no musical. I mean, I've heard Joe since he came out and have never found him to be musical at all. Right now I've just listened to almost three minutes of flawless excercises... and nothing more. Music ain't no endless runs and arpeggios. Impressing? Of course. Musical? None at all.
yonathan valensia yngwie imitator?...heh yep yep, this guy is like from another planet compared to yngwie, so incredibly clean playing yet musical and inspirational.Anyone who plays a lot guitar...and has a brain can tell that this playing right here is almost the most extreme what anyone can do with the instrument.Yngwie would dream to play this well, so would you...a bit jealous here aren't you?😉
Huge mits, insane control, and a seemingly robotic sense of timing!!! ALL HAIL
Amazing technique, simply flawless!!!....gotta love Joe.
Every now and then I return to this video and get goosebumps every time!!
From 2:03 to 06 Joe's fingers look like something out of the Matrix. Completely sick....and an inspiration to us all. Thank you Mr. Stump!

joe stump no lo conosia gracias a fernando por pasarlo este señor es grandejaja.
Stumptfying!
holy fuck!!!!!
Yngwie will always be the king, but Joe Stump is still amazing!
Joe understands the blues and it features in his playing a lot, but Yngwie seems quite uncomfortable with it and has never been a great blues player.
