I think you could wear a thin turtle neck under that dress you're making and wear it in the fall with some chunky tights and boots!! :+) Love your jumpsuit-and yes(!! )... take in the dress, the fabric is gorgeous!! Also, you could take in the sleeves so they are not flutter sleeves, and also you could make the dress a midi-it will still be long. If you had any fabric left over, you could just make an entirely different sleeve or top-or just take those off, and cut out a different top and sleeve altogether, using what you have already... I trust your run will go well!! :+)
Love the makes and good luck with the run. You can do it! Exciting news about the frocktails but it is unfortunate for me that it is before the ferries start from Roscoff otherwise i’d have come over for the weekend!
Woo hoo… I’m here in Perth Western Australia. We have a fantastic Frocktails in November… it is so much fun and as you say, meeting up with like minded sewers .. just be absolute best! Enjoy the planning… 🇦🇺
Oo lots of exciting things! Hope the weather is helpful for your run! My friend just did a similar event up here with her whole family running! Your frocktails will be fabulous too ! I had a fail with the Magnolia when I put the flutter sleeves on. I just really didn't like it, felt very frumpy. Ended up giving it away and haven't tried the other versions since! Maybe this is my nudge coz I did lots of work to get the bodice fitting right! 😊
Beautiful makes Angela and love the jumpsuit you’re wearing! What a great idea - I’m up for a Plymouth frocktails for sure! Date in the diary! Would also love a monthly Plymouth Sewing Social group if anyone was up for that. Would anyone like to join me in creating one? Good luck with your run today 🤗
Aaahh that's so fantastic - it will be so lovely to see you 🥰 Plymouth Sewing Social Group Sounds great. There are some social days that take part at Make, but defiantly would be interested to hear about more if any are created 🥰 Thank you 🥰
I think your black print does look summery, well matched to the dress and… think of it as something to wear if you visit NYC! I love the Cuba Libre! I’ll bet it’s too big, do you have enough fabric to make a wide belt? I would try that first.
That sallie ❤❤❤ That’s a shame the Cuba Libra didn’t work out.. hopefully you can salvage! That is unbelievably exciting about Devon Frocktails !!! It will be an amazing event xx
Oh your frocktails event sounds AMAZING!!! Just wish it wasn’t the weekend before the Stitch Festival (which we’ve already booked). Just can’t do two weekends away back to back. Gutted! Can’t wait to see everyone’s photos though! Good luck xxx
Great vlog, love your Sallie jumpsuit, I’ve been thinking about this pattern for a while. Such a shame about your Cuba Libre dress, perhaps the idea of a skirt would be best. I’ve also had a fail this week, I made a top and skirt hoping they would work as a co-ord then seperates, but it doesn’t look the same as the vision in my head, it’s so frustrating isn’t it.
I love the Davenport’s it’s Beautiful. I made mine a midi. I also made it as a top and that’s great too. Actually made two dresses and wore one to a wedding
Loved your little catch up and you’re looking fabulous in your Sallie! Good luck for tomorrow you crazy lady. You’ll smash it I’m sure. I’m looking forward to the Devon frocktails 💃👗xx
Ooh! That sounds like a fun event, never heard of Frocktails before. Unfortunately I won't be in Plymouth next March but I'll be there next month. Any recommendations for sewing shops welcome! I've just finished my first Lotta dress and I'm really pleased with it.
Aaahh that's a shame - but exciting that you are coming to visit next month. We only have a few. The best one in Make Fabric Boutique on Royal William yard. The is also a shop in the Barbican called Barbican Fabrics, and the there is a haberdashery in the city centre called Haberdashery Fabrics and more. I hope you have a lovely visit. Thank you 🥰
Well Angela. You’re full of surprises. You are so bubbly. Good luck with your challenge tomorrow. You are also very brave. Your Frocktails news is lovely and I will certainly think about it but I live near London and it will depend on my friend being willing to come. Your makes look lovely. Try that dress again with hair makeup and shoes before you ditch it. It might be a very small thing. That’s why I’m often cautious of new patterns🤨Perhaps, like me you’re too critical. 🤭
Congratulations on the London marathon, I had applied but didn’t get a place. Your run this weekend sounds lots of fun, enjoy and have fun. Your frocktails in Plymouth sounds lots of fun too. I agree with you dress, maybe the fabric colour rather than style. I could see the pattern in a lush black as a party dress rather than a summer dress. This weekend I am sewing a field of dreams eyespot summer dress.
Devon Frocktails!! Yeehaw! So excited to have something finally happening down our end of the world 🎉🎉 It’s very firmly in the calendar!! Love your Sallie jumpsuit. Another one for my (loooong) list! I also have the same fabric as your MF dress from Exeter Fabrics, I saw it when they had their 20% off weekend and couldn’t resist but no idea what to make with it.
Angela good luck with Hope 24, I’m sure you’ll do amazing. Met you there last year when my husband was running, we have a family wedding this year but I’ll track your progress. Frocktails 🎉 thank you from a Devon girl can’t wait xx
👏👏👏👏👏👏to Plymouth Frocktails🎉 so excited all ready. I had tickets to the one Lizzy was planning when the pandemic hit. If you need any help with it just let me know! Love your jumpsuit and the dress, but yes you need to feel happy in it 😊
Ooh, Plymouth Frocktails sounds amazing! I’m in South Wales so it’s definitely a possability…….and it’s not a school night🎉 I often find events don’t fit in with my school working week, so a Saturday is great. Wishing you all the best with it.
YAY!! Frocktails around my birthday…I’ll be there 🙋🏼♀️💃❤️ Look forward to seeing your Davenport dress, fabric is lovely and love the jumpsuit you’re wearing xx
Have a fab weekend running I’m sure you will achieve your goal. Beautiful makes and I would love to attend Plymouth frocktails - Long way for me but let me plan xx
Love your jumpsuit 😊 it looks fab 😊 good luck with your marathon! And exciting news in setting up a frocktails in your area it's brill to see the sewing community spreading all over the UK 😊 love your bright pink nail polish as well, could I ask you what brand and colour it is please ❤️
Aaahh thank you so much - we are really excited about it ❤️ Aaahh thank you - I go and get my nails done - but she uses Blue Sky - I am unsure of the colour, I am so sorry! Thank you 🥰
Loved your video Angela. Good luck with your Hope run it sounds fantastic. I was thinking with the dress the fabric is lovely but would look fabulous in a more statement fabric as the details of the dress especially the back is lovely. I'd go for a more vibrant fabric or I'd be inclined to make it in black or red for an evening dress.
Your Davenport dress is lovely and I think it’s great for summer. The Cuba Libre is beautiful, but looks a few sizes too large. Good luck with the run this weekend. I’ll be cheering you on from Florida.
Loving the Davenport so far. I made mine out of a Think Pink box fabric but didn’t like the dress on me. I struggled with the sizing and should have made a smaller size. Exactly how you described your feelings about the Maison Fauve Cuba Libre. Gorgeous jumpsuit- looks so comfy. You look so happy and healthy your enthusiasm is infectious and great to see. Good Luck with your running and as for Frocktails- wonderful , wonderful news!! I am sure it will be a great success and we will hear more about it. 😊 Happy Sewing. Lynne
Your Sallie is gorgeous and the Frocktails event sounds fabulous. Those sorts of events don't happen near here in North Norfolk, either. Plymouth is a long way from here, but I am definitely interested. Not having seen the dress on you, I would guess it's simply too large if you made the size 42. Yes, I've had similar results and disappointments. We get over them and sew on :-)
You've been on a roll Angela. Lovely makes and good luck for your run. I think the maison fauve dress... maybe it's just too big? Great news for your south west frocktails!
While out and about this summer, my husband often comments at the amount of women we see wearing black clothes. I personally never wear black, we have 2 white dogs, and a white cat, sometime white and black just doesn't work.Too bad i don't live near you, replacing zippers is one of the many alterations i do in my little home sewing business. At one time i made a lot of bridesmaid's dresses and grad dresses. Now it's mostly alterations of those kinds of dresses, and lots of shortening of slacks/ jeans, and zipper replacement. Way back in the late 70's I had white jeans with those rainbow pockets. I remember wearing them to a KISS concert😊. I think just removing the bodice from the blue dress and wearing the bottom as a skirt would be lovely. I'd love to cross the pond just to attend Plymouth Frocktails, but not in the budget. Camping, no, running, no, but walking on a trail sounds lovey. Enjoy your run. I just read in my local paper that my former home ec teacher, and her husband, a former physical education teacher, are setting records for track and field running at senior games. They are both in their 80's. I was actually talking to them last week and they are both slim and trim and don't look anywhere near their age. So keep on ruuning! I will stick to my fast walking.
You are absolutely flying with enthusiasm! How fun! I’m anxious to see you wearing the blue dress as it looks interesting. Good thing you are not working at an outside job cuz you’ll be very busy from now to March 2025! Surely all your UK sewing friends will love to participate!
Hi Angela! I just finished my first Cuba Libre dress too. I think you made yours too big. Maison Fauve doesn't usually include a lot of ease in their patterns so go by the finished garments sizes and the pictures of how to measure your various parts of body for the bodice. It really helped me. We have the same measurements except for the height. I made the 38 bodice and the 36 skirt. I probably will make the straight 36 next time. The gathering in the front bodice should be barely perceptible, and the skirt is a flat front. The gathers in the back because of the elastic, should stretch out nicely. Hope this helps!
I had the dress drama with the SH7 Sauvie sundress. It was just not right so cut off the top and made it a tiered skirt. It happens. We're too hard on ourselves when it's not right 😊
Would waist ties cinch it in a little? If you are not sure about the open back, you could add some sort of sheer panel to it-maybe lace or voile. I am new to garment sewing, so forgive me if it sounds bonkers!
I also am making the Davenport. I am currently adjusting the pattern and choosing a size. I am concerned that the neckline is too high for me, what do you think about the neckline? I may scoop it out and out in longer elastic so I don’t feel choked. I have made items that I don’t enjoy wearing, but also I have made things that are surprisingly my favorite. The wilder gown is one that I didn’t think I’d like but I love it! The neckline doesn’t bother me being tied up. But a shirt dress isn’t my preference anymore because of the collar. I think it’s nice to try new things. I also use inexpensive fabric as a first make. I don’t make toiles if I can avoid it. Congrats on your fun event!
Hia - when I was making it - I was worried that the neckline would be too hight too - but now it is finished, it feels fine, and I don't think I will need to scoop it out next time, but I think doing that would be very easy - if you found it didn't feel quite right 😊 Ooooh I like the Wilder gown too - it's lovely. Thank you 🥰
Lovely to hear about your sews and exciting plans. Interestingly when you were holding the blue dress up it seemed to swamp you, big sleeves, large neck opening and gathered waist. Thinking about some of the clothes you have made it would seem to be the wrong size. Hope you can resolve it. I’m glad you mentioned the quality of the £1 metre dress fabric, sometimes it does pay to spend a bit more but will be ideal as a toil. As for it not being a summer dress, just as well I say as we have no summer to wear it lol. Hope you get the jeans sorted, might not be as onerous for someone who does it all the time. Happy Sewing and good luck next weekend ❤
Aahh thank you - yes I think it’s just not quite right!! I agree defo worth spending more on fabric but great as a toile for sure! Ha ha - where is that sunshine ☀️ 😂😂 Thank you 🥰❤️
Love the jumpsuit its gorgeous, I wonder if its the flutter sleeves that ant right in your dress, sometimes the pattern is just not right for us so sad xx
I made the Tilly and the Buttons Lyra as everyone was making it but its just doesn’t suit me…. Don’t know why but i feel really frumpy😢 no one else looks frumpy in there’s just me 😂. Loving your jumpsuit though x
I think Maison Fauve patterns come out very big, I made the Tilda blouse and it came out massive. I don’t know if I get the translations in sizing wrong.? Maybe but I’ve got a lot of Maison Fauve patterns and a bit scared about making another one
Yes, your dress should be made with a different fabric, maybe with a medium sized pattern, something a little bit bolder. Enjoying your videos very much.
I've been thinking of making the Cuba libre too but the sleeves are holding me off. I think they don't fit the style of the dress. Maybe that's what's not right with it? I love your fabric and in theory it should look stunning on you.

Yes black wouldn't work with your pets! That's a great idea! I love a lovely long walk too!!

Yes it's such a tricky one! Thankyou 😊😊!!
Good luck with the run!
Do you mind my asking where the blue and white fabric is from please?
Thank you so much ☺️
It was from Exeter Fabrics - hope that helps 🥰
When I have bought an expensive fabric, I put off cutting into it.
I'm the exact same!

Don't be hidebound by accepted"standards" of seasonal colours. If you like it, wear it :0)
Exactly right!!
