I have loved watching all your WIP's and youve made me feel a lot better about having them too. However I think I might have twice as many!! I'll make sure to do a video in the autumn so you can see mine! Good luck and I think your plan to make a WIP after a project is a great one. You got this wonderful lady ❤

IDEA!! You're WIPs that you are getting rid of, offer them as a complete project bag, with remnants on a destash. Charge or just have postage covered. I'm sure they would fly out ❤

Hi Angela. I’m team complete as you go. I’d be unable to do what you do. It would really stress me out. Thank goodness we’re all unique. I love your slip dress and Penny. The bra is amazing. What’s the worst that can happen. If you give it a go? Be brave! I think you know what you want to repair, finish etc. Get rid of what gets you down or you don’t like. Life’s too short! I loved your video. It was fun. Anne 😊

Let's be honest as sewers.... friends only ask us to do alterations for them as they get them done free 😱 i sometimes feel like saying "ive closed my alterations business as i wasnt making any money" but that sounds mean, doesn't it??!! But after one week where i worked out I'd sewed for FOURTEEN HOURS for other people so they could save money i was ready to cry 😢 i would love to have the nerve to say "yes ill shorten your dress if youll do one hour weeding my garden" .... bet that would shock them! Sorry Angela rant over!!!!!!!! But i totally get where youre coming from!!!

    HI:
Well, firstly you do not have that many UFO's!! I would get rid of the shirt that you took apart- I have so many things like that in my piles-that I know I won't ever complete!! Otherwise I think everything else is probably in the correct pile... don't know if your charity shops carry fabrics and accept things like that where you are, but here they do-and anything that goes unsold gets recycled!! (just a thought for some of the things).
It's funny I am watching this today, as our great grandson is coming over this afternoon to help me sort things-tomorrow as well, and two days next week. So keep your fingers crossed that I actually can part with some of my stash-I thought about "Destashify" but I don't want to get into packing and shipping things!
    Best wishes-and I hope you persevere! :+)

Fantastic to see you tackling WiPs. Like a load lifted? I came back to sewing when I retired after a 37 year break and I did make it plain to everyone that I only sew for me. I do not want the stress of risking anyone else’s fabric or clothes- I sew for pleasure. Everyone accepted that so I only rarely get asked. I love the shape of the Norma blouse but you have to feel comfy. Worth finishing and if you won’t wear it someone will!! Good Luck with your pile. So i think I will follow your plan, sew a project, sew a wip. One thing I've tried to do is cut out a few projects, then sew them up. I think your WIPs pile is quite modest. I look forward to seeing all your WIP completions over the coming months. :-) I have a fair few WIPS, some I will never finish, and one garment cut out and ready to sew, plus another pattern ready to cut out. I have decided to complete one WIP every month. I did it this month, finishing a pair of trousers I started last year; they didn't work for me, I took them apart and recut them, then they sat there for a year. They are done now. I only have one item to repair, a pair of trousers my hubby took the knee out of and he gave them to me yesterday, so no guilt about those, yet. Some of my WIPs are big jobs, including two quilts to quilt and bind and one of those is 97.5" square. Another WIP is 2.5m of fabric to sandwich and quilt ready to make a large bag, then there is a large embroidery that went wrong, goodness knows what I will do with that, a mixed media project I got fed up with, that one will go, and a goldwork project that I will finish in the autumn; I must finish that as it was a gift from my daughter. I'm sure I forgotten several WIPs, but I know there's a dress toile that is a horrendous fit and in awful fabric. Enjoy your newly lightened load.

Do the shirt for John during Sew Frugal with 'found' fabric! The jumpsuit that doesn't fit and any of the other wips you aren't going to make, save them and take them to a sew meet up where you take fabric to trade, someone will snatch them up since 90% of the work is done!

I’m a one project at a time person and can’t start another until that one is finished and if it didn’t work then out it goes. However l have a mending or alterations pile which when l have a day to spare l tackle as many as possible. That gives me much pleasure. SewLuluRasc's idea is the same one I had! Where I live in the US, we also have a charity second-hand store but for craft items. Their profits go to a Hospice House in the area. Anything to do with sewing is very popular and are hard to keep in stock. So even if you don't get money back, you know the money they earn from it goes to a good charitable cause and not a landfill. And yes, I do have WIPs. Most of mine fall into 3 categories. Old clothes that are perfect for repurposing (but I never get around to), projects that have let me down and I've lost the desire to try and fit them properly, and repair jobs for my husband. He says his clothes go into my area and he then has to pay a ransom if he ever wants to see them again. Lol. You must absolutely finish the bra. You've done the hardest part! The straps and the back buckle are not hard. It's so pretty.

I never have more than two or three WIP’s. I tend to finish what I want to make, or take it apart and make something else. I did actually throw one out once. And I agree, friends will ask me to alter a men’s tailored huge jacket and say :”it just takes a few seams here and there and it’ll fit.” So I started to say no to ‘little favours’, and I feel a lot better now. I don’t know why people are saying Jeans Zoos are hard, I did many. I think the thought of it is worse than the sewing. I bet if you actually did it, you would do a great job 👍🏻

The McCalls shirt you make for him fits well, and it would probably be quicker and more satisfying to make a new one with lovely new fabric. You could line pockets or bags with the wip shirt. Be less of a headache I'm thinking. I absolutely love the jumpsuit you were wearing! You look gorgeous in it.

What a great video! I would get very stressed if I had a lot of WIPs (I have one dress that has been in the naughty corner a long time, and I need to deal with it soon.. :)), but I really admire people who can do what you just did: deciding to let go of projects that you know will not be finished. I don't think I could muster that kind of determination. I think it is a very sound plan to dinish one WIP after a finished project. Good luck! Please let us know how you get on.

I think as sewers we think we are mean saying no to friends, but really they are being mean to us by asking us to work for free. Next time someone asks, maybe you could tell them “you wouldn’t believe how many friends ask me to repair clothes, and I’ve decided to say no because I hate doing repairs/alterations and it makes me resent my friend which isn’t good is it”. Then tell the where the nearest high street repair business is. Any repairs you’ve got waiting to do, I’d be tempted to hand them back unfinished, simply say I’ve just not got round to your mending, I think it would be best if you take it to the alterations shop, as it’s never going to make it to the top of my mending pile.

I’d just get rid of the things you don’t love - they’re taunting you but once they’ve gone you’ll soon forget them. No point wasting time and emotional energy on something you’ll never wear and it’ll clog up your brain and your sewing space. Charity shops might be able to use them. Have you got a sewing buddy who could come round and sew with you? You could have a wips session or even sew each other’s? I’m hopeless at throwing things out, but got together with friends and we all made pouffes together to use up the scraps - it was really fun and very inexpensive as it was zero waste. … and we all love our pouffes 😅. Good luck and enjoy yourself ❤ xx

Just an idea for the shirt pattern. Could you use an existing shirt pattern ( cheap one from charity shop?) and then put your shirt fabric pieces on the paper pattern pieces and cut the paper to match the fabric pieces? Hope that makes sense - just thought it might be quicker than drawing all the pieces out on new paper.

Don’t throw the sew over it trousers that you love. Use the fabric to make facings and pocket bags on other projects so that you keep a little of that good feeling of your first successful pair of trousers in new garments. I’ve made the Norma blouse and it does feel a little low, but not too bad. You can add some front and back waist darts to take it in a little around the waist and you could wear it with a cami underneath. It’s a lovely blouse.
I have 2 WIPs and am currently working on one of them. I’d made it up into a skirt a couple of years ago which was badly drafted so as I had quite a large piece left I unpicked the first skirt reused as much as I could for another skirt which I am currently working on. Must say I feel a bit meh about it but shall see how I go. I’ve also got a half finished plain navy dress so shall get that done next.
I hate having WIPs hanging about and usually get each project done and finished before starting another but sometimes you start something and can tell it’s not going to be what you imagined.

As for the men's shirt, if you have a men's shirt pattern I would put the RTW shirt over the pattern and make the adjustments so half the work is already done and you have saved the alterations on paper for when you are ready to sew it. I probably wouldn't finish the Norma blouse, I've been there where I have to let it go even though I love the fabric and pattern but the fit doesn't work for me. Thanks for the video!

Great vlog and something I am doing at the moment is finish a WIP or using up left over fabric to make a cami or Ashton top and I’m loving getting down the pile and am going to encourage myself to not let them build up again. I think it’s a great idea for you to tackle one after you finish a project and don’t think you have that many as some of them are quick sews.
For me i think the Norma blouse won’t be a favourite in your wardrobe if you do finish it so might let that go. I would definitely finish the saltwater slip top, I am tempted to get that pattern myself now, thank you! Yes also to the Jessie. Coatigan but agree finish that in the autumn I think you will love it and I do have that pattern so might make it myself after seeing yours. Cobra Libra is a no for me 😊 re your bra, do you have Craftsy? As Alison Smith has a lovely class on lingerie and will help you finish that. It is so lovely and needs to be worn! I applaud you for your pile that you will ditch and agree with you. I think you will feel so much better when you see the pile reduce. Such a great conversation piece and I am definitely being more mindful about what I sew to make sure it doesn’t end up in a similar pile ❤

Do not get rid of the Norma blouse. Finish it and you might like it. It looks good like others say in the comments. With mending the unpicking takes all the boring time. before accepting the job, ask the recipient to do the unpicking first. Some of the mending won’t even come to you as they won’t even be bothered doing that. I don’t feel so bad now. I may have about 8 UFOs and 3 cut outs not started. I don’t count the cut outs.

My daughter in law, being bridesmaids for her brother’s new bride, asked me if I could take up her bridesmaid dress, 3 layers, in filmy fabric. I was freaking out as I don’t like sewing that kind of fabric, so I went to our local seamstress and got a quote! About $80 for each under skirt and $120 for top layer! So I rang her and said I can’t handle this fabric and I have a seamstress that will do it for you and quoted the price. She suddenly remembered that where they got the dresses will do but also charge, but half the price!

I have never cloned a RTW garment so I don't know the process but why would you transfer the pattern pieces of your husband's shirt on paper? If I understood correctly, you unpicked and marked all the pieces. I would iron them and file them with my patterns. When you find a nice fabric, all you need to do is use the fabric pattern pieces and you'll have a great present for your husband.
The Norma blouse: you could sew the back pleat closed, that will take a little volume off. As for the v in the front, it has always looked deep on other people too. It would look good with a little top underneath.
