- A detailed build of one of the best Tamiya race buggy kits of all time. Yes, it didn't win much but this is what a vintage buggy should look like. A long nose, sleek lines and massive shocks. If you read that differently, you need to wash your mind out!)
In this video, we take a detailed deep dive into all the steps required to build this exquisite vintage buggy.

I still have my original dynastorm from the 90's still in the box.. this kinda motivates me to build it !
100% build it, you will enjoy the experience. It is such a good looking buggy :) That or hold off until the end of 2025 and if we don't see a rere Dyna, then build it.
Yes😂
Damn, what a gorgeous looking buggy!
Tamiya, "I heard you like shocks... so we.... gave you some shocks...."
#shocking
Beautiful kit - can't wait to see it rip.
Great video 💯 I have nwver done a Tamiya build but really want to, maybe this winter, i know when i do one i will want more, they have so many awesome models!!!!
If you are looking for a lovely build experience, take a look at the Kyosho Turbo Optima or the Tamiya Avante. The Optima will drive much better but if it’s the build experience you are interested in, the Avante is also something special and extremely iconic
@@RCKickschannel I will definitely be building one of your recommendations, my local hobby shop has the Kyosho turbo optima not sure on the Avante, thanks for the great content 💯
Looks lovely, would love to build one of these. Come on Tamiya! Please re-release it! (and a special Pink Actopower motor too please, or maybe even do something like Kyosho and give us a nice pink brushless motor which pays homage to the Actopower but with the modern day efficiency)
A gem for sure ❤
Nice to see a Dyna Storm being built. Be great to see Tamiya putting these back out…perhaps 2025???
I bloody hope so as I really want to get one and keep it for myself.
@@RCKickschannel at least we have the Super Astute coming now Gav!
Love it. If only they would re re these things! Super Astute is nice to see for the end of the year but this would be proper awesome!!! Great Vid Gav!
Yep, Tamiya could drop some bombs in 2025 for the anniversary year like the King Cab, 959, Dyna and Falcon to name a few that would fly off the shelves and make a killing, but we all know by now Tamiya will do something completely random lol
@@RCKickschannel yup they will do something I don't care to get, but a dyna storm or a falcon I don't care what the price I will get one lol.
I so love this, love taking mine out racing, its one kit that needs very little. The front bulkhead is one part that can break, but you can go overkill upgrading it to race, i did just that 😂
Fingers crossed for a rere in 2025 but not sure we will see one.
@@RCKickschannel yeah, i fear we wont see it, the super astute is good to see but its not a great car out the box to run. TAMIYA, guve us the Dyna storm, please 😁
Epic build, Gav 👏👍 Totally agree on the electric screwdriver, should be (mildly) used on modern build with hex hardware, not sure it's good on Tamiya self taping JIS screws. Can't wait to see the finished product 👀🤝
Fantastic kit , the Dyna Blaster is my favorite.
Great build love the look of that kit
Nice build so far Gav. Very much a buggy design of its time methinks. When I got back into the hobby I was looking at these, they came out while I was away, but even in 2006/7 they were pricey.
Great looking build 😊
I have one, needs only to be restored. Bought a lot of new parts, used shocks and all. Still missing new body, and those fragile lower arm mounts, front and rear.
Nice one Gav. Where did you find that. I found a bloke in Denmark who 3d prints really strong replacement parts for these cars
It was on eBay but an expensive one at £900!
the shock liner is kinna overkill. so they dont do that often
Is this kit related to or similar to the Super Astute in anyway?
Part of the same Astute family. The Dyna Storm was the last kit in the family.
Heathen😘😊
LOL
How much after upgrade for racing
Well a NIB kit is around £900-£1000. A built good one is £650 and a well used £400. I would expect around £200 on upgrades as a rough idea.
Not much chance of a rere for the Dyna Storm when the Super Astute is coming at the end of the year.
I don't know if it changes anything for the Dyrna, the Super Astute is just a reissue as we have seen it before in 2019 so not that long ago. I guess how it sells could influence Tamiya on the viability of rereleasing the Dyna I guess, but we all know Tamiya just does whatever random thing it likes so who knows what we will get. I just hope Tamiya product manages actually stop, look at the global fans comments and see the big trends on what everyone is asking for vintage rereleases.
🎉
Did they re-re this? I’m just now watching
Yes, but in 2001.
This kit was from 2001
Slipper collet around the wrong way 😂
Yep well spotted, the outside one is around the wrong way. It's funny that the two face in the same direction. Fixed now :)
@@RCKickschannel i imagine it helps keep the spring aligned.
I always thought they were called “c” clips?
I believe C clips are literally a C shaped piece of spring steel wire, that fully locate in the groove, with minimal locating area. These in the vid are E clips, shaped more like an "E" & provide more surface area to the thing you want to retain 😬
Lovely buggy but looks very fragile out of the box, funny engineering/conception choices
I just wish Tamiya would use hex hardware
@@traxxasfans I recently built the Avante where I swapped most screws with stainless torx. Such a joy to use those, even more than hex screws.
you should use official tamiya screwdrivers they are a lot better
That was a Tamiya screwdriver :)
@@RCKickschannel oops my bad sorry different to mine I use
Coming together really nicely Gavin 👍 can't wait to see it finished. Are you staying box art? A lot different from other mid to late 1980's Tamiya kits such as The Fox and Super Shot and Hot Shot and Top Force which were top pinnacle Tamiya race buggies back in those days. I have actually got an Egress Black edition and an Avante Black edition rerelease both unbuilt new in box with traditional style blister packaging and I actually cannot bring myself to building them both. Looks great Gavin 👌
I have a built one and a nib one bought them togheter for 250 euro 15/20 years ago
Sorry Gav I posted my comment before watching right through to the end when you confirm your painting this box art. Doh I feel like such a dufus 🤣
I can't say I like the box art colours myself as its a little on the safe side. As its a shelf queen example you kind of have to do the original body box art but a rere body painted in something a little more exciting colours would be the way to go for sure.
