I think you are completely misunderstanding LEGO. Their RC stuff can be amazing, check out the huge crane! They are designed for kids to run indoors. You are paying for the building experience.
We are adults who love LEGO and RC cars, but Tamiya will never be LEGO and vice versa.

I need to interviene here, Lego is perhaps 'the' best toy of all time, and evaluating a Tamiya RC car against a Technic kit, while a great idea and makes a fun video, wasn't ever going to result in anything other than a drubbing for Lego. It is a great intro to RC cars and building kits for young kids. And a fun toy even for adults. But as for a comparison, try building a Tamiya car into a space ship, then a plane, then a lorry, then a boat, and I suspect the Lego would win out. Not having a go, I love your content, don't ever stop. I'm a die hard lego and rc fan 😂

I have seen a few people comment along the same kind of lines and yes, on the surface it sounds logical until you stop and think about it. These kits have a large number of dedicated design parts and this kit can’t actually be built into a space ship, bike or whatever. Lego kits like this have evolved into a build one thing design. Sure you can take all the inside little bits out and sling them in a large box with another ten plus other kits and you then might have the opportunity to build other things. Also, like I commented in the video, the “car” build experience was rubbish as 90% of it was just building the internal structure that has zero resemblance to an actual car. Now this isn’t LEGO issue, it’s a design issue as my other Lego car is way better in this area. I’m not sure how many people actually watched to the end to see me talk about that aspect. To top it off it didn’t look good and the performance was way below expectations even for a Lego RC car. It was on par with the most basic cheap RC toy grade car. I think Lego could have done a much better job for sure.

    • @007-z4p
      @007-z4p หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@RCKickschannel I think the title 'Worst RC Car Ever' is perhaps the reason so many people have commented. I don't disagree with your review, I just don't think anyone who knows Lego would have expected it to come within a 1000 miles of a real RC car. So defo helpful for those unfamiliar with Lego. Lego is really about many things, not least using your imagination to create alternate builds, usually in combination with your existing Lego collection, and as an adult, trying to improve on the kits design. I do agree it is a shame that in recent years the kits tend to lend themselves to a narrower range of outcomes. I think my child like brain could however still very much fashion this kits 800 plus parts into any number of interesting toys. If it feels like you have touched a nerve, at risk of stating the obvious, Lego was and still is so many peoples beloved childhood toy, giving it a poor review relative to a 'real' RC car might always have proved a little controversial. Your new mission sir, should you choose to accept it, is to build a Lego Car that 'does' perform like say a 'Tamiya Grasshopper'. If successful, perhaps Lego will adopt your design ? 🙂 but good luck, as many of us Lego (and RC car) fans have been trying to build a decent RC car out of Lego for flipping decades !

I was lucky enough to get a Lego 8860 for christmas back in 1980, lots of working parts, moving pistons, reclining seats, working 3 speed gearbox, a differential, rear suspension, steering. Mostly from relatively standard lego technic parts. This new thing is a huge step backwards. I feel a "diy RC 8860" project coming on.

Damn, I can see myself on ebay today trying to relive my youth !!! I think the fact that the car Gav is reviewing here so well fails because its an all in one core unit with a bunch of custom parts specifically for lego car kits. I learnt so much about using standard parts to create complicated mechanics, all via lego. They do an offroad RC buggy too now, at least it actually looks fast and quite usable. Kit 42124

I agree with most of the comments, Lego is a completely different ball game. It was fun for us AFOLs to watch. 😂 Too slow? Vintage motors, BuWizz, and Gearing can get Lego cars to go so fast parts break in a crash. I build vehicle MOCs, mostly off-road expedition vehicles, but also tracked racers.
By the way, all those unmotivated different colours in the 'chassis' we call colour vomit.

You’re comming at it, from the completely wrong angle.
LEGO does not advetice it as an RC car, but as a Technic model, which just happens to move.
Look at it as a LEGO kit which has been fitted with a small motor, not as a full blown RC, which just happens to be made from LEGO!
-do not review it, as you would with a Tamiya kit.
This is for fans of LEGO, not someone trying to get into RC.

Thanks for your review of this one. Legos are definitely a totally different animal, and I've never felt they're good for a hobbyist who's into RC and wanting to remote control one. But for a child who wants to try to blend or bridge the two, they're not usually a bad choice. I've always loved my Legos, and am looking forward to Christmas this year, when I should be getting the Formula One that you wanted to build. I'd say go on and do it, I don't think you'll regret the experience if you're doing it just for the fun of it and not comparing it to an RC model.

The fun of the build was extremely lacking, that’s one of the aspects that disappointed me the most. That and along with the final car look was weak at best, so it failed in my eyes as a model. With those two big negative aspects along with it being beyond terrible and equivalent to a £20.00 ultra basic RC performance, unfortunately I see no upside to this Lego product. I had hoped it could be a first step into RC for someone introducing the build and run experience to a 8-10 year old child but it didn’t tick any box that a super simple Tamiya Lunchbox couldn’t. If anything it showed me just how good a basic RC build experience is vs something like this.

As far as the design goes...Porsche obviously liked it or they wouldn't have put their name on it.
Not fast enough? Rebuild it with some real rc parts. Show us how Lego should have done it...😜

There is only 1 Lego RC car that is (a bit) faster. All the others are way slower. But since it's Lego, you can modify the rally car your son has and add motors. If you get a Buwizz, it will even be 'fast'. But keep in mind, there's no bearings, so they are not really meant to be driven a lot. And you would have been really disappointed with the F1 car, I certainly was.

Way too harsh. Like others have commented, this was never designed to compete with hobby grade RC cars. However, as a fan of both, I wouldn't recommend this either if you want an RC car. But if you want a motorized Technic set, then sure. And the build experience isn't supposed to be comparable to a Tamiya kit or any other RC manufacturer. It's consistent w/ Lego Technic which has a huge loyal following. That's why they can charge such extreme prices. And no, it really doesn't need to go much faster, but if you want to make it faster you can. I've put hobby grade electronics in some of my Technic builds. Was fun, but didn't end well. And the folks at BuWizz do this all the time. Check them out, but still don't expect anything close to hobby grade.

There are some Lego motors that are quite fast that run with mind storm robotic legos. Motors are much better. NO False high-speed claims it's fkn Lego. Keep this up and you may as well review barbies RC car or an RC Christmas train set.

Now let's see your rc cars disassembled to many pieces and be used to make into something totally different to whatever you want like a mech, a spaceship or whatever you want it to be. It's a brick that runs. Let's see some rc's that runs fast becomes many bricks for other builds. :-) Good advice though not to buy these if you're into real rc's.

Sounds like you coming at this from to much of an RC angle. It’s just a Lego build that moves basically. But I enjoyed watching nonetheless 👍

Lefo will never go fast as if you crash it more than 3mph you will be there for hours rebuilding it. I habe many model's, these are my only shelf queesn not my RC cars.

An rc car it is with most 1/10 cars. The chassis is a flat piece of plastic with holes in it😅 it's not a toy

Its lego, you build it and put it on a shelf. As to you saying it will brake if you were to hit something with it going a bit faster, that is wrong, lego never brakes, parts just fall of. ;)

Sorry, normally enjoy your videos but this is lego not an rc car that is made for driving round a track. No younger kid would have this as a stepping stone into rc. Comparing apples and oranges.

The car does look like a disappointing build! It is not even a driveable "model" by definition. There are no "model" details. Only the outer skin and stickers are the only parts that are modeled after the car it is supposed to resemble. To me , it looks like a bad version of a Nissan GT-R or a 3rd generation Mitsubishi Eclipse.
I am a huge Lego fan and some of their kits are awesome. This one is not one of the awesome ones....

You're trying to compare a toy with a model. You're always going to be disappointed. Lego is building for fun. Yeah it moves a little, but to be honest this is no intended for RC enthusiasts. Many of their other motorised models make a lot better use of motors than this.

Sorry but I have to say, you saying “don’t go near this” is ridiculous..your comparison between this Lego set and an actual rc kit like tamiya etc is equally ridiculous. Lego is a long standing brand that makes some amazing sets but it’s Lego you honestly can compare them. Very disappointed in your opinion and views.

Sorry to say but I think you totally missed the point of this video my friend. I was not talking about Lego as a whole, but just this single kit. Yes, some Lego builds are really good and engaging, this was not the case with this individual kit as the build experience was rubbish. I was not comparing this kit directly with a Tamiya RC, I was looking to see if this would make a good first step into RC before getting a dedicated RC kit like a Tamiya Lunchbox. I think the confusion is coming from my comment on how bad it was at the RC aspect and it performed like a £20 toy grade RC. Due to the bad build experience, rushish RC aspect and the overall look of the finished car, I don't think it would be a good fit for someone looking to get a younger child into RC. I personally feel you might as well just get a basic Lunchbox to start with, that's all.

Na, it looked a total mess. The back was OK but the sides, doors and front didn’t. So many better Lego kits of cars available. It wasn’t fun to build either, especially when compared to the other Lego car my Son built.

No, I’m pretty sure my experience with this Lego kit was a bad build experience, mixed with a finished car that looks nothing like what it was based on, twinned with a totally pointless RC aspect.
