Thanks for this, Rahdo! It looks really interesting. I'll check out the extended playthrough later. By the way, Zerubbabel's name is pronounced "ZEH-roo-buh-buhl", with the accent on the first. He was a descendant of the kings of Judah, and was appointed governor by the Persians. It was under his leadership that reconstruction of the temple began -- that's why he's themed red in this game. (My apologies if you know this stuff already.)
Personally I think Shem's games are moving into unnecessary levels of complication. I prefer some of his earlier games where there's less going on and the game is more teachable. I'm a big fan of the games and his themes, I just feel they're getting too heavy for me to be able to get a game on - solo vs AI is fine, but I want to table opposite someone.
that is a fair observation. things have ballooned considerably since raiders of north sea. so far they haven't crossed a line for me and jen and we are sensitive to such things, but i can see how they are too much for some folks! :)
I can see that. Viscounts with the expansions is a lot. It’s ok for me playing solo, but when the time comes for me to teach it, I’m not sure how to. It’s just so much stuff. I don’t dislike any of it, it’s just a lot.

Looks like Lisboa (though I haven't played that.)
