This looks great and I'd love to play this (since I'm a christian myself), but I'm afraid it's too heavy for my group. Will this come with a (good) solo mode?
There is definitely a solo mode. The only other game I've played from these designers is Wayfarers of the South Tigris and I really enjoy the solo mode in that. Their solo modes are generally highly praised. Slickerdrips is doing a full solo playthrough later today if you want to watch and see how it plays for yourself.
@@laurencesingh3948 Thank you! Good to hear. I do also have Wayfarers. The rulebook was a little intimidating, but I'll give it another try soon. I'll check the video of Slickerdrips, thanks.
@@sherlockhomeless7138 What helped me was watching the solo playthrough/teach by Totally Tabled. He's a very good teacher and watching that video helped my readthrough of the rules make more sense. Just a friendly recommendation. :) I think the solo mode for Wayfarers is a ton of fun and worth the initial time/energy investment.
Do you (btl as well as MvM) think that the heaviness is in the rules or the decisions? Or both? I'm intrigued, but like my games light in rules and heavy in decisions. Maybe I should be glad there are new Knizia games these days, and avoid new Garp?
I can tell you in this one, it is the decisions for sure. You'll find many turns where you have to double back because you thought you had the banners / resources, but it ends up you don't. The rules aren't hard, but there is a serious amount of planning in this (Ryan).
I feel like Garphill Games keep getting heavier and heavier and wish they would pull back a bit and go more towards Architects and Raiders weight wise. Since they keep getting heavier, the newer games are getting played less in my game group.
100%. We have both raiders, all the west with expansions and the south two that are released. We only get Scythia and the west games to the table. Not because of weight. Just better games. Maybe the turns are getting more complicated. Hard to say.
@@Jac0nz i have Raiders and Scythia. Scythia seems to make raiders a tad easier while still keeping the feel. I just rented Wayfarers from the Library and it seems incomprehensible upon first look. Now this. I agree that Garphill is getting too heavy.
Onwer of paladins and played tons of 2 player and solo. Played Ezra Nehemia solo only but can definitely say it is heavier than paladins. Tougher decisions for sure. Love both and the solo mode on both is FANTASTIC! Kanban, Tiletum and other similar solo mods i am not in favor of...
Got this at my flgs about two weeks ago. Tabled it today. Probably be on it for a month or so.

It's hard to not immediately think about world events in the area while looking at the theme of this game. So much tragedy.

Paladins and Viscounts are heavier than this. If not for the theme that does not interest me at all, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
