Interesting video topic! I’m surprised you hate gen 3 so much since I feel like it’s easily the best gen haha. I started with Blue but I got so bored with it due to its simplicity. I feel like gen 3 is when they made the mechanics complex enough to really hold my attention (plus the legendaries are my favorites). It was cool to hear you walk through the history of your Pokémon experiences. Seems very different from everyone else’s!
@@RewindArcade If you go far down enough, the mechanics are surprisingly complex even in R/B/Y (even if those are held together with string). I think the VERY polished, VERY overhauled presentation of the games starting with Ruby/Sapphire made a world of difference. I’m sure the influx of money Game Freak got helped a little bit… I think the small gap in “love” during the Hoenn era made such a huge difference, but I think it’s just magnified when it happens to be some people’s favorites (you, case in point). I can live without Torchic and Treecko, but take away Cyndaquil and Totodile and I’m throwing hands!
@@maximum.collecting I think we’ve had this conversation before, but with B/R/Y I had been playing RPGs for a decade at that point so the early Pokémon games really felt like a huge step back mechanically from stuff like Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasy series. I think there’s definitely a lot of cool little things happening behind the scenes (IVs, EVs, etc.) but the core gameplay was very simplistic compared to other RPGs at the time. That said, Pokémon’s concept was just so damn cool that I decided to give it another shot with gen 3. 👍
I’m really sad I was born so late compared to Pokémon releases. The first Pokémon game I got as my own was White 2😭 All the new Pokémon games now are so much easier now and it’s so sad 😭😭😭
