      Also, glycemic number plays a role too! High glycemic foods are horrible for weight loss! For diabetics, it easily spikes the blood glucose which in turn means alot of insulin is released to keep blood sugars normal. High insulin levels in circulation keeps a person fat and flares inflammation!

    We make Vegan Lobster to add to our Spring Rolls. Empty one can of Hearts of Palm. Cut into 1 inch chunks, press lightly, stir in 1 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning and 1 teaspoon Dulse flakes. Put into a Zip Lock bag. Squeeze out the air. Marinate in the fridge for 1 hour. Add to the Spring Rolls.

    We love you guys! Thanks for all the amazing comments. Today I show you had much food you can get for 400 calorie per meal if you build your meal around a starch and stuff it with non starchy veggies. These meals are prefect for Starch Solution and our Monthly 21 Day Starch challenges which started Sept 4th. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

      @@CharGC123 I completely agree! I would love to see more great videos that show the calories of meals. Everyone talks about caloric density, but no one actually likes to talk about calories for some reason. This video is just the type of content I need!❤

    • @CharGC123
      @CharGC123 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@broccolista Actually counting calories religiously is a real drag and very impractical, whereas caloric density is a more generalized framework. But you still need to know that general framework and most of all how many calories you actually need so you can determine how much to eat. I logged my food/caloric intake on Chronometer for a bit to determine this and though their estimate of my BMI says I can eat 1800 calories to maintain my weight that is FAR from accurate! More like 1200 and of course less to lose weight! 1,000 calories a day or less is pretty sparse and feels restrictive but....

    • @broccolista
      @broccolista ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CharGC123 Totally agree that counting calories is a total drag, and not something I want to do, but being oblivious to calories and believing other influencers that show enormous calorie-dense meals and thinking I can do the same just isn't working for me. Love seeing examples of meals that are both 1) High volume and 2) Low calorie. That is the holy grail! 🙂 I'll try logging my calories in Chronometer for a while just to get a baseline. What was the magic number of calories for you to lose weight?

    Did you include the calories for the sauce in the Brussels sprouts? One tablespoon of maple syrup is 52 calories, 18 for the soy sauce, another 14 for a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar….so that is another 84 calories for that meal. Haven’t seen your dinner yet, but wondering if you accounted for everything that actually went into your meal. I love 400 calorie meals! This is a great way to eat. You and I are the same age. I lost 92 pounds and have maintained it for the last 3 years within a 7-10 pound bounce as weight is always changing based on many factors. This is the BEST way to eat.

    Looks fabulous guys, I sometimes don’t do equal calories each meal. I find that I can do about 200 calories in the morning with the Costco frozen green beans and mixed vegetables with a hunk of tofu and some balsamic, sounds weird, but it’s good. I’m just not as hungry in the morning. I also do low salt cause I have high blood pressure too. Then I have about 600 calories for lunch which is my biggest meal of the day. I love how you said Hercules 3 times, from the nutty professor, I say that too. Good tip for you my friend, instead of pressing your tofu, try putting paper towel around the tofu and putting in the microwave for 2 minutes. Comes out perfect texture. If only using a few slices, just about 1 1\2 minutes. It’s a fabulous trick I got from Miwa’s Japanese cooking TH-cam video, it was how her mother makes her tofu.

    • @snu3877
      @snu3877 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So if you're using the entire block of tofu as in this tofu scramble recipe, would you microwave the block whole, or slice it first?

    • @hidden909
      @hidden909 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@snu3877 I’ve never microwaved it for a tofu scramble because I just crumble up the tofu and cook it with onions for a long time and that dries it out. But I might try it and let you know. It probably would cut back the cooking time. I make a lot of tofu sandwiches with sliced tofu, and microwaving it works good for that, sometimes I’ll throw the tofu slices in a nonstick pan after the microwave and brown them. It makes them even better to imitate sandwich meat texture.

    • @snu3877
      @snu3877 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I thought the microwaving was an alternate way to dry it out. @@hidden909

You know what they’re thinking and their schedule. Love it! So when you tried the wrap I was thinking about a spoon and then you said it lol. I always spoon the sauce in there too. I’m surprised it was 200 calories using the PB2. I will break it down as you and Tim have so I know I’ll be in better control. Nice work on this video! Thank you!

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is because the recipe calls for 3/4 cup of powder. So it adds up fast. It also has two TBSP of maple syrup in it and that is 100 calories right there. Of the 200 calories I portioned out for myself, I only ate a small part of that. So really, I had a lot less than 200 calories for the sauce. But it is SOOOO worth it. That sauce makes the whole meal.

    I tried calorie counting diets in the past. I was eating more of the standard American diet at the time, so I really didn't get that much food with it. My calorie counting app said I should be eating 1200-1500. I usually ate 1500 or more, and was still hungry at the end of the day. This is way more sustainable than how I was doing it. I also paid attention to the Canada food guide at the time, and wondered how I was supposed to eat the amount of food they recommended and not be over-weight.

    Hey mate - doctor here!
    I watched your last video and I had some thoughts. You definitely don’t look 60, you look like you’re in your 30s. So I suspect that low metabolism that worries you has kept you looking young because you are rusting more slowly. Have you had your thyroid function, including your thyroid antibodies checked? People with a slow metabolism within the range of normal do live longer, even if they’re a little bit plumper, because they are producing less oxygen free radicals and have lower impacts of metabolic activity.
    If your thyroid function needs a bit of a boost, because you’re below the range of normal, that’ll help with energy as well as weight.
    The other thing is, if you add muscle, you will definitely increase your metabolic rate.
    Also, science shows that we don’t really start to drop our basal metabolic rate until we are well into our 60s

    You should get a tofu press. Not expensive and totally worth it.

    I've never counted calories before, but after your last video I'm going to start, so it's great that you are giving us an idea of what a 400 calorie meal looks like.

    Those spring rolls may be the only way I can 'dilute' noodles with veggies and not feel deprived. They look amazing!

    I like yellow mustard from Costco. It’s organic and 3 ingredients only

    Hey Joey, This was another great video! I commented on your last video as a wfpb person who did not lose any substantial amount of weight using the "eat as much as you want" philosophy so prevalent in this community.
    I wanted to say, in doing recent research, protein has come up once again. I know we don't need piles of protein as plant-based eaters, that most every food contains protein, and no one ever ends up ill from lack of protein... however, it has come to the forefront with a number of the plant-based doctors when dealing with older adults (obviously, not Dr. McDougall). As we age and start losing muscle mass, it is recommended to increase protein intake (muscle loss really ramps up over age 60). I wanted to mention this to ask if you have come across this in your own recent research. You and Tim look great and probably want to hold onto the muscle mass you have... especially after that pest control guy's comment, lol! I would be interested in hearing your opinion on the subject.
    I have been watching my wfpb meal portions and am having great success, finally!! Always sending my best to you and your family!! ❤

    Great video! I use a hand held potato masher for my pressed tofu when making tofu scramble works like a charm and quick. I love that someone is addressing the elephant in the room with eating all you want.

    I apologize if you have mentioned this before but I'm trying to understand how to figure out my macros. I have tried different calculators and they are all different. I purchased the chronometer gold but not sure what macros to enter. Thank you for another great video! You guys are the best!

      I just enter the foods I eat and it shows me all the macros for those foods.
