Well, that is really bad, as this was the nail to the coffin for the attackers.
I was just thinking like did Pontus player walk away from his computer. He could've easily saved it. Great battle though from everyone just sucks he got disconnected.
Ya it definitely sucked to have some disconnect, but it was still crazy! Sure glad everyone enjoyed it!!

apparently Massilia is literally Marseille. as in, that french city.
@@Wolvenworks That's exactly it, it was founded around 600 bc, when the Greeks were sailing around the Mediterranean and establishing colonies everywhere.

Pierre dbss ya the Greeks established colonies along south eastern Spain all the way to just shy of Italy, then have settlements in the South of Italy (Magna Greacia as the romans called it means greater Greece) Syracuse was a Greece colony and one of the bread baskets of the world along with Egypt (though not as great of one) then of course Greece itself lol the Black Sea also saw a great deal of Greek settlement Odessa is the Ukrainian for Odysseus

Yeah man, this was one of the coolest and most action packed sieges I have ever seen. Great plays from all of the players, looked like the battle kept going back and forth as far as who was gaining the advantage. Those fire balls though, solid move

Massalia was the original name of the French City Marseille. It was a Greek speaking colony with settlers predominantly from Phocaea (an Ionian Greek City on the West Coast of modern day Turkey). It was set up roughly around 600 BCE, and for hundreds of years they intermingled with the Gallic tribes and formed a distinct community as an artery of trade between the Mediterranean and the rest of Gaul. Caesar eventually took over the city in 49 BCE and annexed it for Rome during Caesar's Civil War. I think it is one of the main reasons why Southern France has such a strong wine culture, for it was introduced hundreds of years before Rome even came out of Italy and contemporary sources said that Greece had the best wine :)

This was the second greatest battle I have ever seen from this channel. This should be on the trending page. It was really really good. I haven't seen such battle in a very long time. Great "CONTENT"! Loved it, definitely going to favorite this one. Such a great video! Good job!
@Steffen Bakken There is a video where Apollo goes in first person when a cavalry is charging in a city and the cavs goes through plenty of army to hit the archers and that was with Mr. Bunswick and the 3rd guy.. It's an old video, I don't remember the title, maybe Apollo remembers? But yea it was the craziest cav charge I have ever seen inside the walls, it just went through everything, zig-zaging it to get to the archers or something.
If the Puntus player kept their pikemen units and heavy infantry together at the end they would've had a chance to bring it back.
Can't wait for part 2 when we follow the surviving defenders and the crippling PTSD they have to deal with.
Apollo I've been on this channel for years and every time you seen to amaze me. I've always loved seige battles but nothing is better than your campaigns. I know some don't agree but they just make the long days enjoyable!
That was the best comeback I have seen! And every player did brilliantly. It wasn't as if they made some dumb mistake that cost them the battle. It was just out playing each other with higher stakes and bigger brain plays than the last every time. Excellent battle.
Could you please do some M2TW or some 1212 A.D.? I know you've been getting overloaded with Total War games but I think it would be nice to get back to M2TW have some nostalgia. On a side note: I tried Rome a couple of times but I like Egypt mostly.
actually, I like three kingdoms cause the cavalry charge, it feels real, you can see the impact between the horse and human but sadly, the fight between 2 unit sucks. in shogun2, when 2 unit in combat, i could see each soldier in that unit fight each other but in three kingdoms, they just swing their weapon in mid-air and the enemy drops dead like being hit by the force
I agree, finally a player of Rome who knows what he/she/it is doing. I found it strange to see the Roman factions always loosing in the other videos. And as always, i love this fun way you are commenting this on going battles. That's why you are Apollo, not Ares i guess.
At 40 minutes when pixie says "it looks over to me already how can they win" while I think of the main commentary he use for the 6 years I watch "Never give up till the last soldier, comback are always possible" - pixilated 2015-2020
Those cataphracts should've gone after the unprotected siege units on the other side of the river.
I’m liking the Rome 1 soundtrack being played over. Much more tense
In real life Romans shield (legionaries) are made of 3 layyers of wood, the metal in the middle is used to make more ease of use, normally they will charge a unit knock them down with the bottom of their shields then crouch and drop their shield so only half of their face can be seen, then they tried to stab their enemies from the side

I've never played or seen much videos on Total War games but you really got my addicted to Rome 2

All those god damn siege towers and infantry 12:00, never seen anything like it in all the videos I have seen from replays.
In barb setelment siegetowers never have balista's , this is a verry supprising siege, thanks to share this battle with us apollo. Just a insane change !

Andrija Živković normal/emperor edition wich are the same just emperor is the nog update and right now i don't think having emperor or normal changes anything.

one time i was playing this map as attacker in a 2 vs 2 and my roman ally tryed to climb that hill with all the infatry in testudo formation. The fire balls destroied all of them and we lost every possibility to win
Best balls of fire I've ever seen. Perfect position. There was another set of balls but I never saw them roll because PA wasn't paying attention.
Excellent battle. Really thought the Romans had broken through but the defence just kept finding a way to break back. The fireball attack just seemed to turn the tide at the right moment, opening a path for the general to split the attackers...
We spent 95% of the battle convinced we lost. it was NUTS. So glad you liked it!

I agree this sense of a mass scale battle with lines is missing for newer Total War titles. Especially with Warhammer, which in all fairness is a different take on the TotalWar idea but indeed a moshpit most of the time.
I still to this day remeber certain moments of my battles in Medieval 2

Oh I think his slow push was because of dealing with the cav on him (which was the goal) and he disconnected towards the end so that was AI playin later in the match
