I love this cover - it's such a jam. Deejay is just amazing. Apparently he was playing in Hamilton on Broadway before all the Covid craziness.
This is just amazing and that DJ guy needs to be apart of voiceplay they were awesome Geoff just blew my mind and qofy you left the room haha 😂 when I watched the premier I said qofy will walk out ok not till you were going through the song but you did it haha 😂😂

Oh man, I was SO SURE you we're gonna love it!! And what's not to love about it, right? It's just insane! Deejay's amazing, Geoff kills it, Layne's arrangement is awesome, everybody is outta this world! The more I listen, the more I love it, and I'm stuck on replay!!
I did some digging, cause I was interested too how they found Deejay and here's what my investigations revealed: A few years ago Deejay was apparently in another a cappella group ("Echo") who sometimes subbed for Voiceplay in some of their appearances at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando at "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party", (cause they obviously can't perform every single day for weeks) so they actually know him for some years now and I'm glad they finally chose to do such an amazing collab with him! I even found a video of one of their performances in said show, where Echo, including Deejay, officially take on the mantle of "VoicePlay" to sub for them, even tho clearly none of the members on stage is from the "real" VP!

I feel like it’s kind of a tradition I make these comments on the really good VoicePlay videos, so I feel like this one automatically needs one as well.
Oh. My. *GOD* is this one a banger! Geoff be hitting low notes through the entire song! We finally got some smooth subharmonics too.
I must say that Deejay Young’s voice fits really well with the rest of the boys. I especially love his falsetto/higher range voice.
J also showing of his higher range, which I really enjoyed!
Eli’s riff literally gave me a 10 second chill, I’ve never watched back a VoicePlay moment so many times.
Layne doesn’t get a lot of attention, which is kind of a shame. This arrangement could really use a beatbox solo.
But one of the best parts of this song is the harmonies. I love the minor to major switch at J’s solo and the little “Do do’s” that play there. VoicePlay is really leveling up their harmony skills.
Some overall news btw, they’re only going to be releasing two videos a month now. Just so you know! But you could always check out their older videos. And maybe even rewatch some!

I had no idea anybody had done a cover of this! Thank you for posting this reaction video. I love, love, love the AJR original, and I have to say Voiceplay's bass nailed it. I don't know how he was able to reproduce that mechanical/techno/retro slide sound - totally mad.
I knew I can count on you with such a quick reaction ❤️ I loooove the vibe they put into this so much. Especially as at the beginning they all seemed so strict, you know, their serious faces and poses. Then literal BANG and it all changed. I enjoy Geoff the most as well, but they all are making me want to dance. I think that's the mood we all need now and VoicePlay delivered again. Deejay is wonderfull, I never heard about him before and this was huuuge surprise. Another alien confirmed. He would fits to them, don't you think? I really do enjoy all their colabs, hopefully they will put them all at some album 🖤

If you don't bop while listening to this song you're broken. The runs in this one with the beat have made it my new favourite which is saying something as Warrior is amazing. Great points on the ascending and descending riffs. You're as fun to watch react as this video is fun to watch

Deejay was in Hamilton on Broadway before lockdown! So he is definitely crazy talented. And he showed it! I think this is definitely one of my favorite VP songs yet. They kept so much of the good parts of the song and just built on it all. And I love the part where they change it up in the middle. So dynamic.

This Deejay guy got SUCH an amazing voice! Even though his face really doesn't fit the voice, as after seeing the thumbnail of their video I kinda expected him to have a lower voice, but I was very pleasantly surprised about how high and beautiful it is. This entire song is just so nice and their amazing voices complement each other in such a great way.

Every time I listen to this performance I like it even more! Limitless talent. Incredible skill. Absolutely maximum fun! Deejay has a voice like I've never heard, and is SO expert at using it to maximum advantage. And I don't even like high tenors much! 6:29 Regarding that 'something' about J.None's solo and what Geoff dropped in, Geoff actually announces the 'secret' to J.None's key-shifting: "Majorize!" Then J.None changes up his solo from a minor key to a major key. Then Geoff's "Bring it back," and it's in the minor key again. Very clever, not only doing it, but his announcing it!

@@QofyReacts They really are musical geniuses! I went back to the original AJR video ( th-cam.com/video/4THFRpw68oQ/w-d-xo.html ), and they don't do it, that's a VoicePlay arrangement choice. The credits in the VoicePlay video's description say "Arrangement - Layne Stein," but then it also says, "Special Crazy Riff Arrangement - J.None," which I guess refers to that switch to major. Brilliant! (As was your reaction!)

The only problem with this song is that it's too short! I could have used another verse and chorus, what a bop! I like Deejay's high register, it's really pleasant.

@@rosedouglas9586 I know the feeling. There have been a few times when Voice Play (or Home Free, or Pentatonix) have released new videos when I'm not at home. I would get so excited that I'd listen to it right then and there. Then I'd get home and do it right and cuss myself for not waiting in the 1st place! I'm still impatient when they drop new stuff, but now I suck it up and wait until I get home and can do it justice right away! Lessons learned! 🤣
