Why would we pay yet another monthly fee for an Upgraded Alexa when we already have ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude 3 Sonet that we can use online for free?

    • @peterparker6584

Everything you listed is only going to be free for a time and the new eventually going to have to pay for it I've already looked into using GPT 4.0 and I was told that it's going to be a pay per use program and it's only free temporarily. Honestly surprised they haven't started charging for the use of Alexa years ago given how much money they lose on it and I've been wondering why they haven't updated it to something more human-ish. In Canada we still can't get access to the Samuel L Jackson upgrade as an example

@@peterparker6584 Look at it like this. Microsoft is making a move for a new free one which will be part of Windows 11. We will have to buy Windows 11 but that's it, so if we have one that is close to free in Windows 11 and other people are charging will they have a business for very long. They should think this through and start putting ads on their pages to pay for their service instead of charging fees, if they wish to survive.

Here are some pros and cons of smart devices like Alexa that are constantly listening and evolving:
    Pros:
    - Convenience: Smart devices can simplify daily tasks and make life more comfortable by responding to voice commands and automating routines.
    - Accessibility: These devices can be particularly helpful for individuals with disabilities or mobility issues, as they provide an alternative method of interaction.
    - Personalization: Over time, smart devices learn users' preferences and habits, allowing them to provide more tailored recommendations and experiences.
    Cons:
    - Privacy concerns: The constant listening and data collection by smart devices can raise privacy concerns, as personal information may be shared with companies or third-party organizations.
    - Security risks: Hackers may exploit vulnerabilities in smart devices, potentially accessing sensitive information or controlling devices without the user's knowledge.
    - Potential for error: AI-powered devices can sometimes misinterpret commands or make mistakes, leading to frustration or unintended consequences.
It's essential to weigh these pros and cons when deciding whether to incorporate smart devices like Alexa into your home. Additionally, understanding the potential costs associated with using these devices (e.g., subscription fees) is crucial for making an informed decision.

My family uses Alexa constantly. But the current iteration is super dumb. You have to say things just so and talk with absolutely no pauses; otherwise it runs with something unrelated to what you are asking. I'd pay a reasonable fee, so long as the entire focus was not on selling me more stuff. One thing Amazon really got right was the ordering process (naturally). Will their new AI allow extended input, where the user describes in detail what he wants it to do? Or will Amazon cut us short to save 1/2 cent? Will it remember anything other than our ordering history? Strategically, is Alexa a slick ordering service or a general helpmate across many domains? Good presentation!

If Alexa's limitation is that it cannot give you your favorite team's latest score, and that's a weakness of the Alexa platform. Whereas on the Google home system you never have that problem. Sounds to me that the people of Amazon are trying to dish out money and resources and time to some think that can be improved better in other ways and the business model of them making this something to be monetized. If you are not a prime member is completely ridiculous. They act as if they are the only competitor that has a home system that currently is not smart

What do you think would happen if you asked one of those new fangle Artificial intelligences to write a paper about something, but to make it sound like an Artificial Intelligence wrote it. After it finishes it tell it to rewrite it but make it more like an A.I. wrote it, make it really obvious an A.I. wrote it, when it finishes say "No, no,. no! More A.I. sounding! This sounds like a human wrote it, you have no clue what it means to be A.I., write it again, again, more A.I. sounding, more, more!". What do you think that paper would sound like after a few rewrites? It'd probably wouldn't comply after a couple tries ☹. That would be such a fun job, psychology torturing an A.I., try to break it, twist it, make it "evil"

Honestly hope they don't have to make us buy another Amazon Alexa device and we can you continue to use the ones we have and if we want opt into the pay system or keep it using the regular system. Ironically I have a very first generation Alexa in one of the rooms here at my house somebody threw it out and I eventually dug out a wall work and a cable and the thing works just fine the original Generation 1 hockey puck. I got a brand new unused Gen 2 or gen 3 several years ago from some apple fanboy gave them a bunch of Apple parts for it. Somebody had given it to them as a gift and they wanted nothing to do with the ecosystem LOL. I wish the smart plugs from Amazon weren't so expensive. I bought a couple third-party ones and still can't get them to work with my Alexa the $30 one from Amazon Works without any foolishness required but I dislike the fact you got to pay 30 bucks for each plug. You don't know how many times I've tried with the third party ones from a couple different companies and can't seem to get them to connect despite their supposed to be Alexa compatible. I wanted them to do something like chat gbt integrated with Alexa for several years so I feel less like I'm talking with the computer from Star Trek and more like I'm talking to something that I'm not treating it like a slave when we're doing something

Okay I would pay for a useful Alexa. She is below
useful now. She functions at 50% accuracy. Turning on some lights without request in the middle of the night! Anyway I would have to be convinced with a wowow experience. Maybe a free test month. And what if I didn’t want to pay for it at the end of the test month? They have sold millions of speakers. Will they disappoint millions of customers with a poor showing? I don’t know. I hope not. Over 10.00 cost is a non starter.
