Thanks for the video,Erick. I'm in possession of all of the except 3. I'm a big RPG/JRPG/SRPG gamer/collector. The best and most unique gaming genre off all. Although,in my adult life,I don't have much time to enjoy them as much as I used to. They bring me so much joy to play, watch, and collect. Most hold their value so well. Thanks again.
Same here! After playing ff8 when I was 9yrs old and also the original pokemon games on gameboy I was introduced to the genre with amazement and not fully understanding how deep the systems could be at such a young age, thankfully kept hold of all my games from that age onwards so I have a nice strong collection of rpgs that make up most my library of physical games and in a nerdy way I take a lot of pride in looking at them and playing them haha
@@ErickLandonRPG I figured it right after I sent the comment, but I thought you would make a list for games from 2013 to 2019. Either way, I was essencially looking for ps4 turn-based recommendations, but there are several in your channel already. Which I like since I only began enjoying turn-based games 2 years ago.
I still haven't play the cold steel series but i trust anything that made by Falcom.it's a very popular series,i saw it when i was in Chiba Tokyo. I need 2 add the 1st CS and Tokyo xandou as my collection 🔥
I was in awe that Lost Odyessey, Tales of Vesperia and Xenoblade Chronicles (my top JRPGs of that gen) were absent from PlayStation in NA at that time. Traditionally the strongest JRPG brand! 🤷🏻♂️
Most great jrpgs moved to handhelds in this generation. This gen saw mainline Dragon Quest and Shin Megami Tensei games for instance move to handhelds.
Retrospectively, the PS3 has some interesting releases: - The beginning of the downfall of Final Fantasy - The debut of a somewhat popular franchise (Neptunia) - 6 Ateliet games which weren't bad at all - One of the hardest games I've ever played (Resonance of Fate) - Two of the best JRPGs ever (Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2) Shouldn't Tears to Tiara 2 and Lost Dimension be on this list as well? Every time I see Last Rebellion I wonder if it's worth playing.
Lost Dimension...now,that's been a challenge for me to find. I'm still looking. Last Rebellion is average but still underrated. It's worth playing. I hope that you find it for the right price.
Is there a reason South Park the Stick of Truth isn’t included on this list? I know it wasn’t made by a Japanese company but it follows all of the traditional conventions of a JRPG.
I heard its a very linear game, in term of story and level design some people even said its not final fantasy but final hallway due to how linear the level is
I think it's worth. The combat in the begining seems simple but it gradually torns more challenging and funny and the lore is pretty interesting and could be hard to follow in the begining. Also the soundtrack is gorgeus (I'm talking about the first one, the other two are very different)
It is! 13-3 is outstanding and 13-2 has very flexible gameplay, like the postgame of tales of symphonia dawn of the new world, but right from the get go.
@@soratheorangejuicemascot5809 art style was absolutely fantastic and the game was unique so maybe that's why I still managed to finish it even if the gameplay was terrible.
PS3 era jrpg's were a diappointment compared to their predecessors. I started playing more western rpg's in this time because I found most of these titles derivative, clunky, tropey, stupid, or goofy. There were a few good titles, but not much.
In terms of a console to start getting games for or going back to, PS3 has not aged well due to lack of really outstanding exclusives, since you can play a lot of its best games on other consoles or PC (examples: Persona V, Trails of Cold Steel 1/2, Resonance of Fate, Valkyria Chronicles, etc) especially since quite a few have enhanced/definitive edition ports on PS4, so unless you are really eclectic and have to play every single JRPG game, I would suggest just skipping to PS4. Also, I noticed around the time of PS3, way more games were made multi-platform.

Dang ps3 and ps4 turn based
Game’s couldn’t even hold a candle to the ps1 and ps2 rpgs what the hell happened..
This is a great reference video for me who is playing through all of these games at the moment, I am currently enjoying playing through my psOne list.
Erick, these lists all these weeks have been awesome. I can't wait for the PS4 list. Thank you!
Won't do PS4 as they're still releasing games for it and probably will do so for many years to come!

Thanks! I've added all those that are in steam to my wishlist.
Thanks for making all these lists Eric.
Thank you again for this series Erick :)
Thanks for the list it kinda helps me to track these games down.
How come about 60% of these look like they could be renamed to 'lolis vs. Pokemon'?
Ah, yes, the "desert years".
So from here on out, the Lists will be entirely new to us that we watched them originally in your second channel
Tactics and actions too pleaseee!!
Needs commentary! We love your take on the game Erik
only ones I liked were: ffx, persona 5, and both legend of heroes trails of cold steel.
Wow, I knew there was a sad amount of turn-based jrpgs on a the ps3, I just didnt know it was so shitty.
I didn’t realize that there were so many arteries series
8:40 in words of the AVGN: WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??!!!
Have you played it? I actually really enjoyed it.
My Top 5:
1. Legend of Heroes Trails of the Cold Steel
2. Disgaea 4
3. Final Fantasy X HD
4. Persona 5
5. Revenant Saga
Except Disgaea is a SRPG.
Yes. Asdivine Hearts then in the top 5.
Going through this list like "have, have have".
Same here till you see one you don’t have and your initial reaction is “NEED!”
Eric you're doing the God's work
8:39 is what you came for.
Damn, 1:40.
Okay Gust, I will purchase your video game.

CS2-3 are masterpieces. I put them in the same league as Persona 5.
What was that one video deleted from the playlist. The top 10 Jrpg platform playlist. Does anybody know why it was deleted
Baring the Digital ones, akording to this list i haw them all, Yay.
Is it me or the PS3/Xbox 360 generation was globally quite bad for JRPG?
I was in awe that Lost Odyessey, Tales of Vesperia and Xenoblade Chronicles (my top JRPGs of that gen) were absent from PlayStation in NA at that time. Traditionally the strongest JRPG brand! 🤷🏻♂️
It was a great generation, it's just most turn-based RPGs, as you saw here, were kinda...questionable xD
7th gen is actually my favorite generation for JRPG but many of my favorites were strategy jrpgs
Most great jrpgs moved to handhelds in this generation. This gen saw mainline Dragon Quest and Shin Megami Tensei games for instance move to handhelds.
It's also missing Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord
Yes,I have this game in my library. Sweet game. Took me forever to track it down.
thank you so much i wanted some games like this for a whil
Hey Erick i was wondering wich rpg has the MOST convoluted and complicated battle system? Resonance of fate comes to mind
Try Knights in the Nightmare on the PSP/DS
@@ErickLandonRPG underrated game
I love this vídeo , thanks
Enchanted arms was xbox only right?
Did I see Valkyria Chronicles on here?
Huh? No? That's a strategy RPG.
My bad,I only popped it in for a second. I just noticed the turn based combat. I will have to really dive in. Thanks.

FF13 is my favorite one but its sequels were majorly lacking

“Turn based”
NIS apologized for Last Rebellion. it used to be $5. (still have the old price sticker on the case lol) Never got around to playing it though.
Thanks for this sauce
Mmmm erick spreadin the sauce
Of 3ds??
Alguien sabe cuales están disponibles en español su interfaz?
Wow Atelier rly fed us well!
Wait until the PS Vita list, lol

You answered your own question buddy.
I didn't see anything Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Not turn based
Action RPG.
FF13 series never caught my attention. I wonder if its worth playing?
I heard its a very linear game, in term of story and level design some people even said its not final fantasy but final hallway due to how linear the level is

its not a bad game. its a mediocre final fantasy. but not the worst in the series by a long shot. i feel like people complain way too much about it.
Skip the first one, the 2nd and 3rd are much better IMO.
It is! 13-3 is outstanding and 13-2 has very flexible gameplay, like the postgame of tales of symphonia dawn of the new world, but right from the get go.
Will you be doing a ps4 one now that PS5 is going to be taking over? What about Xbox platforms that would be cool
Please do the same for psvita
Will do :)
@@ErickLandonRPG thanks!
Its my imagination or there was no Disgaea mentions?
That's a strategy games like tactics, fire emblem etc
my god How many ateliers?
Never played the first Neptunia game yet.
I have...regretfully.
@@cyclonecat2556 it wasn't that bad. The gameplay was not great but the story was probably the best in the series
This video reminded me how jank the original Hyperdimension Neptunia games were. :I
Just Ateliê séries?
8:46 the horror ( Though the Neptunia games to me are way worse :v)
An absolute masterpiss.
Is it weird that I enjoyed time and eternity much more than any wrpg I have ever tried. I still thought the game was bad

I really enjoyed jrpgs in 7th gen and actually I think PS3 has my favorite jrpg library of all time. I find wrpgs impossible to enjoy.
10:03 I played this game and I didn't like it.
I played it on the XBOX 360 and stopped after 6 or 7 hours, horrible game IMO
I played like last year and had a blast underrated game IMO
It is not bad but not great either
It’s one of my favorite JRPGs
@Flame I’m sorry. We just have different opinions. But it’s okay to like it even if I don’t.
FF XIII and XIII-2 is bullcrap not turn based, to think of it only FF X have normal turn based battles o.O
there is a lot of atelier games.
Wait till the PS Vita list, lol
Persona 5 for ps3? What???
In terms of a console to start getting games for or going back to, PS3 has not aged well due to lack of really outstanding exclusives, since you can play a lot of its best games on other consoles or PC (examples: Persona V, Trails of Cold Steel 1/2, Resonance of Fate, Valkyria Chronicles, etc) especially since quite a few have enhanced/definitive edition ports on PS4, so unless you are really eclectic and have to play every single JRPG game, I would suggest just skipping to PS4. ngl most of these look like trash
They really do, especially compared to the PS1 or PS2 offerings.
Ffxiii doesn't seem turn based to me
majority of jrpgs from the PS3 era were moeshit, pretty grim
Only the turn-based, sadly.
