  • The Ricoh GRIIIx takes the already fantastic GRIII to the next level, with upgraded features and capabilities. Its 26.1-megapixel APS-C sensor delivers even better image quality, with improved color accuracy and dynamic range. The camera's fixed 28mm equivalent lens is still fast and sharp, with a maximum aperture of f/2.8, but now also features a new hybrid autofocus system that allows for more accurate and faster focusing.
One of the standout features of the GRIIIx is its compact size and portability. It's small enough to fit in your pocket, making it perfect for on-the-go photography. Despite its small size, it has a sturdy and high-quality build that feels great in your hand.
The GRIIIx also includes several features that make it ideal for street and documentary photography. Its Snap Focus mode allows you to pre-set the focus distance, making it easy to quickly capture shots without worrying about autofocus. Its macro mode lets you get up close and personal with your subjects, while its high-speed continuous shooting mode lets you capture fast-moving action with ease.
Other features that make the GRIIIx an incredible camera include its touch screen LCD, built-in Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity. It also has a customizable control ring that can be used to adjust settings like aperture and shutter speed, making it easy to get the perfect shot.
Overall, the Ricoh GRIIIx is an amazing camera that delivers stunning image quality in a compact and portable package. Whether you're a professional photographer or a hobbyist, this camera is sure to impress.

Long time user of the Ricoh GRII, added the GRIIIx when it launched, added a GRIII recently (including the wide angle adapter). Best everyday carry option for me.

I got this camera a few months back to have as a companion to my X100F. Now I find the GR3 as my main camera and the Fuji as my backup. If Ricoh were to address some of the obvious issues with this camera, I truly believe that the GR series would easily outsell Fuji's X100 series.

Solid thoughts. I definitely agree with your critical points of the GR series cams-and the capabilities. I've been running with mine for over a year as a 2nd cam to my RX1 that I've had since 2012. I've found that in use for urban photography, I've reached for it more often than my RX1 while carrying both because it is so quick to go from pocket to shot in one move. In fact, I just recently let go of my RX1r2-and on the verge of letting go of my og RX1.
For my photography, with daytime shots, the GR loses nothing to the RX1. I've even found the lens to be as good as the Zeiss Sonnar lens on the RX1 both for sharpness and quality of out-of-focus areas. The GR lens is /almost/ as good as the magical Sonnar look. Night time, I give up having f2, but IRL, for the type of shots I take at night, I'm hardly ever at f2.
No viewfinder is definitely a challenge with eyes that don't like focusing near as the years pass-especially in tight spaces where I'm squeezed with the GR 8 inches from my face. No flip screen is definitely a challenge when not taking shots while holding it near head or chest level. All that said, I've learned just to do my best, trust the cam, and to reframe in post if I'm slightly off
I love the image quality. I love the ergonomics-I can manage all the settings I need quickly with one hand without having to think about it. I love it's speed from pocket to shot and back to pocket. Image stabilization-as modest as it is-is a treat coming from shooting for a decade without it.
The GR is definitely my favorite-and now my primary camera.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it! I love it when I get to affirm my own commitment bias. 😂🍻

@@GregCamera i have an X100 original that i love to death but i am a pocket camera whore. I have found one small sensor camera that packs a big punch. The canon S95. Its a 10mp ccd that is an ultra compact with an F2 lens 28-105. So even at 35mm its still only @f2.5. The camera also shoots RAW and has ibis. The pics and colors are amazing under iso 400. Its gaining popularity but its still under $150 on ebay.

I bought the Ricoh as a second camera for my Nikon z6 and it hurts me to say it, but it's now my favorite camera simply because I can put it in my pocket and it's still a full-fledged camera that I always have with me. The slow autofocus is definitely a negative, but I would buy it again anytime. Incidentally, I have a "thumb rest" which, as a positive side effect, prevents me from accidentally turning the wheel on the back.

Nice work ! Just subbed. I also just got the camera for the reasons you mentioned. I like the camera size etc but being a Sony shooter the autofocus is frustrating. I have a lot more misses than hits. I guess this is a learning curve?

I‘m using snap focus on my gr3 what is obviously zone focusing, but if you get into it, you are quicker than every auto focus. Give it a try and you‘ll have more fun with your Ricoh.
PS: I use the fn button to switch between autofocus and snap focus so it‘s super quick accessible.

    Hi - cool video
I've been back and forth whether to sell my canon g7x mark iii for the Ricoh GR - i dont/hardly shoot video mainly interested in photo's but i do like having that option - Do you think the camera quality is good enough to warranty the change?
    Thanks

    • @GregCamera
      @GregCamera  ปีที่แล้ว

I think it's a good thought. I tried the g7x for about a week and was trying to compare it in my mind to the ricoh. The ricoh wins for start up time, no need for flippy screen, and (for me) quality of post processing photos. The g7X is great for varying focal lengths, ability to shoot useable video, and canon colors that a lot of people like. While similar in size they serve a few different purposes. I would choose the ricoh for quick snap shots and little to no post shoot editing. I would choose the canon for everything else. If that helps
