This is people genuinely reviewing poor business practices in a video game and using the only tool they have to protest it.
At this point aside from those under 18 with no money, I just see people who play these types of micros-transaction f2p garbage games as deserving of being abused. If you’re not going to boycott abusive trash games you will get more abusive trash games and eventually you will be the victim of that abuse.
The gameplay is completely free and the cosmetics are optional

There is no such thing as "free to play" unless the makers of the game outright give you the entire game for free playable without any requirements like internet connection, DRM, activation, or mandatory multiplayer. Any game that touts itself as "Free-to-play" will instantly shut down the moment ZERO players spend a single cent on any of the micro and macro transactions incorporated into it. The actual truth is that it only feels like it's free to play because other people who do spend money on the game are actually just the ones paying for your rented access to the game. Once they don't pay, you can't play.
@@etanlg while you're right, this take ignores the very anti-consumer, psychological manipulative business practices that F2P games implement to suck as much money out their playerbase as possible. Plus, we do own any cosmetics we buy. At any moment and for any reason, they can and they will revoke our access to the digital assests we pay for and we have zero legal grounds to do anything about it because of the Terms of Service we blindly signed.
It’s not a review bomb… people are getting sick and tired of these “free” online multiplayer games with no effort put in and being forced to buy battle passes…. Take an example from Bg3 and give us a finished product that’s better than everything else in the genre at launch or don’t even bother making them anymore

How are they forcing us to pay for battle passes? The players are weird making such a fuss about some skins you can't see while playing (character skins).
If you don't care about skins like me the game is just as free as it ever was. Comparing it to a 60-70 game is nonsense ofc.

literally the easiest game genre for these developers to make, there’s literally nothing to it just a map and kill things
No multiplayer game ever made deserves more than a 7/10
Plus, those are things that should already be in the game, if not in the game they should be attainable without using real world money
These developers need to take a lesson from Larian studios and give us fully finished, packed to the brim with content, no dlc or micro transactions ever, full effort video games at launch or they need to get out of the industry because there’s obviously no passion involved
Apex is basically making you pay x2 to receive a whole battle pass as its been split in half and each half costs the same price as the full battle pass used to.
EA took away to earn currency for Battle Passes in game and is forcing players to pay money for them because reasons.
There is still no regional pricing when it comes to this thing so people in countries like Brazil are paying 1/4th of their salary if they want half a battle pass.
The whole continent of Africa still doesn't have dedicated servers, thus while the rest of the world is playing on dedicated servers Africa has to play P2P while being expected to pay more money for battle passes.
Its well deserved.
10k+ hours on apex. 3 heirlooms. I quit apex recently the cheating, the match making. The game didn't respect my time before but with this it's a spit in the face.
Funny how they don’t consider blind praise supporting something all at once to be off topic review bombing. It’s even stranger that people voicing their opinion on something they’ve purchased is ever framed in a negative light.
I don’t believe there has ever been a blind praise bombing before, So either There is maybe one to two examples since it’s not as common as the reviewing bombing which sometimes makes sense and as well as sometimes makes no sense as well too

A bit disappointing. I'm not an Apex Legends player myself, but I often shone the light on it as one of the few battle royal games that supported Linux through Proton.

If anyone was wondering, Fortnite was the game that popularised the Battle Pass system. Game devs moved to this system because several governments (the US was not one of them) started banning the Loot Boxes system because it was similar to gambling.

Step 2) Buy new $50 skin
Step 3) Queue into game
Step 4) Complain
Repeat step 3 and 4 until new skin drops.

It's not review bombing, it's a message to the big game company that people are sick of being ignored for a long period of time.
Apex legends was a great game to play with friends online and I have a great time. For almost 4 years, I paid the battle pass with in game currencies and most were earned by playing the game ( I have to admit I bought a couple of mid sized packs though), but take away that option that's a bad idea. No surprise here since it's EA after all.

I think it was DOTA for battlepass but they are remove as hinder development. That I think of the docs about the battlepass on youtube. Those people have good research about the pros and cons of it.

Free to play game is no longer free to play, and you’re surprised the reviews are reflecting that?
It is still free to play because you really don't need the skins. I only paid for bp once becasuse I was happy with such a good free game and the bp really made me play more than I would without.
So in the end it is their loss. I can still play and have not changed skins in a year now so the game is still free for me but I will just play less.

Free to play games needs a certain procent of whales and a lot of cheap skates to show them off to. So yeah they need money but this is not the way I think. They should have taken smaller steps instead of changing it to paid AND 2 battle passes in 1 season.
Look I don't care about skins (can't see them most of the time) and I have not changed a skin in at least a year so I am fine with this. It is still free :)
