Fuck yeah, dude. The 70's was the best time to be a teenager. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad, Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and Lynyrd Skynyrd to name just a few.
They were all in transe, that night, but, Jimmy, was possesed by the devil himself, in DAZED AND CONFUSED 😂He lead the other demons of that band, to make, probably, the best concert ever, Led Zep Madison Square Garden, 1973, with JIMI HENDRIX, live at Woodstock 1969, Jimi Hendrix, Band of Gypsies1969/70(the new year eve shows),and Jimi Hendrix live at the L.A forum April 1969, Pink Floyd, the Wall live 1980/81, at Berlin, and live at Earls Court 1994, and Queen live at Wembley 1986....Those are the most MONSTRUOUS SHOWS I EVER SAW IN MY LIFE.....👍✌️But, in my opinion, if you watch the complete version of VOODOO CHILD, BY JIMI HENDRIX, LIVE AT WOODSTOCK (the 12:40 minutes full version), you will realize, that guy is unmatchable! IT'S UNREAL, if you watch the 12:40 minutes long version of VOODOO CHILD at WOODSTOCK, you will understand.....
The greatest guitarist always get lost in their own world, just look at hendrix too, the dude was on another planet when playing live. They both just fully embrace the music and the moment and let go of limitations
It's an 18 string guitar, 12 on top and 6 on the bottom with different tunings. Jimmy Page is the greatest guitar player in history. Led Zeppelin is his band.
This song is all about the build-up, the rising of the instruments, the drums, Roberts' voice, and Jimmy's guitar. It's probably one of the best rock songs ever.
Jimmy Page recorded this song using both a 6 string and a 12 string guitar for different parts. Using a double necked guitar when playing it live allowed Page to go back and forth between them without switching guitars.
Hi Michael, I'm surprised you haven't done this yet! Better late than never. Just know that because this is a live version, it is different. Listen to the original studio version when you get the chance. It doesn't have to be a reaction but it is a definite must because it's how we all heard it the first time on the radio back in the mid 1970's.
Can't choose top 3 songs because there is no bad song from them and they have a big catalog. I do have one favorite and that is In the Light. It's a slow relaxing song. But I love their whole catalog. Most people are going to tell you to react to these few by Led Zeppelin (yes it's only a few from their catalog): Kashmir, Black Dog, Whole Lotta Love, When the Levee Breaks, Dazed and Confused, What is and What Should Never Be, Going to California, Since I've Been Loving You, Rock N Roll, Over the Hills and Far Away, Misty Mountain Hop, Good Times Bad Times, Communication Breakdown, Immigrant Song, Ramble On, Living Loving Maid, Heartbreaker, All My Love, Thank You, D'er Make'er, In the Evening, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, How Many More Times, No Quarter, Hey Hey What Can I Do, In My Time of Dying, Ten Years Gone, Moby Dick, Trampled Under Foot, Fool in the Rain, The Rain Song.
Great English rock band from the 60's-70's. "Stairway To Heaven" is their most famous song but they have a huge library of hits. "Immigrant Song", "Whole Lotta Love", "Kashmir", "Black Dog", "Ramble On", "When The Levee Breaks", “Dazed & Confused”, “Since I’ve Been Loving You”, "Rock & Roll", "The Ocean", "Over The Hills & Far Away", "The Song Remains The Same", "The Rain Song", "Good Times Bad Times" etc.
Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He succeeded Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck as the guitarist for the English blues group the Yardbirds, which eventually morphed into Led Zeppelin. The reason for the guitar with two necks is that it gives him both a six string and a twelve string guitar without having to change instruments. He used them both during this song. His long solo was done using the six string neck, of course. I believe the fluty sound that accompanied the guitar at the beginning was bassist John Paul Jones on a keyboard. John Bonham was indeed a great rock drummer. And the man with the incredible voice who fronted Led Zeppelin, is Robert Plant.
My favorite live performance is Since I’ve Been Loving You at Madison Square Gardens (1973). It’s so beautiful blues, Plants passionate vocals are out of this world.
This was recorded at MSG in 1973 while they were finishing up their US Tour. They played either 4 or 5 nights and I was at two of those shows. All 4 musicians Page- Guitar, Plant-Vocals, Jones-Keys-Bass and Bonham-Drums were GOATS. You should listen to "The Immigrant Song" and "The Battle of Evermore" if you want to hear Lord of the Rings.
TOTALLY AGREE ... all of the band members are top 10 all-time in rock history...Bonham BEST drummer in history; Plant and Page in top five and JPJ is top ten bass/keys...
Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love - Immigrant Song - Kashmir - Rock n Roll - Over the Hills and Far Away - The Ocean - The Song Remains the Same - When the Levee Breaks - Dyer Maker - Dancing Days - Going to California - All of my Love - Black Dog - Battle of Evermore - Fool in the Rain - Good Times Bad Times - Heart Breaker - Misty Mountain Hop - No Quarter - Rain Song - Ramble On ..... Just to name a few! All their songs are Great!
Zeppelin are just the greatest Band ever...so many classics. Many are Tolkienesque , the best example being No Quarter .When the Levee breaks is another must listen. Battle of Evermore too. Enjoy
My favorites are Black Dog, Kashmir, The Ocean, The Rain Song, Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, and on and on and on! I saw them in concert in 1974, Page and Plant in 1994, Robert Plant in 2009 and I have tickets to see Robert Plant in June 2023 in Taos, NM (outdoor venue in the Rockies!) Led Zeppelin was the best concert I've ever seen in over 50 years of seeing most of the greats of rock!
My favorite, Michael, and I was in high school during this time. I’ll never forget the music then. It brings me joy to see today’s younger folk become so enthusiastic and sometimes awestruck, as they check out this music.
Whenever I hear this song, I think back to a backpacking trip back in the mid 70's. I was in Junior High and we went on a backpacking trip as part of a optional gym class. We were in the high Sierra Mountains and joined up with a group of older kids for an evening campfire. One of them had packed his guitar and he played Stairway. I'll never forget the young blond high school girl that was singing along, totally entranced by the music. At the time, she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.
If you watch he does play both. The 12 string on top, and the 6 string on the bottom. Each set of 6 is tuned to a different key, which means he doesn't have to keep changing guitars. This song is 50 years old, and this video is nearly that old.
Led Zeppelin used a lot of references to LOTR which had become popular with college students during their heyday. You ought to listen to the studio versions of everything before you go into live performances. The studio versions are what made these songs famous - some of them are masterpieces of production as well as musicianship.
Still amazes me we still have first time listeners for Stairway. You will find out; it came out in the early '70's (1971 I believe) and it's every Classic Rock station's staple for 50 years. It always shows up on a best 100 list, even a top 10. Add in,It was the most requested songs of all time and got to the point where it was overplayed a bit. It's a masterpiece stated by trained musicians, and it took the music world by storm. Welcome to the world of LZ. Just don't get stuck on Stairway. Their depth goes a lot further.
Funny that you said it gave u LOTR vibes… Jimmy page explains that the beginning of the song meant to have a peaceful medieval sound. Masterpieces like this don’t just happen, the whole band work very intently to produce this amazing music
@@michaelwduffy They were all hardcore Lord of the Rings nerds, especially Robert. Their 'Ramble on' and 'The Battle of Evermore' among others are very heavily inspired by Tolkien, so much so that they actually mention Sauron, Gollum & other characters by name :D
Great band, great song!! Check out the tribute by Heart at the Kennedy Center Honors, long version doing this song. Led Zepplin are all sitting in the balcony. John Bonham, the original drummer passed away and his son Jason plays on the tribute. Phenomenal!
All LIVE, unedited. True bad-ass talent. This is EXACTLY why you went to see them live! The albums were great, in person LOUD, CLEAR, Tight and AWESOME. Over 50 years old and still FRESH! Saw them 3X live. 69-70-77. SF, SF, and Oakland. This video is typical LZ. GOAT Rock/Blues
1:20 Dude, they have a lot of Lord of the Rings and tons of ancient Greek and other mythologies, Viking mythologies and so forth that they incorporate references to into their songs on a regular basis. I have a feeling you would absolutely love them.
I was at this concert on the floor right in front of Paige. I had a USMC brother who lived in the Bronx that came up with tickets for the Saturday night performance. I flew in on Friday and met his Ole Lady and her Cousin. Her cousin was like Wow. We went to the show and it was incredible. I stayed a few extra days as her cousin gave me the tour of the city and alot more. 6 months later she flew south. We have been together for 50 years. And we still rock out to the greatest band ever.
This song broke a lot of music norms. Keeps speeding up and adding instruments building to an all in finally. The lyrics also were so great. all from Rocks greatest band ever. The greatest voice, guitarist drummer and bass and more player ever. Too bad you didn't see them perform in person.
Jimmy Page is playing what is called a Double Neck Guitar. Each neck is tuned to a different tone which makes it an easy transition instead of changing guitars in the middle of the song. I hope that helps!
From 1972 to 1999 this was the #1 requested song on rock radio nationwide every year. It was so EVERYWHERE that in guitar shops (millions were inspired to buy guitars from this song) would ban the playing of the song in the stores. The employees got sick of hearing it in good and bad fashion all day long. Jimmy Page is on the MT. Rushmore of guitar Gods with Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. The instruments here are six string acousitc (under the whole song) six string electric, 12 string electric, (all done by Jimmy Page through many over dubs in the studio) John Paul Jones is playing an early synthesizers (recorders/flutes or at least it sounds like them, doesn't it?) John Bonham on the drums. Robert Plant wrote the lyrics to Page's music.
Watch the whole concert film The Song Remains the Same, it has added video sequences, spooky lights and mood, Madison Square Garden, and backstage antics between some of the best sounds of the 70s.
Your reaction was fun to watch. This song is epic. You may be interested in watching the Heart tribute to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center Honors. It is awesome to see Led Zeppelin’s reaction.
In the early 1970's I was fortunate enough to see them live in concert in LA. At the end of the performance I was shaking so hard that I could hardly drive home. I still shake when I here this song at age 72.
Myself and most Zeppelin fans I know might put this high on their favorites list, but not at the top. There's just too many great songs by them, but this got a lot of play on radio back in the day.

Sorry to double up on comments, but you challenged me. Led Zeppelin is my favorite band since I was 13 so... 😁 #1!!! "Kashmir Live from Celebration", "When The Levee Breaks" and "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" THANK YOU MICHAEL ❤ You started my Saturday off with a bang!
I of course have all the studio albums on vinyl and CD. But I rarely listen to them I have over 700 bootlegs. They’re where you hear the real Zep. Different every night.
, when I was a teenager they played this song out so so so much for so many years but so I stopped loving it and loved all their other music but now you've made me love this one again too so thank you
This is our favorite LZ because of profound lyrics: "If there's a bustle in your hedge row, don't be alarmed now - it's just a spring clean for the May queen".
You need to listen to the studio version aswell (I always recommend listening to studio before live as live versions often have modifications and improv).
Michael you are so lucky to be such a Rock Virgin and hear this all for the first time. On second thought I don't know if that's really good or bad. Maybe its better to get fed to us over time as we all did during the turbulent times we grew up in. Either way, enjoy you are lucky. "That Guitarist"?????? No......its Mr. Jimmy Page.. Not "that guitarist" my friend. Great Channel!!!
An amazing band! John Paul Jones is so good, yet so under-rated. You should definitely check out The Rain Song. I think you'd love that song. It's almost a spiritual experience...
Paige used the top guitar, the 12-string, to play the more mellow accompaniment of the early part of the song. Then, he switched to the six-string lead guitar on the bottom for the improvisational solo bridge.
It's worth watching The Song Remains The Same, the movie from which this is taken. It's mostly footage of the band in concert and has classic songs in it. Especially the Dazed And Confused song that goes on for almost 20 minutes.
Welcome to the rabbit hole! Don't miss out on anything! Do yourself a favor and just start from the first song on the first studio album and keep going! Greatest band ever! 👇🐇🕳️✌️
This is one of first super groups created in rock best drummer of history one of best guitarrisr singer and the multi instumentist who really support the compositions and remeber this is alive
If you have not seen the Kennedy Center honors program where Zepplin was honored you really should. It would delight you so much to see how much THEY enjoyed the performance by the Wilson sisters and by all the other musicians that participated in that number it was quite a show stopper.
4 master musicians were required to make up LZ! The instrument you didn’t recognize at the start was JPJ playing the sounds of the recorder. Live recording from MSG in 1973, later released in 1976 as the film titled “The Song Remains the Same”, watch it sometime.
Please explain the mayonnaise jar!! ha! 🤔 Glad you liked this. Perfect rendition. And yes, it was influenced by “The Lord of the Rings”. As so many of their songs were.
The significance of the double neck guitar it’s that the top neck is a 12 string and the bottom neck is a 6 string. It lets Jimmy play the amazing acoustic sound you hear for most of the song and then switch to the 6 string for the solo and back to the 12 string at the end without having to change guitars during the song. 🎸
Fun reaction as always. Some point you will end up hearing the studio cat which is even more defined. It packs so much punch. For more Tolkien references, check out Ramble On. It's got one of the greatest John Paul Jones bass lines ever. But it's just a great song overall.
Jimmy Page = guitar God!!!! One of the best songs ever and as far as classic rock goes.... Zeppelin is one of the best there is and this song holds up today!!!!!!!
When I first saw this show it was a three day party. Day one was the preparty, Day two was the all day party and show, Day three was to bring it all down and recoup.
Hey Michael, really like your enthusiastic reactions. If you wanna do a short Led Zep song, try 'Rock and Roll'. They called it 'spontaneous combustion', because it just sort of made itself up while they were jamming.

101 FM WMMS. They were pioneers in AOR Album Oriented Rock. Not your average Pop Rock Radio station. They were #1 in Cleveland. Awarded Best FM Station by Rolling Stone. WNEW New York was similar in Format.
We heard the songs from LP's on request. Album Sides and cover to cover playbacks. You had to be here to know why "Cleveland Rocks". Watch an interview with Ian Hunter, about that song and it's meaning.
We are The very best Rock & Roll Fans. Fortunately this City had WMMS and the greatest DJ's of all time. Kid Leo, Matt The Cat, Denny Sanders, BLF Bash, Betty Korvan ,Jeff & Flash, (the first Morning Zoo).
Well, that's an understatement. This song was played to death on the radio. So much so that Robert Plant paid a radio station NOT to play it.
First rule.........You do not stop a Jimmy Page Guitar Solo!! And yes, this is 1973.
Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love, Bring It On Home. (Love the stash and beard)
Man you came late to this one...better late then never! The GOATS! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was three rows from the front of the stage at a live gig of Robert Plant live and he sounds exactly like this. Real soul.
You have no idea you've opened Pandora's box...I'm jealous.
No thank you leeann!!! 😁🙏
May I suggest that you treat yourself to the studio version? It's amazing!
You got it Vicki !!
I of course have all the studio albums on vinyl and CD. But I rarely listen to them I have over 700 bootlegs. They’re where you hear the real Zep. Different every night.
, when I was a teenager they played this song out so so so much for so many years but so I stopped loving it and loved all their other music but now you've made me love this one again too so thank you
Robert Plant: A man with pants so tight, you can tell his religion.
My 3 favorites are "When the Levee Breaks", "In the Evening" and "Nobody's Fault but Mine". Great reaction!!
This is our favorite LZ because of profound lyrics: "If there's a bustle in your hedge row, don't be alarmed now - it's just a spring clean for the May queen".
Double neck guitar, top 12 strings, bottom, 6 strings. They are tuned differently.
You need to listen to the studio version aswell (I always recommend listening to studio before live as live versions often have modifications and improv).
One of the the guitar GOATS Jimmy Page
NEVER EVER STOP DURING A GUITAR SOLO!!! Your forgiven this time
Michael you are so lucky to be such a Rock Virgin and hear this all for the first time.
Also do The Song Remains The Same/The Rain Song live both together and No Quarter live both at this same concert 1973 at MSG!!
The reason for the double guitar is top neck us a 12 string bottom is a 6 string, Jimmy plays both switching back and forth
This is one of first super groups created in rock best drummer of history one of best guitarrisr singer and the multi instumentist who really support the compositions and remeber this is alive
The rain song, dazed and confused in tea for one of my three top Led Zeppelin songs❤
best version of stairway to heaven by far
That whistle instrument is just a standard Recorder (often used in elementary school music programs).
Jimmy wanted something that started slowly and built up and up.
Robert Plant vocals is a big Lord of the rings fan, a lot of references in their songs
Please explain the mayonnaise jar!! ha! 🤔
Glad you liked this. Perfect rendition.
And yes, it was influenced by “The Lord of the Rings”. As so many of their songs were.
3 songs:
Over the hills and far away
Ten Years Gone
Rock and roll ( live 1973)
The significance of the double neck guitar it’s that the top neck is a 12 string and the bottom neck is a 6 string. It lets Jimmy play the amazing acoustic sound you hear for most of the song and then switch to the 6 string for the solo and back to the 12 string at the end without having to change guitars during the song. 🎸
Fun reaction as always. Some point you will end up hearing the studio cat which is even more defined. It packs so much punch.
For more Tolkien references, check out Ramble On. It's got one of the greatest John Paul Jones bass lines ever. But it's just a great song overall.
F___g applause standing ovations
Learn about all four of them. Freaking legends all.
“This is a song of hope”
If you want to hear their late drummer John Bonham's genius (they all were) watch "Moby Dick" It's absolutely INSANE
When the Levee Breaks, HeartBreaker, Ramble On
Jimmy Page = guitar God!!!! One of the best songs ever and as far as classic rock goes.... Zeppelin is one of the best there is and this song holds up today!!!!!!!
Zeppelin #1 Stairway to Heaven #2 Kashmire #3 Thank You
Excellent reaction, thanks
Many of LZ's songs back then had loads of lyrics about LOTR. Lots of stuff about Mordor etc..
You got it Brian I’ll get it done soon for you! 😁🙏
Just wait. They’re not finished yet!
It's wonderful to watch Jimmy Page making love to his guitar(s)!!!
Great reaction ! Please do the studio version too. Please do RAMBLE ON and OVER THE HILLS FAR AWAY by Led Zepplin
Jimmy wrote this requiring 3 different guitars which is how it's recorded. To play it on tour he had this guitar custom made. First double neck ever.
It’s a flute, not a whistle. And the singer is Robert Plant, the most gorgeous man in ROCK
