When the greatest guitarists are listed, it's almost always the rock stars like Jimi Hendricks, Van Halen, etc, and they were great, but guys like Roy Clark and Glen Campbell take a back seat to no one.
Roy Clark was self taught and played multiple instruments. Both of these legends were absolutely amazing! It's such a privilege to have been raised with these fine artists.
I grew up during the 60s, my friends and I were heavily into the rock music that exploded onto the music scene at the time... several of us were aspiring guitarists, like tens of thousands of teens at the time, teaching ourselves to play the music of the so called rock guitar gods. We tended to be dismissive of country music, as most of what we heard on the radio seemed simple minded and dreary, in our minds it was lame music for hicks and cowboys, the antithesis to the rock music we favored. Then we happened to see Roy Clark on the TV, we could hardly believe our eyes and ears, here was this masterful guitarist that could put most of our guitar heroes to shame... we learned right then and there to set our snobbery aside, with the realization that amazing talent can be found in any genre, even the country music that we disdained so easily. It opened my mind forever to explore other realms of music that I had ignored. Much gratitude to Roy!
Takes me waaay back to a wonderful time in my childhood! Poor as dirt but always so happy to hear those songs! Today I realize how lucky we truly were!!♥️😎🦋
I’ve been a Johnny Cash fan for decades, and I never knew he played harmonica never knew that this is a Jim Mungai from Kennerdell, Pennsylvania, Johnny and Roy Clark. Good combination.
No doubt that Glenn Campbell and Roy Clark are 2 world class guitar players, but I had the great privilege and honor to meet a great fiddle player one night at a jam session in Miami. It was Ervin Rouse, t h e man who wrote Orange Blossom Special. He wrote many songs for Johnny Cash and other great country stars. At the time I didn't know I was in the presence of greatness, I just knew he was one he'll of a fiddle player
Roy Clark is the most brilliant guitarist EVER. Such virtuosity! And all so relaxed, with a smiling face. Hope he has received the accolades he deserves.
Two legendary talents at the top of their game (they were both in their mid-40's when they recorded this classic). It says something about Roy Clark in particular, that he could recognize that Johnny Cash was the headliner (I think it was Johnny's variety special) so he should sing the harmony line and play rhythm guitar under Cash's harmonica soli.
Notice Roy's guitar, it' s not an off the shelf instrument, it's a Gretsch Chet Atkins Super Axe model 7680 that Chet himself developed in 1976. This one is darker than Chet's, that was red.

I’m a upper level beginner guitar player at best, whatever that means but I love watching Roy Clark and Glen Campbell videos of just pure mastery of the instrument. Beautiful to watch and inspired me to pick up the guitar and play.
Roy Clark played for the Garfield County fair days in the 80's in Rifle Colorado after Exxon stopped production of mining oil shale in the area where many lost their jobs. Roy donated all of his proceeds to the area. What a class act he was to assist.

Roy could blow Jimi out of the water
Glen Campbell greatest of all time
@@johnnykorgan8946 Great, yes, better than Roy Clark, no.
@garymorris1856 well I'm ok with you believing that but you must not know music that much Roy was fun music but Glenn could out play anyone
@@johnnykorgan8946 That's great, I am so fucking relieved that you are "Ok" with it, I was so worried about your approval, NOT!!!!!
Johnny and Roy should have toured together. They would have sold out a lot of shows.
Been great... but think Johnny did ok! :)
Roy Clark is one of the best pickers to every strap on a guitar.
Roy Clark was self taught and played multiple instruments. Both of these legends were absolutely amazing! It's such a privilege to have been raised with these fine artists.
Mr. Clark was amazing on the guitar, banjo and fiddle!
Yes, and the sad part is there is no one that can replace Roy Clark, Jerry Reed or Chet Atkins either. Seems like that style of music is gone.
Luv Cash & Clark ❤
I'll second that notion!!
Roy Clark and Glen Campbell were two of the greatest guitarists of all time.
The 50s, 60s, and 70s were a time when two men like this could get together and magic would happen.

He taught you a lesson. That's a great thing about life a life lesson.
@@bradr2142 Indeed, a valuable lesson to be sure
Two of the best country music stars that will never be equaled. Today's music can not even come close to their style and class. ❤😊
yep
So true 🍻
Nothing even comes close to these two.
Dois artistas geniais que faziam arte, no melhor sentido da palavra "arte". Saudações e bênçãos.
Seeing the respect between two excellent musicians is special.
So awesome! Roy made every instrument he played look effortless ❤
Takes me waaay back to a wonderful time in my childhood! Poor as dirt but always so happy to hear those songs!
Today I realize how lucky we truly were!!♥️😎🦋
Roy Clark is so fast on the guitar and so is Johnny Cash on the harmonica that was such a great great thing to see
They are good and now they are singing for god and may god bless their family and friends and fans
Fantastic seeing two legends have such fun. An absolute treat.
Absolute LEGENDS
I’ve been a Johnny Cash fan for decades, and I never knew he played harmonica never knew that this is a Jim Mungai from Kennerdell, Pennsylvania, Johnny and Roy Clark. Good combination.
Whenever he played this song, he’d use a harmonica! Fine harmonica player!
Roy Clark just showed you, he could make a guitar sing!

My dad grew up with Jr.samples from hee haw. He used to tell me stories about the good Ole days.

Nice catch! Now I will have to take out a second mortgage to acquire one! 😂
They are few and far between.
Masters of the craft.
The amount of talent in the person is only equal to the amount of desire they aspire to..
Two of the best!
All the best are gone. Such a great era of greats that will never be replaced.
Csodás idők. Mikor még azt hazudtuk magunknak, hogy amerika a jövő...
FROM FRANCE, GREAT !!! fantastic moment
one of the greatest voices & one of the greatest musicians - it does not get any better.
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THEM! GREAT GUYS! NO MORE LIKE THEM ANYMORE!
The best part of Orange Blossom Special is Johnny Cash playing the Harmonica, and Roy Clark rules,an amazing musician!
Dannm, I miss him. ( spelled wrong purpose). RIP to both of these super greats. Loved them both.

Jesus. I’ve never heard Roy Clark before, but seeing him play here I damn sure won’t forget him 🤯 absurdly talented
He could play any genre... blues, jazz, boogie woogie, you name it. He also played the banjo and fiddle at this same level. An incredible musician!
I love roy and johnny....
Roy Clark played for the Garfield County fair days in the 80's in Rifle Colorado after Exxon stopped production of mining oil shale in the area where many lost their jobs. Roy donated all of his proceeds to the area. What a class act he was to assist.

I get goose bumps❤😂
They look like there having a blast
Picking on an Electric Guitar is no easy feat. Roy has this mastered. As for Johnny: 1973, Landsdowne Ottawa Concert will forever stay with me 🥰
Eddie Van Helen was asked the question, who is the greatest guitarist of all time. He said ROY CLARK!!
pure genius both
Legends!
Se eu tivesse nascido nesta época eu séria muito mais feliz
Incredible 😍
You’re looking at the greatest to ever pick strings. They can come up with all these greatest guitar players lists. Roy was in a league of his own.
Luv Cash & Cary ❤
Incomparable. .. not yesterday not today not ever ❤
Legenden! 🎸❤️
In the beginning Johnny uses Roy's comedy when he says "that's a train" after the harmonica intro.
That's good stuff!
