Bridgerton Season 2 Recap and Review
This season we are Duke-less but does it affect the season? As everybody has noted there’s less sex but somehow more passion. The chemistry between Kate and Anthony is electric as Bridgerton focuses on the second book: The Viscount Who Loved Me.

Hoping to get some scenes with Kate pregnant and still out galloping like a true horsegirl, and Anthony being all worried and trying to get her to slow down... Much potential for more drama indeed 😄
I sort of preferred that they changed the story this season cause the original story was very similar to season 1. They flirt, get caught in a compromisable position, get married, add some tension, then fall in love. I like that they went thr forbidden love route had me on edge the entire season.
I'm sorry, but Marina was deceitful from the start. Yes, what Pen did was wrong, but Marina was essentially trapping Colin into a marriage by lying to him - he said so himself, had she been honest with him from the beginning, he probably would've married her despite the child not being his. Her situation might have been tragic, and a product of how little women were taught about sex at the time, but her marrying Phillip was a much better option than her deceiving another man into marriage.
I'm not saying Pen has the right to out people as she pleases, or when it benefits her, but her being Lady Whistledown makes sense. As someone who has been only laughed at or ignored by the ton, it's no surprise she needed an outlet, what she chose to do with it is another thing entirely. And as for Eloise - all she did was talk about herself, her interests and her pursuits. Their friendship thus far has been about Eloise and Eloise only. You should be able to tell your best friend all your secrets, and the fact that Penelope did not feel as if she could tell Eloise both about her being Lady Whistledown and about her feelings for Colin says more about Eloise than her. Eloise, as open minded as she claims she is, is still extremely judgmental of anyone that does not share exactly the same views as her. I adore her as a character but she is still so young and has a lot to learn - she thinks the whole world is against her because she is a woman born into a high class society and I am glad she had Theo this season to learn there are so many people worse off than her.
I'm not saying Pen is right for what she wrote about her, I'm saying that this is a great learning opportunity for the both of them. Both of their actions are explainable, but not justifiable. They're both very young women with no knowledge of the real world and perhaps this rift between them is necessary if they're to continue being friends. Pen needs to learn to take accountability for what she writes and learn how it affects the people around her, and Eloise needs to learn to appreciate the people around her, what they do for her, and also, how her actions affect them.
Exactly. I logically know that what Pen does in season 2 is bad but I couldn't bring myself to be really mad at her, and it took me a while to remember why. And it's all about Eloise being an ass to someone she calls her best friend. All Eloise does is talk about what she wants without any regard to Penelope - talking nonstop about Lady Whistledown, about how they both don't want to get married (which she kinda didn't notice is not the truth). And now it's all Theo this, Theo that, yeah, we're supposed to go out, too bad.
She says she's Pen's best friend but it feels like she's treating her like everyone else - as if she's invisible. Yeah, not always, there's that scene where they run away from the ball, but that's it. Eloise doesn't see her, just like anyone else

Season 2 was definitely better than Season 1. I am gonna steal this line: Season 1 had more sex, but Season 2 was sexier. After Daphne and Simon got married, I absolutely lost any interest for them. I always say that they were like two absolutely stunningly beautiful statues but there was no life in them. Also the "I burn for you" has made me super cringe every time I have thought of it during this past 12 months, and the sex scenes made me feel uncomfortable - but that's just me. However, Kate and Anthony - wow, wow, wow. The chemistry was off the chart. And basically every character was better this season. and I didn't miss Duke once. And I totally agree - I don't know what needs to happen to make me believe in Pen and Colin especially after his last comment about her to his friends.
The idea to have Kate and Anthony as a main subplot is so so great - I just hope they don't f*ck it up with some cringey drama - give me just some marital bliss.

In all fairness, Kate tried to deter Edwina, warned her so many times that she would never receive love and tried to prevent the match, but Edwina was adamant that she loved him and wanted to be his wife, I don’t know what people expected Kate to do or say
She could have told the truth. 🤷🏾♀️ I get it’s a TV show and they needed to build sexual tension. It’s just a shame Kate/Edwina’s relationship had to be compromised. In the book it’s handled better IMO.
@@ChugUgly Why would she tell Edwina? Edwina would have been distressed if she had known that her sister was in love with her fiancé - something Kate wanted to avoid as she had always protected Edwina. Had the bangle incident not occurred, Edwina would have become Viscountess (as she desperately wanted) and been sublimely ignorant of the situation. I love that Kate and Anthony were prepared to sacrifice their own feelings for Edwina's sake.
Pen is the girl that's all overlooked and not the girl that ppl are drawn to, due to her not fitting the beauty standards. Her mother seems to prefer her sisters and isn't that invested into her and last scene was her hearing that from Colin. Most of her actions are reaction, Or way of lashing out due to her position she have in life. I like her cause usually women especially with her body type in these shows are just the supportive friend who don't have any agency or desire of her own. I don't support what she is doing but I can understand it. When she hurt everybody hurts
Exactly. As someone who was fat my whole life, it's so nice to see a three dimensional girl that doesn't fit beauty standards as one of the main characters.
I just hope she'll mature next season so she's her best self for season 4. Even the actress said that Penelope is just a 17 years old girl, who doesn't want to be responsible for everything and makes dumb decisions because she's still basically a kid (I'm writing this as a 23 years old kid who also tried to run from all my problems)
This perfectly captures my soft spot for Pen. Yes, she has made some bad choices, and while I hate what she did to Eloise instead of just telling her the truth she doesn't deserve the constant put-downs and neglect she gets from her mother. Colin made her feel seen, she even said in S1 that she's not someone people notice but Colin has always seen her and wanted to protect her so there's no reason his feelings couldn't grow into romantic love. Hearing someone you care about scoff at the idea of being with you has to be a different type of pain and Pen tends to react instead of thinking through her actions but she's also supposed to be a 17-year-old girl and speaking from experience there isn't a lot of thought that goes into emotional reactions, especially at that age.
I loved s2 more than s1. Kate and Anthony are everything. Loved them.

Part of the problem with S2 was the fact that the Sharma family dynamic was left way to much to subtext, and Lady Mary had no real character development. Ep 6 was really misunderstood because of that and the resolution of the sisters' dispute just didn't hit right. I definitely liked S2 better than S1. I am excited to see what they do with S3.
I hoping to see a mix between Edwina and the Prince in season 3, since the Queen announced it. A reconcile between Eloise and Theo, but maybe not only a little spark for the season to give Eloise something else besides her rebellious comments. As for Penelope and Colin ❓Idk❓ Penelope always been extremely jealous, mind you...(Marina and Cresita ) just being around Colin, just serves a problem for me she "sweet" but if you cross her the wrong way she'll literally take 🗡️🔫 you out, very vengeful.

I am so annoyed by all this 'pen betrayed her friend' narrative people are pushing out when their friendship is even more one sided than Pens "friendship" with colin. It's not even a friendship at this point. Eloise is so self-centered and thoughtless to those around her that she doesnt event realize her best friend's obvious love for her brother. Eloise needed to be taught there are consequences to her actions and that she is in fact extremely conceited and privileged. The one time she actually paid attention to Pen she figured out her identity, which strongly suggests she barely listened to her "best friend" before. Carrying someone around like a purse does not make a friend. It makes for a selfish and toxic relationship.
As for Marina, as much as i like her character, she has lied to and manipulated Colin willingly. Pen tried to dissuade her several times, up until the point she learned of their dumbass plot to elope. Marina paid for her actions as well.
With all that said, Penelope has so much more potential as a character, and i feel like they squandered it this season, not to mention all the Featherington crap they shoved in our faces.

I liked the first season better except for the way they handled the non-consensual scene with Daphne and Simon. Daphne is clearly in the wrong and while Simon betrayed her as well (he knew she didn't know what he was doing by pulling out), there should have been a lot more remorse on her part. At least in the second season Anthony and Kate are equals and their love scene is completely consensual.
I agree. I don't know how a love story is going to be created between Pen and Colin. I would like to see Colin and Marina together. As it seems the books will be less adaptation and more source material anything is possible. The exec's have even stated they may not follow ther order of the books. Which is good as Benedict doesn't have enough character development for 8 episodes. At least not now. Eloise may make a better S3. Although her character's cynicism annoys me. It's like okay already we get she's the rebel. Eloise is annoying, haha. Lastly, the acting in the first 2 episodes in S2 seem forced at times. As the episodes progressed the cast fell into a rhythm. The actor who portrays Colin may have described it best when they returned to the set. There's expectations, a bit surreal, and a very real awareness that S1 shielded then from. So far S1 is my fave.
If you have read the book Benedict would be next and then she put out Collins and Penelope and then eloise book but if you look you will see that Francesca got married before Collins and eloise but her husband died after 2 years so she from this book after eloise so I think the writer should bring Francesca book next book after Benedict but I wish they would or could do a season of daphne and Simon raising their children I know daphne and Simon are very much in love but I would like to see daphne and Simon having their ups and downs raising their children daphne love her children but she didn't know how hard it would be and Simon being a big pushover for his daughters
@@ronaldcox3137 Benedict would be next but Shonda Rhimes has stated they may not go in order and I hope they don't. Benedict is the least interesting character so far. His character even seems silly like he should stop sipping the tea.😏 Also, there seems to be addl mkt focus on the actors that play Eloise and Colin's which would have me wonder if that's the direction they will go for S3. Like I said the series is becoming less adaptive of the books and more the books just becoming source material. And agreed, a story with Daph and Simon would be nice but I wouldn't get my hopes up. I don't see Rege Jean Page stepping back when big movie roles have and will probably continue to come his way.
What did I miss! I’ve watched season 2 twice and I cannoootttt see what the big deal is with Kate and Anthony. Like I just don’t see it at all.

While I’m here, let me just explain how stupid Eloise🍐 plan was.
Eloise🍐 was accused by the Queen herself of being Whistledown and was telling Penelope🍑that she intended to LIE TO THE QUEEN👸🏽and pretend she was Whistledown🪶to protect her family. Penelope🍑writing about her visit to a political rally saved not only Eloise🍐but the entire Bridgerton🐝family from a ruin which they never would have been able to come back from. Just look at how the Queen👸🏽 wanted to shun Lady Mary🐦simply for leaving high society because she fell in love with & married someone outside of the ton, and that was nearly twenty years earlier!
Eloise🍐could not have kept up her lie and when the Queen👸🏽discovered that she wasn’t really Whistledown🪶, who knows how she might have reacted.
this is all taking place in the early 18th century and Eloise🍐would have lied to the reigning sovereign. Disloyalty to the crown 👑was considered a form of treason at the time. Not only could the Queen have written off the Bridgerton🐝family and ruined them forever, she could have decided to exile Eloise🍐from England🏴 for her audacity. And if Queen Charlotte🦚were feeling particularly vicious🐍, she could have decided to revert all the Bridgerton🐝family holdings, property and titles back to the crown👑as punishment, essentially stripping their family of everything and leaving them all destitute outcasts.
The idea of lying & intentionally making a fool of the reigning monarch during the 18th century is crazy & Eloise🍐was insane to even consider it. Penelope🍑 may have broken her friend’s trust but even Colin🗺️pointed out that Penelope🍑has sense when Eloise🍐does not. Pen🦢did the only thing she could to prevent Eloise🍐from doing something dangerously ruinous.
I believe when everything comes out, the Bridgerton🐝family will be stunned and shocked. They may not be happy with Penelope🍑but I think they will recognize that she was instrumental in protecting them from multiple disasters and if anyone is going to appreciate that, it’s Violet🕊️, Anthony⏱️and Kate🪷.

I really enjoyed your commentary. I must admit I did not feel any onscreen chemistry between Kate and Anthony. However, I thought the best scene between them is when no one showed up for the family's ball so they danced amongst themselves. When Kathony danced together their happiness radiated through the screen as did the joy of the entire cast.
can't agree. season 1 was a total cinge, but so is the show in general. season 2 was physically uneasy to watch. I couldn't stand the fake ass forced tension thr writers tried to create for kate and that dude
I root for the guy going for the girl 85% of the time and vice versa i want this girl pen to get her man. I can not stand marina i hope the kill her off next season. She was at one point gonna marry a guy and saddle him with some other mans kid. Now she hates her husband and her own child. They should have left her on the farm in the country, away from all the noble nonsense, but she is belongs in the 🗑. Penelope has not been good at the end of season 2 with what she did to her friend because she claims she did it to help her but really people are still gonna think she is whistledown and she screwed theo too..
I will never understand the- "It's-the-almost-sex-for-me", fans! I get that some people are into edging, but there's a fine line between the build up of sexual tension & being teased to boredom, okay! There were 15 irrelevant story lines that stole focus from the main couple, so the "build up" never got the attention it deserved. Kate was gorgeous & Anthony tried his best, but the existence of that alter scene killed any chance of redemption for the 2 of them as a couple, regardless of the intended results. The ending felt rushed, & the meat of the season was primarily given to the uniteresting Featheringtons storyline. The "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" sex scenes looked like they were shot with IPhone 4S. K & A's sexual chemistry somehow failed to match their on-screen chemistry, which wasn't that great to begin with. Pardon my French, but this season was a dry f$%k on a sandy beach. Sorry!
I couldn’t say it better, this season had some serious pacing issues, I was actually bored at times, Anthony’s character growth was well done, the flashbacks made you understand him better, Kate could have use some flashback too, she didn’t really grow in my opinion, and I’m not gonna lie, I found her to be a bit wooden at times, those intimate scenes between A&K were cut too short, the slow burn just fizzled out😩, and I also did not like that we got so far as a wedding scene with the wrong couple. Anthony told Kate what their future would look like if he marry Edwina yet Kate was willing to let her sister marry a man who had the hots for someone else? overall I enjoyed this season on a second viewing but no way was it better than season 1.
Am not looking forward to season 3 at all. Penelope is dishonest, deceitful and really doesn't deserve Colin, even when Colin is immature.

They chose colorblind casting so they could find the right girl for the job which is inspiring. In the book, Kate is white and the storyline exists that she is not in good standing because of Mary. So…I think the writers handled the story very well while acknowledging the actress actual racial background. They even changed her name to Kathani. This comment is off base.

@@g3vibes418 they changed it because of the actress they hired. In the book her last name is Sheffield. Kate Sheffield. They likely screen tested a lot of actresses with the man that plays Anthony ages ago. And Simon Ashley had amazing chemistry with him so they changed the backstory and background to fit. They gave the best actress the job and then changed the script to fit her. And then probably casted Edwina and Mary and then the Sheffields after they decided on who would be Kate because it is really important that they get Kate right.
The first season had a black male lead, so why not have an Indian female lead in the second season. And "they have no skills"? Kate is definitely shown as very capable.

Impossible Choices🧠
If anybody was being manipulative. it was Marina. Penelope repeatedly begged Marina not to deceive Colin. To not use him as a convenient alibi. It's irritating the simplification of Colin and Penelope life long relationship. Is summed up to jealousy on Penelope part and unrequited feeling.
"She cares for his happiness she cares for his soul".
Penelope’s motivations are not as selfish as some people would like to suggest. She didn’t save Colin so that he would turn around and be with her. She knew that wasn’t going to happen. She is focused on his feelings the whole time. “What of Colin?” she asks Marina when trying to talk her out of tricking him. After the news breaks, Penelope asks Eloise how Colin is doing. It was about saving him. Even later, when Colin admits feeling like a fool and Penelope begins to declare her feelings for him, she seems to do it out of empathy and not any sort of expectation that he will reciprocate.
By exposing Marina, Penelope put her entire family’s reputation at risk. Marina has been living in their household, so they are tainted by association. But that was a risk Penelope was willing to take. Thankfully, Colin’s sister Daphne has enough social power to redeem the Featherington name now that she is a Duchess. But Penelope took that chance for Colin’s happiness, not her own.
There are multiple factors to Penelope decision-making, and thought 💭 process
Penelope was forced to use Lady Whistledown to reveal the secret pregnancy. YES🧐, Marina was in a sympathetic situation because she believed the baby’s father abandoned her, but her actions were still wrong. Colin is a good person who doesn’t deserve to be manipulated, and divorce was not a practical option then.
Once marriage is done It can’t easily be undone. A quick Google search will tell you what 18 century divorces were like. Marina would’ve been paraded through the streets and publicly shamed while people threw stuff and spit at her called her horrible names.If Colin grew tired of her dutiful coexistence in their Shame of a marriage⛪️
Various attempts by Penelope to stop things another ways were unsuccessful. Then Marina convinced Colin to run away to Gretna Green🏴,Penelope did not want to have to. Choose between her, family, and the Bridgerton’s but she was left. No choice Penelope only exposed Marina as a last resort when time⌛️ran out.
Marina broke Penelope’s trust she has proven herself to be quite manipulative and did not bother to reciprocate the kindness Penelope extended to her in the beginning. Marina, proved that she can’t be trusted. When she belittled. and invalidated. Penelope‘s feelings and her relationship. to justify the immoral’s of her actions.
Penelope only do things that hurt people (against her will) when she is between a rock🪨and a hard place.
It was too late. In more ways than one ☝️ as I said, Time⌛️ran out.
It a choice between Marina & Colin. Even with out her Romantic 💝 feelings for Colin,he is her friend.I sure hope a friend would do everything in their power to help me in a situation like that .{Friend don't let friend get used and manipulated} Even more it would have been different if Colin was marrying Marina knowing everything. He didn't He was being tricked by someone he was infatuated😍with.
Marina being pregnant with child was all she needed at her disposal to trap 🪤 Colin if he wished to dissolve there engagement 💍Quietly😶of his own accord there’s no DNA 🧬 test to vindicate him it could’ve been turned into a bigger messier drawn out situation. That could’ve ruined his family his sisters and their prospects. Whistledown, ended all the (WHAT IF’s) when she gave Colin an unimpeachable Defense. when she said Marina was already with child before she stepped foot into Grosvenor Square. 1813
Pen🪶was trying to protect Marina. She was trying to keep her secret.🤐Penelope tried everything else before outing Marina. It was either that or let Colin, someone she loves💘and care about suffer💔alongside her best-friend and the whole Bridgerton brood, who have loved her better than her own family.
Marina being pregnant has nothing to do with Colin. It’s not Colin's fault, Why ? did he deserve to be manipulated and deceived into a loveless marriage?
What were Colin’s crimes to deserve a life of pleasant indifference being born a MAN?
To an establishment, he too, has no control of ! He did not impregnate her. she is not his Responsibility.
When Colin ask her if her feelings were false she confessed, and said (YES)✅she just wanted his Money💰 and his Name📇 if she really did love❤️Colin and wants to be with him, he would’ve married her still. even with the truth out there. Offer her his family protection, live away from society live away from his family.Marina straight up, confessed that she doesn’t even like him on a personal level she hold him in high esteem, as a member of the Male gender, nothing more nothing less. So he chose to take his leave of her and it was his choice. The choice she tried to deny him.
