    Glad to see you have gone from vegetarian to vegan. You didn't mention eating a raw plant food diet here. I noticed you wrote a cookbook for a raw diet. Has this also passed, for you, or do you still encourage people to eat raw, or was the cookbook just written for a certain subset of individuals? I am curious which type of diet you currently promote as optimal.

      Hello. I have seen a talk that Brenda gave in 2018, in which she taught the benefits of consuming some cooked foods. But based on the content I've seen, I think she eats mostly raw foods.
      Greetings!

    its frustrating that now I have to soak and dehydrate nuts...I dont have the time or a dehydrator or the money to do that

  • @surfstev
    @surfstev 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Is there any actual data showing the effects of soaking nuts and seeds and them dehydrating them? I gave soaking nuts for a day or two a try for several weeks and they didn't seem to agree with me. Seems like drying them for the second time would only be adding another process to them and would degrade their benefit. Any truth to my suspicions or is there some magical benefit to drying them that I am not aware of? It would make them taste better though. Why does she do such large batches? I tried sprouting almonds that I bought from Walmart and they refused to sprout;; nuts like Great Value brand and Fishers must be pasteurized. I ordered some sproutable ones but never followed through and still have them.

      Usually foods sold in larger quantities are much cheaper per unit. What's available in stores are either picked early for shipping or have been sitting around in storage for awhile. Being an RD, Ms. Davis probably knows the growing seasons for different foods and buys her nuts/seeds in bulk from a reputable source at those times. Soaking, dehydrating, and freezing help to prevent them from going rancid not because it's nutritionally better.
      Before refrigeration and artificial preservatives were invented, everyone used different methods (drying, smoking, canning, salting, etc) to preserve foods past their growth season. Before cheap worldwide transportation existed, everyone ate what was locally grown in season or personally preserved.
      Perhaps the nuts that didn't agree with you were old or had some non-beneficial microorganisms on them.

    Why do you soak nuts and seeds and then dehydrate them?

    • @Falafelzebub
      @Falafelzebub 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Soaking removes the phytates, and dehydrating them keeps them from going sour after they are soaked.

    LOL....this is just a rehash of Brenda's standard dietary advice.
    Where's the disease fighting focus?
    Let's pretend disease-fighting means disease exists already in a subject.
    What's the best way to fight the disease?
    how about get out of the body's way. allow it time and energy to counter pathogens and inflammation.
    This isn't a nutritional issue.
    It's a full or relative fasting issue.
    What does every animal apart from humans do when it gets sick? it rests, goes off its food, and eats leafy green stuff.

    So very, very, very wrong, except for the part about sugar. Plants are adapted to resist bugs and animals that will eat them. There are loads of things in plants that are anti nutrients, especially whole grains. However, fruits are the exception. Animals are needed to eat fruits to spread their seeds and in those cases, the seeds are expelled quickly. Grains are the perfect way to gain weight. They feed cows, pigs, chickens loads of grains to fatten them up. All vitamins that are in vegetables are in animal protein. There are enzymes and vitamins you cannot get in plant food that are only in animal protein. Soy is one of the worst plants to eat.

    • @jordandthornburg
      @jordandthornburg 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Veravanwhoop people can handle the anti nutrients. You are actually incorrect. The healthiest populations all eat abundant plant foods

      Inuits, meat eaters. Masai, mostly meat eaters. Native Americans were nomadic. They didn’t have time to plant and mostly ate the buffalo. Most commercial vegetables are NOT the same as they use to be and have been grossly modified to the point where they have no nutrition. Vegans have a strange aggressive agenda. Plowing kills animals too.

    • @JackR772
      @JackR772 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Veravanwhoop What has anything you have said got to do with the video? Great, innuits and masai only eat meat, how long do they live? Animals die when fields are ploughed, so what? Oh you think everybody that watches these videos are vegan, even though you aren’t vegan but you are watching it. Dumb ass.

    • @helicart

      Do some research on it. I thought soy was bad too until I studied it for myself. What in particular do you think is wrong with it? The phyto-estrogen in it? Beer has more phyto-estrogen than soy and what man complains that beer makes him have man boobs? Also, the phyto-estrogen in soy binds to the beta cell receptors, not the alpha. Now, the estrogen in milk is a killer. It is the real thing and attaches to the alpha receptors.

    • @chronos401
      @chronos401 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been to Okinawa and its parent country Japan a few times. Each trip was at least a week long. The local people there do eat soy frequently. It's an important source of protein for them. I didn't pay attention to how many servings everyone ate per day.
      Japan is very, very picky on its soybean suppliers. They only accept certain varieties. They do not grow domestically or import GMO ones.

      The Okinawans also eat a lot of pork. Vegans don't like to talk about that. They also eat very little soy products.
