For those wondering why this game is so weird, director Keita Takahashi loves kids and he wanted to create a game to mimic their imagination and also appeal to the way they see the world. Takahashi is just a very wholesome guy, one of his greatest goals is to design a playground. That's just what he wants to do.
I was about to say, this is so happy and fluffy. This is like a playable version of the Teletubbies or Peppa Pig, but less stupid and just genuinely wholesome. The atmosphere really carries through
ive left similar comments on the full VODs, but theres a lovely article floating around about Wattam and its relationship to various lines of ecological thought. its explorations of natural cycles, the notion of collapsing hierarchies of objects and approaching a rock as you would a spoon or a tree or a toilet, and so on. definitely more to unpack than just the playground line that everybody tends to float w/r/t takahashi
@@vilegrog I thought the reason it didn't go through was because of a lack of funding, I highly doubt that he'd submit an actively dangerous playground for submission and then just give up after it was rejected.

It was strange but so cute, got really sad when they stopped giving it maintenance with the newer OS:s making them terminate that game… either way it’s fun to see he’s still making games!
It reminds me of something akin to teletubbies, but actually good. It's very safe fun. There's never a sense of danger. Just the ability to make funny shapes do silly things. Stuff like this is a good way for a kid to explore. It reminds me of Mario 64 when I was young. It was fun to just run around and do things.
