  • In this episode we chat to Don O' Leary. Don is Director of Cork Life Centre, an informal education centre for young people who did not fit the rigid mainstream education system. Don has a republican background and here he opens up about spending time inside as a political prisoner before Open University helped him to rebuild his life.

I wish to jasus There was a " Don" when when my sons were growing up, might have saved them a whole lot of heartache and less prison time! I knew of the life centre when I worked in Cork, he's very well respected. Well done lads you've got some amazing speakers on yer podcast. Keep up the good work, you sure are giving back.

Brilliant podcast! Well done! #unteachables. Every time Don speaks there's something to learn. I'm a past student of the CLC and to this day I'm welcomed each and every time as it remains a family. The CLC set me down the right path, made me feel I could be a somebody and more importantly impact others life's positively.
I found in the centre the thing that was prevalent there was not only respect but empathy, the staff and students there were far more personable than your day to day life. Absolute legends the lot of them.

Don is such an inspiration! As a social care worker I worked with a young person who went to the life Center around the time Don started there. I always remember that Don had endless patience, respect and the door was never shut. He has helped so many young people and it’s so vital that the CLC continues to be funded.

    Another Great Podcast Lads!
Don demonstrated a clear understanding of young people's needs, it's sad that the work he does at the Life Centre, is not adequately resourced.
In my opinion Knocknaheeny will always be labelled as a disadvantaged community, I moved in with my Family in 1974, the turnover of families coming and going in that period is high enough. Is there real political will, for meaningful change for working class communities and the people who live in them?
Keep Up the Good Work Towards Improving Young People's Access to Opportunities etc.
