Thanks for sharing your experience. I did a lot of research into this condition when creating my TH-cam video and it’s definitely a topic that should have more awareness!
I'm 58 and had Two pulmonary embolism !! Scary for sure. Respiratory Failure left me disabled and ended my 37 year career in nursing. I miss that so much.
Hi there, lovely to hear your story. A fellow survivor of 4 D.V.T's in ankles (both either side) 2 femoral DVT's (either side years between both) and 1 massive pulmonary embolism requiring physio of chest at home for almost 2 years...I'm extremely lucky to be alive...all of us here, are very lucky to be alive...So God bless all of us!
My story is similar. In October to November, I was going on business trips in which I drove to. It’s a 6 hour drive each way, and only got out to walk once about 4.5 hours into the drive. One day at the hotel, I got out of bed and my left calf was painful. I thought it was a muscle strain from weight training. The calf pain lasted 2 weeks. Once the calf pain subsided, I noticed that I was getting out of breath with an elevated heart rate when walking up stairs and doing certain weight training exercises. This persisted for 5 weeks, and got worse on week 5, where just walking caused severe shortness of breath and an elevated heart rate of 145 BPM. I had been to 5 doctors over this time. All said it was my asthma. Yet my lungs were clear sounding and no medication for asthma helped. I had no chest or back pain at all. I regret not telling them about my calf pain 5 weeks before. Finally my wife took me to the ER, they did a CT scan with contrast of my lungs, and found extensive clots in my lungs. I was in the ICU for 2 days on heparin. I was then transferred out of the ICU for 1 day, was put on Eliquis, then discharged. This was 2 weeks ago. I feel so much better. No more shortness of breath or elevated heart rate. I have a hematologist appointment this week. My father has a genetic blood clotting factor, prothrombin, along with a lupus anticoagulant antibody. He had the same 15 years ago, and was placed on Warfarin then and has been clot free ever since. I have yet to resume weight training. I will once i get medical clearance. Meanwhile, I do walk for 30-45 minutes a day, either outside, weather permitting, or on my treadmill. Occasionally, I do get a little lightheaded, it’s not all day or every day, but it is noticeable. Good luck to you and all who have had this.
my sister just got diognosed with multiple clots in her lungs.from what i hered, she will be realeased within a few days from now.i have been really nervous for her. reading your comment is a big help for me, thanks.
I'm 33 and had a fracture in my knee after an accident... This later was diagnosed as DVT followed by PE... Was in the hospital for a week.. one of the worst years in my life
Firstly thank you for your detailed description of having a DVT and a PE. We are both lucky survivors. Very lucky. Secondly your description of how you were treated by the NHS on your admission to hospital demonstrates the deplorable state the NHS is in. You were lucky to survive the delays in having a scan. Your symptoms should have raised a big red flag for any of the doctors who you met and you should have received a scan within an hour of arriving at that hospital. But the main thing is you survived the terrible delays caused by the NHS in diagnosing your serious condition. In fact it’s a miracle you survived those delays. Of course I am now on anti coagulants for the rest of my life. You are quite right to state that the body can dissolve existing blood clots using its own defence system BUT not always. Your anti coagulants should keep you safe from having more blood clots but your body may not be able to remove all the blood clots on your lungs. If you find after 6 months that you are breathless my advice is that you to a doctor who knows what he’s doing and arrange for another scan on your lungs. If the clots have not dissolved you may be looking at long term problems including heart problems. There are ways of removing the clots on your lungs. The best way is to have a catheter put in your arm or groin. A tube is passed through your veins/arteries to reach the offending clots and clot busting drugs target the clots and dissolve them immediately. The USA now have a procedure whereby the tube enters your lungs and simply hoovers out the blood clots. I’m not trying to worry you because your blood clots may indeed dissolve naturally. Mine haven’t dissolved and they have seriously restricted my life style. I still get very breathless. I am in the process of having another scan on my lungs and heart. If the clots are still on my lungs I will pursue the catheter tube route. I am much older than you and this means you should be fine but if after six months you find you get out of breath my advice is to have another scan. Best of luck. I hope we both come out of this ok. Being so young means you should be fine. But insist on another scan if problems persist. This condition is responsible for many hundreds of thousands of deaths every year and doctors in the U.K. should know better.
So happy all of this still ended up going relatively well, all things considered. I truly hope this will be it and you'll start feeling better now, Scott. Don't worry about YT. I really hate the idea that forcing yourself to do these efforts because of YT may have somehow worsened things... :/ Whenever you feel up to it a simple Q&A or chat stream is perfectly fine and we'll be so chuffed to have you back with us.
Good to hear the full story and so glad you're getting better. There's never a good time to be rushed to hospital but now is simply the worst time of all. Keep it going ....
I had a “Saddle Pulmonary Embolism” just last month. A ton of clots in both lungs. I was not able to breathe at work in the break room and ended up passing out and falling hard to the ground (ended up hitting my head and needing stitches). Was rushed to the hospital and they immediately put me into surgery for a thrombectomy. I’m thankful to be alive and am starting to eat healthier and exercise. I do not want to take my health for granted anymore. Glad to hear you’re doing better man.
Such a sudden and painful stress to have to go through. So glad you made the decision to get out in the snow all the way to Taunton, and an incredible job from the NHS to get the problem diagnosed - and sounds like the medication is doing a good job🤞. Wishing you sustained and rapid recovery and a much better final 10/12ths of 2021 💪💯
Smh... My girlfriend passed away from this in October on the 23rd... I should have pushed her to go get a check up when she was telling me her symptoms and all...
@@BehindtheKOM I'm getting through it, just wish I had done something before it was too late... smh soo many problems now because her family wasn't the best and they've taken control of all her assets... like everything...
In a situation this morning( sat15 april). Went out for a tester ride while starting course of steroids and brown inhaler. Felt off it while riding in Tenerife for 2 weeks. While back did a group 100 miler into yorkshire dales from leeds and back. On front all ride but struggled breathing. Following week(good friday) another group 100. Trying to give it the beans and managed 1/4 ride. Rest of ride was very alarming. I was getting dragged round remainder of ride by caring fellow riders. Very steep hills 9500 ft total climbing proper iron lung action up every slope. On reflection felt baseline exhaustion for months. Doctors appointment 3 days ago consisted of me giving general vague explainations of many thoughts ,body feelings etc. She said any calf swelling or discomfort. I said ive had a slight pull in my calf for about a week but its worn off. She felt my calfs and they looked equal proportion. She waffled on about some technical terms that went over my head. Just given bloods and chest xrays and go back for further discussion with doc and asthma nurse next week. Its just after this mornings cycling atempt ive googled DVT and then youtube brought me to your video. I can still feel some slight tug in calf and being pathetically breathless is cracking me up….your film definitely sheds light on life threatening situation, to not beat oneself up, pause and think sensibly.
Glad to hear you’re on the mend Scott! Thanks for the very detailed video on this, good to know what the warning signs were. I’m very quick to associate any sort of pain with a pulled muscle so maybe I’ll be more sensible going forward 🙂
I had a PE 25 days ago. The pain just to breath was a nightmare. I'm on blood thinners for a year. I don't sleep through the night anymore, I think it's the stress from the PE. Very happy to hear and see your doing well
Hi I just got diagnosed multipled PE blood thinners from today. How are you getting on. Did they help? Did they ease symptoms? Are you still taking the.
Hi Scott, I had a similar experience around seven years ago now. Was working out reqular at the gym and was really fit, stopped going for a few weeks then BAM a DVT in the leg and multiple blood clotts traveled into the lungs resulting in Pulmonary Embolism. Anyway you know the rest, the excruciating pain and the massive struggle fighting to get another breath. Like myself you are a survivor, just wanted to say take care keep on being mobile, go steady and don't hesitate to call your GP or hospital consultant should you have any concerns or worries at all. Things get easier and better. I am fully recovered now, and I would just like to send out my best wishes to you in your recovery for good health, wellness, and happiness. Be mindful and enjoy the things that you enjoy the most, go steady and take good care. Like many you are a survivor ☺️. Best wishes again. Michael.
Thank you, Michael! Really appreciate you taking the time to write this. It really does help to know there are people like you out there that have been through it and recovered well and I'm sure people commmenting with the same issues we had will be relived to read your comment too. Thanks again, Scott
I recently got acute pulmonary embolism and they have me on eliquis but I get really bad palpitations and shortness of breath and shock if I recover from this will I be on blood thinners forever? And what blood thinners where good for you? If you don't mind me ask?
@@lilyherrera9301 Hello Lily, your GP or hospital consultant should have discussed your medication with you. I am on Warfarin medication for life as I sufferd with multiple blood clotts on the lungs resulting in pulmonary embolism. You WILL make recovery and things will get very much easier for you don't hesitate to get in touch with your GP or hospital consultant Lily if you have any concerns or worries and ask for a medication review because of your condition with the Pulmonary Embolism. Write down any questions you wish to discuss with your GP or consultant. Your breathing will improve with your recovery. Go steady best wishes. Michael.
Wow similar story to what happened to a work colleague last September. Very lucky Scott. Speedy recovery and a big thanks to the NHS staff and especially Nat.
Wow, what a backstory! Johanna had a DVT in Feb 2022 and went onto the same meds. She was taken to hospital in Berlin after being taken off the flight on the way home from the US. Thankfully, they caught it in time before it travelled anywhere dangerous. Really insightful video, thanks for sharing. I came here to look for your bike and youtube setup video, but ended up having my morning coffee watching this 😂 Great work finding your way back to fitness. You're an inspiration 🙌
In a weird way ( because of your bad news) the best and most real video you have done to date! Feel like I know you for real now...good luck mate and hope your back to normal before you know it!
Get well soon, a few of us on the rivaroxaban now, post my stroke I got the DVT in the left leg and PE's on the lungs, as you say the clots take up to 6 months to dissipate. Maybe we should start a DVT or PE team on zwift.
Ooo mate, glad to see you ok 👌 sounded like scary times forsure, glad you got sorted and great to see you looking well, Just take the time to recover now and then you can come back with a bang 🔥💪🦸 Hope Nat is well too! Wishing u all the best 👑🧡👑
So pleased you explained the experience. Almost a carbon copy of mine. Diagnosed 14.1.22. I described the sharp pain as a boyonet stabbing me in much the same place as yours. I had a week of of coughing up very old brown blood and then a clot 6" long b 2" wide. I don't think it was the only one. No more blood after 3 days of that. Breathing has improved enormously. My left leg is still sore to the touch but deflating slowly. On the same meds as you. I have never had a panic attack before. It frightened me so much. I pushed for oramorph and diazapan to help control the panic attacks. But was given propranolol 40 mg which worked. One respiratory consultant said my vocal chords were closing. Therefore stopping me breathing. He later sent a physio to see me. To help with the panic attacks! I'm 68 and lucky to be still here. My only advice is. Keep pushing to be heard. I had several consultants see me. Only the last one sent me for a pe CT scan.
Glad to hear you caught it before it could have been a lot worse, Scott! I guess this is quite a poignant video too, as you may well have collected a vast number of subscribers during your Movember vids... and this is another great example of looking after your health and checking out anything out of the ordinary! 👍 Get well soon, and don't eat too many creme eggs at once!
Welcome to clot club! Glad you're still with us mate. :D The whole "it's not a clot" thing is familiar. When I had my first DVT it took 4 _months_ for it to be diagnosed. Turned out to be a huge clot in my femoral vein. Done the whole self-injection with Clexane/heparin thing then was on warfarin (an anticoagulant) for 10 years. But warfarin is a PITA with regular blood tests needed so I got changed to rivaroxaban/Xarelto. As I've had at least two clots, I'm on it for life. =)
I just started going through this. 2 clots in the lungs. Didn't have any pain only short of breath. But I'm sedentary and 250 pounds overweight. Tore the ligaments in my knee 14 years ago and then had a leg infection in 2015. Had surgery but still sedentary unable to walk or stand more than a few minutes or walk very far. I just got prescribed xeralto 2x a day and in about 5 days i switch to once a day 4 life. They gave me blood pressure medication the last few weeks. But i stopped taking it today. Wasn't liking the way it was making me feel. Did you get prescribed blood pressure medication. The doctors said my heart was pumping strong. So gonna see how it goes in the next few days. I've never been a pill taker so it's so hard to get used to taking these medications. Maybe it will be easier when I only have to take my xeralto once a day. What time of day do you feel works best for you. Mornings or evenings. Thx for sharing your experience.
@@THERIDESHAREMINUTE I take my Rivaroxaban (Xarelto) in the evening when I have my dinner, along with the other pills I take (supplements rather than meds as such). Been on it for a couple of years now, and it's a lot easier than the warfarin I was on for the previous 10 years, as that was highly affected by whatever I ate
Get well soon mate! Hope you get off the medication soon, it can knock you around a bit. Unfortunately I've had too much experience with ct scans, xrays and catheters, had 2 in at the same time a couple of times even. Hospital is good in that you feel looked after, but the change in shifts causes some issues with communication. As you found out, sometimes you need to inquire or you fall through the cracks.
Thank you so much for this explanation it helped so much. My son at 22 years old experienced this and we have no clue how. He is getting discharged today. It good to know your experience because it sets us at ease
My God, Scott. I am so thankful that you are still with us. I would have done the same thing, just passed it off as a pulled something or other. I know you had been saying that you were starting to feeling better but I didn't know what had happened. If you need any help, please let me know. Coach Morgan said she's also a doctor. Hugs!
So many people (me too!) with PEs! Mine was a couple of weeks ago. Mine problems started 4 months ago when I broke 5 ribs in a skiing accident. Like you, I first noticed lung/heart problems when I was bike racing (Zwift) and my numbers just weren't good enough. I had slipped from cat C before breaking my ribs down to cat D.
Hi Scott. It sounds like it was an agonising and very traumatic experience, and it's great that you're on the mend. I've luckily never had a blood clot but a few years ago had a medical issue/ hospital stay from which I very nearly didn't make it, with excruciating ongoing pain, so I can totally relate to your experience. It was a really nice surprise when you suddenly appeared in the chat on Phill's ride this morning, and thanks for this video to explain the situation. Hope Nat has recovered, she must have been so worried and then having to do those drives on dark/ icy roads. All the best for a continued good recovery, and look forward to more YT content whenever you feel up to it, appreciate how much time and effort you put into it. One more thing (!) - before last weekend you were though still sprinting twice what I can do, even with your blood clot!!
Jeeh, Scott, what a scary very unpleasant experience, for you in the first place but also for Nat. At those times it is so important to be close to your loved one, isn't it. Now she had to stay outside. So good it ended rather well. And during the waiting and inquieries you had this pain and the breathing problems all the time? I didn't understand this bit. Or did the blood thinners take off some pressure or anything. You know, Sunday, the week before my brother had an aneurysma that was threatening to break so he was had a emergency surgery.. It went well in the end. But hé got the surgery during your weekly stream. I was really very grateful to you the stream got my mind off iit a bit. And a week later you had this yourself Please get better soon. And do not worry too much if you don't manage to get a stream out every weekend. Everyone will understand you don't have a full production team behind you and don't manage to deliver sometimes. Take it easy and take the time to fully recover.Big hug to you and Nat.
Hearing your experience was familiar and different than my past 4 week DVT and pulmonary thrombosis. Biker here too, and an unusual tightness in the calf muscle and behind the knee had me visit a clinic because it just didn’t feel like a muscle ‘pull.’ Fortunately I was sent over to the hospital a minute away and had blood tests and a CT scan, results and doctor’s consultation within a couple hours (I’m in Japan with national health). They wanted me admitted for a 2-week stay right then. It was hard for me to understand this was serious - even though I have a medical background - I didn’t feel bad except the leg and being ill was just something that was very different for me. Not much the hospital could really do except monitor my condition. So, against the doctor’s advice I checked myself out for home care with my wife. Oral blood thinner and pain medication. I couldn’t walk for a week and even laying down with the leg up was painful. It was a gradual recovery and day-by-day. My 3-week follow-up CT Scan showed the blood clots in the lungs completely cleared. The leg is still tight and with some swelling and pain, but showing improvement enough I’m doing short walks and slow bike rides to get my blood moving. They really thought I could die, and one of the reasons (besides the comfort level, positive environment for recovery, aware how to take care of myself) for being at home was that my wife couldn’t visit me in hospital (coronavirus protocol) and wanted to be with me rather than a ‘phone call.’ I’m in my late 60s, good ‘normal’ blood oxygen levels, bpm at rest in the 40-50 range, BP low, and general good health. We are still not sure why this happened; a couple difficult long 10+ hours car drives I had last month, secondary ‘long’ symptom of Coronavirus I had last year, or something else? Genetics Marker test rules that out. It is a mystery.
Hi fella, I was diagnosed with COPD (Emphysema) in 2008, I can relate to everything you said, if you feel that I can be any help getting back on it, don't hesitate to get in touch 👍
Glad to see you are ok, hopefully be back to full strength in no time! A friend had this too very recently, had to call the paramedics because he couldn’t breath he has been off work for 3 months and Drs told him he had sticky blood 🤔 on blood thinners for rest of his life!
Glad you're doing better 👍 A cycling friend of ours has just had the exact same thing. She'd been on a big road trip here in Aus and they think the immobility set hers off 🙈 Speedy recovery. Take care 🧡
Back in 3-23 I was taking by ambulance to hospital cause I could't breath. After a CT scan I have numerous blot clts in my lungs . Stayed in hospital for 5 days in ICU. Was able to remove about 10 clots. Couldn't get all of them. Now I am on oxygen 24/7.Still having breathing problems.
Get well soon Scott! good to hear you are on the mend. on a positive note i got my little KOMER mug 😁 Love it! PS, you have the perfect excuse for @BulletBale beating you in the crit series, I feel a rematch coming on when you're back to full fitness 💪
Thank you for sharing your story! Just today was diagnosed with clot and given meds … such a relief to hear someone story and gotten better. Any updated video on this please.
Hey... firstly sorry to hear that but pleased you are on the meds. Lot's of horror stories since having gone through this with people not being so lucky with it. I have just had an Echocardiogram yesterday so will definetly make an update video soon :-)
I was 23 years old. I had an emergency C-section and 7 weeks later I started experiencing extreme pain , couldn't breathe , couldn't even lay down. They thought I had pulled a muscle in my chest but after I came back to the hospital a second time , they found it was a PE. I was in Intensive Care for 13 days on IV heparin. Then for 6 months I had to get Coumadin treatments and lovenix injections. It was by far the scariest time of my life. They said they had never seen a patient as young as me with a PE.
All the best with your recovery and hopefully see you back in the c races soon. Oh it's Chris swan btw on Mrs you tube account (follow you on zwift) still want to see this prodigy crit race haha
I just got out of hospital after 5 days, I had submissive PEs in both lungs with heart strain and dilation on my CT :( on thinners now but I'm shattered and still short of breath:( I'm 22 and normally run 4 miles every day so I'm crushed :( I hope I can get back to being me with no long term heart issues I'm so scared
Oh no... I'm so sorry to hear you've had to go through that. I know we're all different but the shortness of breath did last a while so don't panic if that's the same, weather was cold in Feb for mine so a snood helped once I could get out walking. I've only just started consistently training on the bike and the fitness is coming back quickly, I'm sure with your age and level of fitness you will be back at it in no time. Main thing is not to stress about it... there's so many people in the same boat so don't feel you're alone, you can message me directly on instagram (@KOMhunt.tv) if you have any questions :-)
Hey Scott! So the up side... this means the (I think it was) 5-1 drumming from bullet has even more controversy...?! Does it get scratched? Is it now 0-0..??? Or do we keep it as it is?? But on a serious note, really good to see you up and at it (the camera) again and very much on the mend! 💪👍 Chapeau to Nat too! 👍
Good to see you back on YT. Take your time with the recovery. Maybe I'm being over suspicious but that story is a very over elaborate excuse to explain how Bullet dropped you on that climb.
Hi, I've had exactly the same problems, chest/rib pain in left lung last November, coincided with knee popping on a jog few days earlier and/or covid booster. Been on anticoagulant medication since and my lungs have struggled when doing hard cycling efforts since. It's disappointing as I love tackling the steep Yorkshire hills round my way. Take care of yourself. 👍
Lost me at “young and good looking”. Got me back at “stink”. Seriously. Sara and I wish you all the best, explains a lot I guess. Bullet 4 tech malfunction 0 and all. No stop, seriously.......That must have been seriously concerning. Funny how we can reconcile things from “it’ll be all, right”, to the oh my god it isn’t mode. So glad so far so good and Sara and I wish you a speedy and progressive recovery. ❤️ ps if you want a cat c race this week let me know.... I’m struggling with victims....
Useful video many moons later had I watched this would have prevented mine. I am in hospital Day 4 after being dead for 60secs due to embolism. This is important information.
I really wish you didn’t have to leave a comment like this and that you saw the vid earlier. Sorry you’ve had to go through it… how are you feeling now? When will they let you go home?
Haha he doesn’t race much but was definitely an A! Haha, last thing he shouted as I was getting wheeled away was I’m coming for those KOMs whilst you on the ward 😂 will try and find out who he was
Bro u are the ideal patient lol....back when i was an intern i had a guy that almost punched me coz i had failed to put an iv cannula in the first attempt lol. I'm glad u got diagnosed in time and u are doing well....PE is dangerous and is notoriously difficult to diagnose especially in this pandemic as the health infrastructure is highly burdened in most countries. U have to wait like 3-4 hours just to get a CT or blood work done and that can be bad in PE.
Hehe thanks for that… they were top guys and yeah everyone look super tired from extra work. Still feeling lucky with it all really. Since heard a few horror stories from friends 👍 thanks for taking the time to comment 👍
I waited 5 hours with bilateral clots... as soon as they saw my D dimer was raised was rushed to recuss and CT... tbf tho I was compensating so well as us fit people do so was put on low priority to be seen!! Thank goodness I didn't go into Cardiac arrest while waiting
I went to ER on May 18th. I was tested positive for Covid and Pneumonia. However, the Dr discharged me without medication the next day to self isolate and rest at home. I thought it was strange as I told the Dr that I was coughing up blood and suffer shortness of breath. He said to monitor my situation and call 911 or come back to ER if my situation is not improving. I continue coughing up blood and suffer shortness of breath for the next 2 weeks. I went back to ER on May 31st. This time the Dr said I had developed Pulmonary Embolism. Now I am on 20mg Rivaroxaban Xeralto blood thinner, once a day for 3 months.
Must have been awful for you. Good that you’ve got a diagnosis and treatment and fingers crossed you recover soon. PS hope you got that doctor to subscribe (the Zwifting one)
I'm taking this as good news as it could of been worse, hope these messages sort you out soon and your back to making mad videos😁 I know what you mean about feeling like you are peeing yourself! I had the same die injected for my mri although I actually apologised to the person doing my scan for peeing on them even though I hadn't 🤣🙈 such a weird feeling. Get well soon mate👍
Hey I just survived too. First I had covid on Thanksgiving, then cat scan showed covid pneumonia after quarantine and then the pain came back and everyone was telling me to go see someone. Well I did that's when they found blood clots in both lungs with the right side hurting the most(gasping for breath over the shortest walk). I had a cathador operation awake they put a tube in my leg and then put a smaller tube in that tube from my thigh to the top of my lung and put a filter in. They gave me blood thinner and medicine to help break the clots for 3 days they took the tubes out 4 days later and 2 more days of tests and I was finally walking around without hyperventilating. And now i am on the long recovery from Pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung) I cant believe you were riding your bike! And I couldnt eat much either just drinking water and everytime I ran out of water I had to walk 20 feet and I've never breathed so hard for that short of a distance.
Dude, sorry I have only just seent this. Thank you for sharing your story here. I know from some messages I've had that these comments really do help. How are you doing at the moment?
@@BehindtheKOM I am doing way better. Slowly but surely getting my muscles back and I can breath normal again. On blood thinners for 6 months depending on my next check up.
Glad your on the mend Scott. I wonder if its due to sitting, editing videos, and the like for long hours. I wake up call to take it easier on the youtube front for a while. And when you do come back dont be hitting crit city every night lol.. much love to you. Get well soon.
I liked the stubble! 😂👌 Sounds like you've been through it! So glad you got sorted and now to rest and relax and get well on the road to recovery!! No doubt Nats epic baking helps! 👍 Take care of yourself 🧡
jaysus Scott. thats quite a time you and nat have had. glad you're on the mend. cauliflower cheese for lunch in hospital would give anyone clotted lungs 😜. initially i thought this was a rouse to 1 up phil lovett's medical woes, but clearly you kom'd him easy. take care, and take it easy.
Watching cause my 18 year old sister was diagnosed with this today and has blood clots in both her lungs and her left leg… I hope she does ok like you did 🙏🏼 she will be in hospital all weekend at least and they are watching her heart now
Initially they said to me it was 6 months prescription but then they said they were keeping me on it indefinitely back in 2018 at my outpatients appointment.
I'm 26 and have multiple PEs right now. They were caught fairly early since my PCP/GP was incredibly attentive to and thorough with my symptoms. It might have been caused by my OCP and/or being immobile due to unemployment/depression but it's hard to say. I have other severe symptoms too that seem unrelated to the PEs.
So much of this sounds familiar. Either the DVT was caused by the achilles rupture or i was "lucky" to rupture the achilles to spot an underlying issue. Thank god for Apixaban, hopefully 6 months on that and I'll be back to normal
I've the exact symptoms since a while I don't know how to deal with it the ER thought it was an anxiety attack (I am about your age, 33) last time, but that rib thing like you have a heavy weight on it and that brutal shortness of breath nobody can't quite describe it until they have it thanks for the video, my friend is joking around about it but it's getting worse. Been weeks. No stabbing pain anymore just a fucking heavy weight with a knot near the heart/upper left lung. it encourages me to go again to the ER Ps : I'm not a cyclist (more of a bouldering guy 😅) I just hope you got better thanks again for the video
Fixed gear cyclists from America. I got diagnosed with DVT and am maybe thinking I may have had PE months ago since I had pain in my back near my lungs.
Same here! Told first doctor it felt like pulled muscle then it moved so maybe start of pneumonia but pain in front of shoulder bad. Was told it was muscular take pain relief but could go back? No sleep for pain so back to another doc who sent me straight to hospital. Friend took me and I was triaged very very quickly and sent to next section. After hours waiting friend enquired how much longer as I was anxious about daughter with heart failure at home. Panic stations, then two docs apologised, given injection and xray etc told to return next day for scan -result 4clots in lower lobe and 3 at top. Tabs worked fine until I forgot to take several, up to hospital, triage fine then long wait, told to go to another area which was very long walk, sat for 2 hours then blood taken. Was told it would take several more hours so left and increase dosage until pain gone then decreased and okay. (no apology this time). Come the time for 2nd vaccine, checked it was okay to take it - wrong! Pain back so self medicated 3days then better and about week later coughed up clot. Think anyone on anticoagulants should not be given vaccine never mind someone over 70.
Oh my... what a story and so sorry to hear what you've been thtough! So what's happened now after you coughed up that last clot? Have you been back for more scans. Hoping you're well on the road to recovery now
@@BehindtheKOM Hi, thanks and yes I am okay but didn't go back to any medics as have very little faith in them now plus as sole carer for my daughter I'm better staying home. Also new variant on increase here so can't take her with me to that environment.
I was having these panic attacks not know I had a blood clot in my lung, I just found out saterday and I just released from the hospital last night, it's scary and terrifying, I'm at work now just hoping these blood thinners work
This is my exact story!!! Down to the walking issues to the ECG and back tho I did have a CT over night but the wait was ages because again I'm young and fit and was compensating well, when they saw my scan they were supprised I was standing....
I recently went through something very similar, I’m only day 3 into recovery. I’m also a cyclist too Any update on your recovery, what worked for you, what didn’t, how long etc. I know that will be different for me and others but a ‘benchmark’ something to work towards would be helpful. Glad to see you are recovering.
Sorry to hear this, Peter. How are you feeling now? I've just had a Echocardiogram yesterday so will give a better video update when I hear back. To be honest it was 6-7 months before I got back into some consistent training. I tried to get back to it too soon and struggled quite a bit. I was having these involuntary sharp intakes of breathe with a bit of paiin which was a little worrying. Recently been back to hard efforts on the bike and touch wood all seems ok. I can still feel where the scarring is on the lungs though but can't complain too much. Try and stop the cold air from hitting the lungs as that was quite bad early on.
Thanks to the NHS workers and all the support from you all!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I did a lot of research into this condition when creating my TH-cam video and it’s definitely a topic that should have more awareness!
As someone who is 25 and survived this... from one survivor to another... God's speed mate!
I'm 58 and had Two pulmonary embolism !! Scary for sure. Respiratory Failure left me disabled and ended my 37 year career in nursing. I miss that so much.
👏👏👏That's great to hear. Hope all is well now
Hey you have to keep taking the medication my wife is going through this right now and hates the medication had a small clot in her lung
Thing is when you get the initial symptoms you don't think much of them!
Glad you finally found out whats been going on. Well done Nat for getting him sorted out... 🧡
I second what Lord has said, you have been working hard so take some time for you and Nat to just enjoy yourselves
Glad that you finally found out what the problem was... So happy to hear that you're feeling better
Oh my... that's awful. I am so sorry for your loss
I came here to look for your bike and youtube setup video, but ended up having my morning coffee watching this 😂
Great work finding your way back to fitness.
Glad that you’re better now, wish you speedy recovery Scott. KOMback is coming 💪💪👍👍
Glad your ok mate , nothing more important than our health and family .
Good to see you're on the mend ... wishing you a speedy recovery.
How is it for you diagnosed with saddle PE
Glad you're OK. Speedy recovery, all the best!
So glad to hear you are on the mend. Looking for a chance to get on the bike with you soon. 👍❤️
All the best Scott. Speedy recovery. Hope Nurse Nat is ok
One more thing (!) - before last weekend you were though still sprinting twice what I can do, even with your blood clot!!
even i had PE at mid 30s, 2 yrs ago,
appreciate sharing your experience,
Jeeh, Scott, what a scary very unpleasant experience, for you in the first place but also for Nat.
Sorry to hear about this... hope you feel loads better soon.
All the best Scott. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hey... firstly sorry to hear that but pleased you are on the meds.

Hi ya. Just wanted to pass on another get well soon message. Hope things are improving. Sara and I thinking of you both....
Great to hear you feeling better ...Zwift on !
Glad to hear your on the road to recovery. Take care!!!
All the best with your recovery and hopefully see you back in the c races soon. Oh it's Chris swan btw on Mrs you tube account (follow you on zwift) still want to see this prodigy crit race haha
Thank you Nat, it's a good thing that you're used to ex-racing horses 😁 thanks for the update and the story, Scott. It was a close one 😰
My mother died from pulmonary embolism in 2014, age 67. It was shock because she had no previous symptoms.
Chapeau to Nat too!
You sir are amazing how you coped with this. Stay cool 😎 and be very careful and don’t over do it.
Glad youre okay now. Got 2 questions after this vid: 1) What zwift cat is the doc? And 2) did he subscribe to the channel?
Sorry to hear all about that Scott, let’s hope for a speedy recovery matey 👍👍👍
Must have been awful for you. Good that you’ve got a diagnosis and treatment and fingers crossed you recover soon.

And now i am on the long recovery from Pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung)
I cant believe you were riding your bike!
I been on eluquis for 18 days now I am 35 with acute bilateral pulmonary embolism
Are you feeling better? get well soon.
jaysus Scott. thats quite a time you and nat have had. glad you're on the mend. cauliflower cheese for lunch in hospital would give anyone clotted lungs 😜. initially i thought this was a rouse to 1 up phil lovett's medical woes, but clearly you kom'd him easy. take care, and take it easy.
Watching cause my 18 year old sister was diagnosed with this today and has blood clots in both her lungs and her left leg… I hope she does ok like you did 🙏🏼 she will be in hospital all weekend at least and they are watching her heart now
So sorry to hear that Trevor. How is she doing? Wishing her well and a speedy recovery mate
Is she okay now ?
Initially they said to me it was 6 months prescription but then they said they were keeping me on it indefinitely back in 2018 at my outpatients appointment.
I suffered bi lateral pe last year..quite scary but I'm OK now
Ahhh that’s amazing to here you’re OK now 👍🧡
I'm 26 and have multiple PEs right now. They were caught fairly early since my PCP/GP was incredibly attentive to and thorough with my symptoms. It might have been caused by my OCP and/or being immobile due to unemployment/depression but it's hard to say. I have other severe symptoms too that seem unrelated to the PEs.
I went through this when I was 41 and I am doing fine now.
How old are you now?
Get well soon Scott!
Been weeks. No stabbing pain anymore just a fucking heavy weight with a knot near the heart/upper left lung.
it encourages me to go again to the ER
Ps : I'm not a cyclist (more of a bouldering guy 😅) I just hope you got better thanks again for the video
You get better?
I was having these panic attacks not know I had a blood clot in my lung, I just found out saterday and I just released from the hospital last night, it's scary and terrifying, I'm at work now just hoping these blood thinners work
Great to hear you are doing much better. Did you get any referring pain under your shoulder blades?
Thank you. I’ve been meaning to do some update vids on this. No I can’t say I did, my pain was lower
This was really helpful to me the same thing just happened to me
Hey Branden... Sorry to hear that. How are you feeling now?
I had i a blood clot as we'll hope you get better it's ok we are lucky 🙏
This is my exact story!!! Down to the walking issues to the ECG and back tho I did have a CT over night but the wait was ages because again I'm young and fit and was compensating well, when they saw my scan they were supprised I was standing....
Stay strong... I've just popped you a reply on the other comment. Wishing you a speedy recovery
My dad is going through the same thing. It's been really stressful on our family but the doctors say hes getting better :)
Sorry, I've just seen this... How is he doing now? Fingers crossed for you and your family
all the best mate 👍
I just went through the same thing. Was told it was a Baker cyst then ended up with a PE...one week into it. Now what happens?
Best of luck to you mate.
