hey doug,,doug here,i have a 2007 700 king quad with the vdi, pipe, clutching, and 28 inch silverbacks, this thing is a rocket!!!,at least 20 percent betr on fuel and with the 2 inch lift,,,its amazing riding it in the mountains of western alberta
Yahoo, thanks Doug for the new video. I just picked up a 2008 KQ 750 and I understand what your saying. There's plenty of power but it's a smooth building up of power delivery. Not a thing wrong with that, it's very similar to the Polaris actually. I really love how snappy the 650 Prairie is if you punch it off the start, so this mod might be a good fit for me. God bless you & your family.
Thanks for the review Doug. I've been contemplating this upgrade for my King for some time. I know what you mean on the Prairie as I owned a 700. I added a Diamond G module to that ride and it was an awesome upgrade, and not allot of money either. If I can make my king respond like my old prairie I would be very happy indeed. I find myself using low range all the time in the woods for better response, and this mod would be great, as well as losing the limiters.
I decided to take the plunge and bought one for my 06 700. It's always been somewhat of a turd IMO, specially after installing some 28 inch ITP blackwater evolution's. It should arrive Tuesday (1/27/15), I hope it's as good as all the reviews. I'll report back in a week or two.
+doubleshok No difference, I had issues with it and took it off, put it back in its box and that's where it has sat for year and a half or so. I think there is something wrong with the box, I need to send it back and have them see what's going on with it. I called them a long time ago and told them it wasn't working, we checked a few things and everything seemed to be set up correctly. The owner was supposed to call me but never did. You have remained me about it, so Monday I'll call them back and see what they will do, hopefully I can send it back and get another one, but it's been quite a while since I talked to them about it. I'm probably screwed by now. We'll see.
My pleasure.....I do this because I understand the seriousness of spending your personal and hard-earned money for something based only on the manufacturer's 'claims' or reviews based mostly on PR literature or advertising income. We are fortunate to be able to test these products completely free from outside advertising pressure like most (all?) of the other sites.
I just wanted to let you know that I have went with the outlander 500 xt. Very nice machine! I looked at the velocity website and didn't see any devices for can am. Maybe in time they will h ab e one for mine. Thanks for your advice in choosing the right atv for me.
The only issue I had was breaking the little nut where the plug screws in. Although it was all my fault due to where I mounted it....Other than that it still works great.
Wow nice video and thanks for sharing with us. I was looking for a little extra snap in my 750 ever sense I added 26" mud light and this looks like it might do just that! Thanks again!
Still have it on my personal KQ700 but don't get to ride it much due to all the test units ;-) I still love it. The only issue I've had with it was my fault - the plug is rather fragile and where I mounted it under the seat caused it to pull out. Fixed now and works great.
Hi Doug, thanks for introducing this device ! Do you plan more testing on this ? A faster, more fuel efficient ATV (without harming the engine ?) sounds too good. Especially for longer trips on the highway. Greetings from Germany !!
Although I see no way that this will harm your KQ the dealer may use it as a way to void your warranty. But since this is a plug-in device and you keep your stock unit, I'd just plug the stock unit back in if you ever need to take it to the dealer.
Plug and play so they say ;-) It comes programmed in your choice of two ways. Typically in stock and limiters off and the first performance power curve added.
The 500 is indeed a great machine. I don't know if they have one but since the machine is so close to the 700-750 I bet they might be able to program one for it. Contact them. They are a great little company and very personal to deal with. And let me know!
If you want more chrisp throttle response, quicker acceleration, better fuel economy, and get rid of those stupid overrides this is the best way to get it.
Do you think adding a VDI would effect reliability? Lets your miles away from civilazation and your king quad stalls, wont start etc. Becuase of the vdi, now what.
I believe it to be just as reliable as the stock ECU. Remember you are simply replacing one unit with a unit programmed a bit differently. It should be no different than running a performance chip or a 're-flashed' ECU in a performance sports car.....
Yea I sure did and they said no! Reason was the 500 wasn't popular enough but somehow the 450 is? There has to be something or someone who makes something for this, worse case I'll just do the shim and clutch kit. Good luck man
Hello everyone and Doug, I know Doug, you are a big fan of the King Quad and I wanted to run this by you to see if you have personally ran into this issue with older King Quads? I have a 06 700 King Quad and have had a terrible time keeping batteries in my machine.. Even with a tender I am only getting 1 1/2 years out of them.. I live in MN and my Machine sits in my heated garage with a tender Jr on it for 5 months of winter.. I have done some research on forums and it looks to be a popular issue on the 05-06 models.. After reading forums and such, one of the fixes is to replace the ECU, I wonder if this ECU would fix this? If one was going to invest in another ECU to remedy the draw issues, maybe it would be beneficial to upgrade to this one instead of an updated stock ECU.. I might just need to contact them and ask.. Anyway, thanks for the great review Doug and any info you may have to share regarding this!!
I have not had that problem but highly suggest you check with Velocity. I would suspect that it fixes that issue which in that case replacing the stock ECU would be a no-brainer..... And justified by saving battery costs ;-)
Mongoheadmonster The Big Gun Power Box is basically the same type of device (modified ECU) so you wouldn't use both. And if you are going putting this on a Suzuki King Quad, Big Gun does not make one for it.
Mongoheadmonster Hmmm. I had checked their website and didn't see anything but sport quad stuff. So maybe I am wrong......Let's hope that's the case ;-)
You should redo this review with a 2014 and up king quad, The VDI makes your quad run horribly on the new style king quads (2014 and up). Lots of studdering and bikes wont start. Vdi is aware of this and yet continues to sell their product knowing full well its junk. After contacting Lyle from vdi he eventually gets fed up hearing from you and blames your bike. Its to the point where he wont even talk to customers with a 2014 and up. Check out the susuki forums and youtube, lots of proof the vdi sucks with newer kingquads
Those are some crazy claims, Doug can you say they are true for sure? I can't grasp it, no internal mods, no clutching, no exhaust and a giant leap in hp? What about torque increase? This is very interesting. I love the King Quad, it's lighter than a lot of other big bores and if this gizmo is legit it could put it right in the thick of some the others power wise.
They are indeed unbelievable numbers! Here's what I know; Although the performance numbers are unsubstantiated by me the performance increase is very feelable (that a word?) without any specifics. And I do know (from the manufactures themselves) that they left a whole lot of performance untapped in the engine due to safety concerns in a 'utility' ATV. I was very doubtful and did not test this for several years because it all seemed too much. But the performance increase is big. I had previously been down this road with my Duramax diesel and the claims by Hypertec and their programmable ECU. I put it on and was literally blown away by the increase in power. Later I did the same thing to my Flyin' Miata prepared Mazdaspeed MX5 and was again absolutely amazed. I finally thought I'd try this.
rz107375 - If you want some other opinions and great information on this, check out the NYROC website. In the forum section just do a search under Velocity or Copperhead and there is a lot for you. If you are a King owner - it a great website for a TON of information. nyrocatv.com/
Tell me it isn't so.....after 15 years of television and internet videos you're calling it quits? And all this time I thought it was my voice that was the most irritating - I am simply crushed ;-)

Good to hear it's working as planned. Thanks for the mileage info as well. I haven't put enough miles on yet to tell.

This makes it feel more like a Prairie....(One of my favorite ATVs of all time!)
And thank you.

That's really cool. Now if Suzuki would make a two up King I'd be sold.
sold! as soon as i get some extra coin in my pocket ill be doing this mod along with a few others

I think you would be better off buying from a company like power commander (Dynojet).
They say it improves the fuel mileage but I have not been able to ride stock and modified back to back to verify. It seems like it's better though...
Thank you for Your reviews they are very helpful!

I know they don't make this for the 500 Kingquad but will a 750 one fit it anyway

When you pull the trigger let me know what you think - Always appreciate other enthusiast's feedback.
You still running one of these Doug? Just curious on your thoughts after some time and miles, thank you for the good reviews.

Do you know if this VDI will compensate for altitude changes ,just like the stock ECU?
Yes.
Hi Doug, thanks for introducing this device ! Do you plan more testing on this ? A faster, more fuel efficient ATV (without harming the engine ?) sounds too good. Especially for longer trips on the highway. Greetings from Germany !!

So is the vdi ready to use out if the box?, or do you have to program it becuase i have heared that you need to get "map" for it.
Plug and play so they say ;-) It comes programmed in your choice of two ways. Typically in stock and limiters off and the first performance power curve added.
Does it affect fuel mileage
Hi Doug, enjoyed the info. I have a king 500 . Stellar quad by the way:-). Do you know if velocity makes a ecu for the 500? That would be awesome.
The 500 is indeed a great machine. I don't know if they have one but since the machine is so close to the 700-750 I bet they might be able to program one for it. Contact them. They are a great little company and very personal to deal with. And let me know!
Doug is there anything that you or anyone else may know of that works like this product for a lower price
None that I know of.....
Im thinking on getting one for my 13 750, hope its worth the money

Will this work for king quad 500 axi? Can't find any performance ecu for it, wondering if I can use this one on my 500?
Contact the company. Each unit is model specific.
jritch789 I have the same question. Did you ever call the company and found out?
Yea I sure did and they said no! Reason was the 500 wasn't popular enough but somehow the 450 is? There has to be something or someone who makes something for this, worse case I'll just do the shim and clutch kit. Good luck man

can I use a BigGun power box if I swap out the ecu?

I just ordered a BigGun power box for my suzuki 700 kq.... Description said "for suzuki kingquad 700"...so I hope it's not a phuckup.
Mongoheadmonster Hmmm. I had checked their website and didn't see anything but sport quad stuff. So maybe I am wrong......Let's hope that's the case ;-)
Bikebandit said discontinued but atvgalaxy had them $215US BigGun efi tfi controller....more than 10 available... Haha...yes, let's hope

can I get one for a artic cat xc450 2016 ?
You'll have to contact them.
m109 injector is also a good add on with the vdi!
