One morning, a friend and I, we're on our way to his place, around 7:30 am in the Castro, after a long night of dancing and partying. We were climbing up the hill on Corbett St., in San Francisco, and low and behold the both of us hear this voice coming from a balcony, from this house. Well, this black man came out in a full length emerald green, terry cloth bath robe. He bursted out with his effeminate voice and said " Good morning boys" ! We replied, "Good morning Sylvester" ! Realizing it was him, we went on our way, and giggled, what an unexpected and surprising experience, we had been through, kinda star struck...God bless you Sylvester ! 🌈💥✨💋🙏
I loved Sylvester so much.He and Two Tons of Fun stayed at my house in Portland, for a week I'll NEVER forget...Funnier than you can imagine.. he's our angel
Irene soderberg, Your so Lucky! I adored Sylvester and was blessed to have seen the Phenomenal Sylvester once at a club called Tracks in Denver and again at the Bourse Building here in Philadelphia, Pa. He made me feel MIGHTY REAL! Early eighties....no lie,he tried to put a hit on me!
@@michaelgaynor6866 i wasn't old enough to get in to Tracks, and im still upset that i couldn't get in that night, but my friend did and said he was awesome.
I had the Great Fortune of meeting Sylvester prior to his passing. I was in a dive bar in Atlanta. He walked in with a friend in tow, as a patron. The bar was tiny and it was "Stripper Night" He squeezed in to the only remaining seats with me and my friends. I can't begin to state how much fun we had..... so I won't try.... but I will say this, Sylvester and Divine absolutely set the stage and paved the way for all the rest ... and it is just this one man's opinion that they have yet to be surpassed in talent, creativity, or showmanship..... Hats off... R.I.P. wherever you are... I know the party has got to be rockin "Much Love... One Love"
VideoMusicManiac Met partied with invited him to my home, ate my mother cooking, taught me how to do my hair and makeup was gifted with the very first Gold Spaghetti strapped dress I say him in. Knew him when he was just Dooni long before Sylvester fame. Met when we were just out of high school and hanging out at the Trocadero Club on Manchester and Main singing to every song on the juke box. Back in the day when he was a member of the then famed Disquotays Drag Group, the fiercest drag queens in all of Los Angeles in the 1960s. I can tell you every one of the Disquotays were some of the most beautiful drag queens that ever put on a dress. Thanks Miss F for letting Miss Dooni wear my ankle strap shoos and breaking the hill off. That got me that Gold Spaghetti strap dress I so coveted. There was a club on 39th and Central in Los Angeles commonly called the "Bucket of Blood" and I had the distinct pleasure of having Sylvester not only do my hair, but do a complete makeup makeover right there in the middle of the club with all eyes on me. It was such a stunning transformation the very next day I had gained such fame in the LBGT community my mother phone rang all day for the next few days and I was invited to the home of countless people wanted to be my friend. There was not the fame and success that followed. I did not know in whose presence I was in at that time. Be careful to entertain strangers for thereby some have entertained an angel. R.I.P. my sweet angel.
Thank you for sharing your experience with Sylvester. I remember the first time I saw him perform at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, Ca. in the late 70's. He was androgynous appearing with long braided hair. The crowd was trying to figure out what they were seeing, but it didn't matter once he started singing. What a show he put on, everyone loved him.
LOvelypost and i agree ...1983 London and i went too the Embassy club in New Bond street just around from the Zhandra Rhodes dress shop ...it was a sunday night and i saw Divine in concert Jungle jezebel ..ahe was amazing ...and i was so lucky to have spotted her ads for the concert ..
So I saw Sylvester in a church in Harlem performing with Cissy Houston and the Edwin Hawkins singers that was the good 😊 old days . I miss those good concerts God Bless Sylvester.
Holy cow, I saw him with Edwin Hawkins as a guest @ Grace Eden Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago. I was too young to understand why a man sounded like a woman then later on that evening @ my uncles' (married gay men) house, he looked like a woman and talked like a man. Any way you slice it, I was in love with the entire package. I still play his records. He made me not be ashamed of whomever I was or wanted to be.
I am so honored that i had the grace to meet Sylvester in 1985,he was beautiful gracious spoke to each of us,then took off from Miss Fields Cookies on Castro. I i could say is I love M-1015,over and over. God bless you and the amazing talent you shared with this world!
Gay or not, drag queen or not, man or woman, Sylvester was one of the finest singers, entertainers and greatest voices I ever heard. Truly to be missed, as are all of the passed members of our music world.
Silvester was a Disco Star! He brought back the fun in Night Club dance life in the mid 80's cause disco was a dieing thing at this particular time.. He is missed of course but as far as greatest being a great voice no! He had his own vocals style and " Yes he can sing."! 😊 Great voice in different genre is like: Camilo Sesto🌷Andrea Bocelli, Luther Vandrus, Celine Dion, Shirley Bassey, Whitney Houston, Barbara Streisand, Aretha Franklin... even The Beatles as a unit were highly powerful.... He is given credit to his " Original vocal style, it's unique of him, that is what makes him "Silvester" very organic and it's definitely appreciated 💙💚 ..I partied during this time and Silvester was lime light in the Disco scene he would appear at the famous " Paradice Garage " that's where I first saw him perform very special nite 🎉🎉🎉🎶🎼🎵
Peerless! Sylvester was so far ahead of his time...and what terrific IN YOUR FACE talent....a wonderful combination with Martha and Zenora. Gone too soon.
i am glad you found this too.... I was young and let other's prejudices stop me from really see this man's talents. But, that's okay. It's never too late.
Thanks for saving and then sharing your lovely Sylvester clip. He play the club 1470 West and I saved the show and have posted here on youtube also. A great person who I met in 1976 at the Billboard Disco Forum...
I saw the Phenomenal Sylvester twice, once at a club called Tracks ( Denver Colorado) and again at the Bourse Building in Philadelphia,Pa. He was Incredible, and at 63 years old in September of 2019 this song just brought tears to my eyes here in Philadelphia, Pa. LEGEND!💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

but im not a drag queen, im Sylvester lmbo. Cant imagine what he went through being a man not being ashamed of being out of closet, dressing how he felt he should, and living with a disease that no one knew how to handle at the time.
I've never been the same after hearing him sing don't stop. I'm guilty of judging everything else he does by that standard. From a vocal performance perspective. Sylvester is an absolute vocal weapon in that track.
Much more a Nina here than an Aretha I think...but WOW! How utterly beautiful and absolutely unbelievable! Akin to Klaus Naomi with the classical stuff. HA! Hello documentary....
