However, the Alfa is more interesting for TH-cam, little bit crazier. Also the busso sound definitely seems easier to pick up with a mic for some reason, the Cayman never sounds good in videos I think because they tune the sound to be good right where your ears are whereas the Alfa just sounds good from anywhere.

Getting back into your current car is always interesting and a good measure of both cars. I just sold my Lexus GS450h, which is a ridiculously good car but huge and needs to go faster than the police would like to be a lot of fun so I wanted something a bit more fun. I looked at an FK8 Type R and BMW M6. Both very good cars by most accounts and both would smash the GS round a track. In terms of driving enjoyment though I forgot about them both within 5 mins of getting back in the Lexus. Sure it's not got much grip and the gearbox is odd but the perfectly balanced RWD chassis with loads of power and a lovely NA V6 plus being in a totally different league of luxury made those others look like driving an MG ZS, without the crashing bit.
Moral of the story is really this: I bought a Cayman S ☺ It's a 981 in my case (I much prefer the looks vs the 987). For driving, it's a clear winner. For TH-cam, many have said it- the Alfa wins. Personally I think the GTi-6 mentioned in a previous video was the best option, although the Alfa does sound better.

I have owned and run each of your options as a daily driver. Elise (with sports exhaust K&N air filter) fabulous handling and sounding car but impractical in the wet- getting in and out with roof on you need to be 5" and 10 stone, you will need asbestos hands to remove whatever you put in the luggage compartment after a short drive and it will refuse to stay on the road (in either wet or dry conditions); GTA fabulous sounds but unreliable and watch for corrosion- rear window replaced twice in the same winter after remote popping of tailgate resulted in rear screen disintegrating into 1000's of pieces and after six months of use the exhaust started to corrode; Cayman S (PDK in black with sports exhaust) great handling, fabulous gearbox, faultless driving and ownership experience throughout. Don't get the track car, get yourself a good basic S1 and put Nitron suspension on it and take it to Dave Andrews for a 160BHP upgrade. I know you like your steering feel and the S1 has the best of any car, you can also feel the lightness everywhere. You must have one once, you wont lose money and you will enjoy every second. I dailyed one of mine for 10 months and 12k miles no problems, commuted into central London everyday. You do need Nitrons for the Rolls Royce ride quality though....

I've owned 2 Elise series 2's and used them as a daily, but never a series 1. Nice to have in the summer, a pig to live with daily on a cold, wet winter's day. Have owned two Cayman S phase ones. Bore scoring and IMS isn't as big a problem as the internet would lead you to believe, and these issues can be swerved with a good inspection and proper oil. I currently have a Busso V6 in the guise of an Alfa GTV Cup, (I'm about to put it on the market if you're interested and I'm based near you). It's low miles under 60K and one owner before me and a very, very comprehensive full-service history. Oh, and I also had two 205 GTIs back in the day, both 1.9. My feeling is the cayman is the most complete. The Alfa the most special. Elise the most engaging. The Pug the most honest. With that said, an Alfa would be a must-have, especially if you've never owned a Busso.... and possibly a well-sorted cup (155 made, less on the road now).

Jack, owning two Italian cars at the same time🥴 I remember my days of driving Lancia’s, very painful, frustrating times but also great fun👍 I had a beautiful Montecarlo, it was my teenage dream car (I owned a Beta coupe 2.0 at that time), brought the Monte in my early forties, it was disastrous, broke down pretty much every week but still I was very sad to see it go... So go Alfa, to hell with it👍👍👍

Thanks for the ZX praise, there's just none about! Funnily enough in a strange twist a cousin of my mums liked the look of "our" Zx and bought a later 3 Dr turbo diesel version, I didnt think it was as pretty but I feel it started the hot td hatch craze. The twist is, the next time I saw this lady, her and her partner had an early 3 Dr red 147 cloverleaf, so in a daft way alfa please!! I do wonder why the twin spark idea never caught on, and I do think they look nice, but as said I'm a Ford man in part ' mk1s which I have, "Freddie" is an 02 Tdci, currently furloughed. I'll keep you in suspense and tell you who and what "Bertha" is that shares our driveway. Don't get too excited shes not a 288 GTO!! Best wishes, stay safe Ben 🦁🐎🚌🚍😷🦄🐢

We have a 147 GTA and 205 GTI on our channel and we love them both equally. You have to experience the Busso - that's for sure. Get a clean one, take car of it, and you will only see its value rise!

Cayman: but a 2.7 (same wonderful handling, no bore score issues, plenty enough power to be fun on public roads, two boots, and a late model is very, very unlikely to have IMS issues). I bought one and I’ve been smiling ever since.

  • @matthewmasters

I'd go with the Cayman, partly because that's what I actually did but also because it is an immensely practical car with huge boot space (two full sets of golf clubs in the back, trolly in the front and space left over) that feels a little bit special to drive without being actually exotic in any way. Those 19" wheels will make the ride a bit harsh though. Believe it or not, they actually go better on 17s.

My Alfa was great, but every squeak, rattle or petrol smell had the nerves jangling and in the end i was happy when it went.
That V6 though is a peach - decent power, great noise (mine was the GTV 3.0 24v with an autodelta exhaust)
Id def have another Alfa but never as a daily drjver

@@bluegblueg Don't Caymans suffer from the IMS bearing failure like 911's? Plenty on eBay which say they have had a reconditioned engine. I also just don't get them as a car, the mans Boxster is just a 911 and they aren't much bigger.

Cayman S for me. Huge fun, great handling and can still do a wine-trip to France easily as has more storage than you think.
Thought you’d stay with a car of Pepe’s era though...how about a 944 S2. Has all the above traits and it’s appreciating.

Be careful with lots people say LOTUS stands for:
    L ots
    O f
    T rouble
    U sually
    S erious
they are not known for being reliable. I would go for the cayman i drove one the other day and it was amazing great handling, lots of power and a surprising amount of room for storage as you have room in the front and the back because its mid engiened.

For track use the Lotus wins. For overall ownership the Cayman wins easily (I have a 981 Cayman S). For TH-cam the Alfa is the most interesting and unique I think.
The issue with Lotus isn't necessarily reliability so much as inconsistency- the chances of getting one with issues is fairly high, although most will be fine. The Alfa...well that's one reason it'll be great for TH-cam, it'll keep needing work!

Gotta be the Alfa, I have a 159 sportwagon, I’m a mechanic and always shyed away from Alfa’s due to legendary electrical issues etc but, I have to say, it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. An Alfa is a partnership, not just a car to get you from a to b, as long as you look after it, it will give you the grin factor every time you drive it, and you can’t help but look at it as you walk away from it thinking, “ wow, that’s pretty “.
