PROMETHEUS AND THE CREATION OF MANKIND
When Zeus tasked Prometheus and Epimetheus to create beings to inhabit the world, Epimetheus made a fundamental mistake that cost Prometheus his freedom.
And Zeus shows he is not just a god, but a wrathful king when pushed to it.

Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them.
This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience.
All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos.
There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries.
These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays.

The small comment Athena made about Owls made me so happy.
Parts like that are what makes these scripts so great.

The love Prometheus has for us, his great work, is truly amazing. The fact that he knew from the start that he would punished for stealing the fire and giving it back to Man, and doing it anyway. We owe so much to our Father's love, bravery, and sacrifice. And I also love that Athena was supportive of him, and stood aside when she caught him. She's always appreciated our capacity for wisdom.

I'm glad you enjoyed our tale!
It's good to hear our version is appreciated! Prometheus is a fun tale - and he pops up again a few times!
And Athena is involved in the creation of man in some myths and their were close associations between the two deities. I believe prometheus didn't have temples, but had a shrine of sorts in Athens, one of Athena's cities. It's fun to include details that represent the info we can't include in a story format. Thank you for watching!

The mythology can’t decide if all these creatures already existed “on their plane” or whether they were new considering they had transformed into many of the “new” animals with the 🦉 bit obviously heavily laden in meaning.

This story has fundamentally changed the way I see Prometheus and Epimetheus entirely. They are not just forethought and afterthought. Both represent the best and worst aspects of being a father, mother, or guardian raising children. Prometheus, being forethought, is patient, wise, and calculating, seeing an infinite potential within infinite future possibilities. But he is slow to act as a result of always looking to the future. Because of this, his creations, while complex, are lacking critical survival needs. As such, his "children" are nearly helpless without the gift of fire, and are unable to properly survive without it. Epimetheus, being afterthought, is impulsive, reckless, and daring, seeing infinite beauty and wonder within the present moment. But he is too quick act as a result of always living in the present. His creations can survive without dependence on external forces. But they will never achieve any sort of development beyond immediate survival needs as they lack complexity. If you combine both of their gifts into one child, nothing would be beyond their abilities. They can survive in the moment and properly defend themselves physically when danger presents itself. But they can also learn and adapt when they are physically outclassed and retain that knowledge for future use. When I listened to your story and the fate of Prometheus, it is exactly what the actions of a father would be. There is no punishment or pain they wouldn't suffer to give their children a future. As always, you continue to outdo yourselves. Keep up the good work. 🤠
    P.S
Zeus is a petty asshole 😂

Two primitive to offer meaningful worship or veneration and add in that we symbolize the defiance of Prometheus.. Not to mention we seem to hold the attention of the various minor gods/goddesses & so instead of praising Zeus they were looking at us..
Kings hate it when they aren’t the center of attention when they want it..

All sons of the same guy, El/Saturn/kronos. Prometheus oc is lucifer, zeus's adversary, which is why the greek theologically based christians use him as the adversary to yahweh. In judaism, the shatan is Samael, but the christians chose the adversary of jupiter

I watched this because when I was born, Mercury was a morning star making it Promethean, which gives it the nature of eager Gemini, that of forethought. I tend to be more future-oriented in my thinking.
    Mercury is your mind. 🌑🧠🙂
If Mercury was an evening star when you were born, it is Epimethean, giving it the nature of certain Virgo, which is associated with afterthought.

In hindsight. Epemiphius's 'squandering' the gifts perhaps was a blessing. Zeus would not be threatned by these creatures. There was no reasonable way for them to challenge the God's supremacy. Mimic yes, but surpass? Not without intervention from other divinities. And that is why they make the best games pieces. In the hands of haphistus this or that person might be a forger of renown, or someone who takes haphistus's creations and makes use of them.
A champeon of athena might bea great hero, or a doctor, or a general.
In this we are still very much the clay we were made from.
And yet even wit hthis Zeus felt utterly betrayed by promethus's stealing of fire and shows in spite of everything. In spite of all the lessons and trials.
He is still his father's son and this gives great context for the 'why' of prometheus's punishment. Sacraficial law had been made and zeus had seemingly been tricked in a bid to allow his creations to live and then when zeus repaid this 'trick' prometheus without hesitation akd knowing damned well what would happen. Defied his lord to ensure they would live.
Bless you for bringing these stories to life. my niece loves them.

The mythology can’t decide if all these creatures already existed “on their plane” or whether they were new considering they had transformed into many of the “new” animals with the 🦉 bit obviously heavily laden in meaning.

I cannot find any primary souce mentioning Athena helping prometheus create mankind, does anyone know where this detail came from?

    • @livingmythology1405
      @livingmythology1405  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hey there - I have included some primary sources below, but Athena is mentioned in many versions of the tale. From just the fact that it is called Hephaestus and Athena's forge/workshop - To versions where it is Prometheus and Athena who are ordered to make man together.
Or the versions where Zeus commands Athena to 'give it life' - it is repeated in tales of Pandora - where Hephaestus makes Pandora out of mud and Athena breathes life into it.
But also there are rare versions of the tale where Prometheus was in love with Athena and that is part of why he is punished, interested but not included in many versions.
So including Athena in part of the creation process - is a slight nod to the references and different versions that include her, for one reason or another.
Besides we're storytellers! Hoping to tell a great story!
Mythology has so many different versions of events - sometimes we have to pick and choose and not everyone is happy and that's okay! We just hope you enjoy it and go and research more myths !
      I hope this helps!
      [sources-

Zeus is said to have ordered him(prometheus) and Athena to make men out of the mud, and the winds to breathe life into them

Prometheus, in the legend, often appears in connection with Athena, e. g., he is said to have been punished on mount Caucasus for the criminal love he entertained for her
      Plato, Protagoras 320c - 322a (trans. Jowett) (Greek philosopher C4th B.C.) :

"Prometheus stole the mechanical arts of Hephaistos (Hephaestus) and Athene (Athena), and fire with them (they could neither have been acquired nor used without fire), and gave them to man . . .']
