The only part of a tractor I can name is the ignition key. But my husband loves your channel and we watch every video. I'm learning something new every time!
You made this comparison and offered a compelling argument for flail mowers in maintaining a field. Thanks! Great information! I wonder about time to complete the task as it compares to the zero turn that you mention having done the job with previously.
Italy used to known as the place to make cheap stuff till the Chinese beat Italian manufacturers. My dad had a SAME tractor made in Italy. It was a beast.
I bought a Kubota 3901 to replace my Chinese NON-Deere Piece of Sh*t. I used a finish mower to cut 5 acres of grass like you are cutting in this video. Well it finally gave out and bent the deck so instead of a total rebuild, I looked up the flail mowers and I was on board. It is actually the same cost if not cheaper in some aspects than purchasing a new finish mower. I hated the windrows of grass the finish mower left behind and the constant sharpening of the blades. I went all out and bought the Titan 165FLAILDB. It comes with the hammer style blades with an option to buy the "Y" blades. The 165 is capable of a slide shift offset AND a 90 degree vertical lift as well a 35 degree down to cut ditches. I LOVE it! It is so versatile and does an AMAZING job cutting that field I mentioned. No more windrows of grass but a highly mulched by product from the mower. It takes some time to get the adjustments right so you don't scalp the ground as much but all in all, I love it. With the slide shift offset and the size of this mower I would marry it up to a Grand L 4060 but my 3901 handles it well.
I know you say you don't "need" one but, when I bought a larger tractor about 2 1/2 years ago, I needed to upsize my mower to match. I could have purchased a 6ft rotary cutter and it would have worked just fine. But I'm glad I went with the flail. Reduced backswing, reduced vibration, offset cutting for road shoulder maintenance, better maneuverability in tight quarters, easier trailer transport of tractor and cutter, finer mutching, and easier storage have been well worth the extra cost. I cut everything from grass to woody scrub brush, to old stumps and blow downs that can't be salvaged for firewood, even small trees(about 2" diameter). If you can't tell, I'm a HUGE fan!👍🏻🤠👍🏻
@@jerrygilliam7349 And the flail doesn't turn every rock or limb into a potentially deadly projectile, so you can mow near houses, livestock, etc. with far less concern than with a rotary mower.
Our road mowers that I use at work use mowers made by US Mower, located here in WA State. We have 3 rotary mowers attached to side booms that allow us to really reach out and mow ditches and back slopes as well as trim branches back. Our 2 shoulder mowers both use flail mowers with the Y blades. They do pretty decent, though it takes getting used to having them mounted on the side rather than the rear like the one in your video. I'm usually in a boom mower and those rotary cutters will cut through anything, though blackberries and some thicker wet land grasses give them issues. They have no issue chewing through cable peds though.
When it comes to bearings, brand doesn't usually mean much as far as finding parts. Most cheap bearings, even from China use the same numbering system as the NTN stuff etc. making replacement bearings fairly simple.
Thanks! You are very good at these most informative videos and I look forward to new releases.. Just wish you were closer to Louisiana! Keep up the good work Neil!
I picked up a Titan 54” last year and so far so good. Overall happy with it. Initially I was disappointed with the lack of quick hitch compatibility, but ended up switching to Pat’s Easy Hitch anyway and it works with all my implements including this. I cut 5ft high weeds with it and also some woody shrubs.
@bowhunter 85 Your assumption is actually Wrong. The structural integrity was subpar in my opinion. Before it fell apart. It worked great. I loved the sound of the Humm it makes when it reaches full speed!! In my opinion it was cheap import metals and assembly shortcuts. No Loc Tite on any of the bolts either, allowed all of the bolts to loosen and many too fall out. Definitely going to purchase a bottle of LocTite just for this implement. The sales label that was zip tied to the shaft lasted longer than Large sections of the paint. The finish was flaking off in 6”x 6” sheets. Planning on uploading a video at some point in time. After that I will rebuild the unit, reinforcing it where needed. Especially the roller that keeps it from scalping. I can lift it with one hand. So I definitely won’t be purchasing the cheap replacement that they offer. (So obviously others have had issues with this inferior component if they are readily making “replacements” available). I plan on cutting it open just to see how thin of a gage metal is supporting the weight of the mower itself and the loader arms in float mode. It was beat up pretty bad especially once the duck heads hit it when the bolts worked their way out. So there is no way to salvage it. As to Flail Mowers, I love em! They do a great job. The “Fail” comes from the manufacturer standpoint, who I will no longer purchase their import implements from. Also keep in mind that there are two companies that call themselves “Titan”. Don’t get the two confused.
You guys should do a review on a rears fmg flail mowers. We own several they are high quality in my opinion but it will be really neat for you guys to do a video on them
This I have to see.. that means my Yanmar YT-235 could use that 69" flail mower with its 27HP at the PTO 35hp engine. I currently use a 72" 3pt finish mower, but I always just assumed a flail mower needed more power than a finish mower. Nice to be enlightened!
I have a woodmaxx 72H flail on the back of my YT 359 and would have been able to use an 84 but for it going to a cat2 hitch. I agree with Neal that you can go bigger with the only thing limiting you is your 3point lift capacity. They tend to be pretty heavy. I bought both style knives but have not used the hammer knives yet. Cuts like a dream and is so quiet.
Those R14’s look nice and seem to do well on turf, anything you can share on these yet regarding turf performance and durability for driving through the woods or over cut up saplings?
I’m impressed with that cut on the hammer. I’d like to see it run it through hay and other grasses over 18” tall. Is the hammer or knife going to turn it into something you could bale. Nice bit at the end by the way. 🤣
@@CarrotCaptain thanks, that’s what I expected to happen but wasn’t sure. I’m curious about options for hay on a subcompact. A sickle is like nothing to a 25hp tractor but it lacks a crimp roller in a haybine.
Neil, how about a demo with a flail mower in higher grass, something that you'd normally use a rotary mower? Can you get into cutting saplings, or do you need to stick with a rotary for that?
my rotary cutter doesn't handle uneven ground very well...looking at a flail mower to try to a) cut down my woody weeds and b) handle the humps and bumps of my cattle pasture
The 74" Agri Ease flail I bought a couple years ago came predrilled for an optional hydraulic offset kit that gives the operator the ability to sideshift the mower 18 inch. Does Titan offer a similar option?
Took delivery of the FL165 this week hammer blades attached for my by Messick's made ready for use. Love the way it handles weeds and small brush with the hammers but hay size Bahia grass in the pasture not getting a very clean cut unless go over twice in different directions. Would the Y blades work better. Might do the food plot fields and brush around edges with the Hammers still on then try the Y Blades on the open areas with the y blades. Am I thinking right on that?
Hey Neil Messick, have you had a chance to put this flail mower into some tall 3-4ft tall grass and weeds yet? I’ve been considering this mower for my L3902 and there’s almost no info or reviews on them.
Great video. In the video, you state that this Titan is about $500 less expensive than the better units. What would be that step up? Looking at your website, it appears that to get a comparable width in the DelMorino units, you are looking at about $900 more (DelMorino Funny Top 158), or are you comparing it to the smaller (32"-42" models)?
Either 60 or 72 are fine. I believe the 72 is a drive over, but frankly that's all silly on this size tractor. You have tons of room to work and removing the mower is a piece of cake.
Kubota 2007 Grand L3240 enough to drive a Titan FMH-175 flail ? My track on rear tire is 72" across, I'd like to have a full width pass. My local Kubota dealer told me my tractor could not handle the Landpride FM2572 flail. This video makes me think otherwise. Thanks in advance for all the helpful insight you guys offer.
I’m looking for the right tractor, was hoping you could help. I have a small cattle ranch and need a tractor that can lift bales of hay that are 6 feet in diameter and can weigh up to 2,000 pounds. A cab would be nice but not necessary.
small looking right angle drive…maybe ok for grass and small shrubs, but too small for any serious brushing? My field is growing in, and need something that can handle 2” poplar saplings, do you think this is too small?
Good video, I live here in TN, question I have, I have a CK3510 manual transmission, I can get a FMH 175 flail mower would that be to much for my tractor? I believe you would give me an honest answer Thanks
Neil, best to do laps with your right side on the inside of the field. And run your left tires on your previous lap for the mower to get more full width cut. Hint: clean the secondary cutters for a better cut.
