Thank you for showing your video. I didn't think to cut off the roots after blooming, from now I will do it. I have just cut off some today which is the growing season.
Thank you for watching. It’s OK to leave the dry roots in during dormancy then trim before repotting for the growing season. For me, it’s just easier to store them for the winter out of the pot with no roots.

Hello I got a question for you : My catasetum which is also a Fredclarkeara green coloured flowers, has a nice lettuce looking stem-pseudobulb with green leave on it., not gotten into yellow coloured yet. Neither has it flowered this year, and I dont think it ill, as autum is slowing approaching The other 3 neighbour pseudobulbs (the old ones) are quite slim and very wrinkled. My question is, whenever the catasetum gets into the dormancy phase should I keep the slim and wrinkled pseudobulbs with the new one, into a storage container ? , or perhaps should I throw them away as they are very slim and sucked up?. Thank you.
If your orchid is similar to mine, it won’t flower until after all the leaves have yellowed and fallen off. Then, watch for a spike swelling near the base of the newest bulb. Leave the older bulbs attached during dormancy and into the next growing season. They still provide energy for the overall plant. Don’t remove an older bulb until it turns completely yellow and dries. That is the signal that the plant is finished with it! Hope that helps!

The whole point of the plant is for the blooms so I don't understand since it's blooming why not partially water so the plant can support the blooms without draining the bulbs and aborting the flowers from lack of moisture? Why force dormancy when it's in bloom...
The best answer is because this is how Mother Nature treats the orchid in the wild. The best methods in cultivation try to mimic these conditions. It fits with the growing cycle of the orchid…once leaves yellow and drop, the root system begins to die back as well. Continuing to water would begin to cause rot. I think it’s your own preference really. When my Monn. Millenium Magic “Witchcraft” is in bloom, I would lightly water when I saw that the bulb was starting to shrivel to plump it back up. Then, when the blooms started falling off, I would decrease watering but the bulb was still plump enough for when it went into dormancy. Then, after its rest, and it started waking back up, it had the resources to feed the new growth. Anyway, that’s just how I do it and mine thrive and bloom. 😃

Where do you store the Catasetum ? In what lighting conditions; bright, semi-dark?
Indoors for winter dormancy…next to, but not directly under the grow lights for my other orchids.
