I can only echo the sentiments written below. thank you so much! i had to factory reset my 2014 macbook air and hit the brick wall to upgrade the OS. you are a legend mate. I can keep the hardware going now with bootcamp.
I was gifted an old mac from my mother and she couldn't remember her apple id password, so it was back to factory reset here. I got lost on a step and ended up needing to get mac x os. I ran to many an article trying to help me get it back up to a newer OS and this is the only one that was clear and successful from the get go. Thank you!!
Same after i got my mac from offer up it came with high sierra but trying to reinstall it brought up issues with the security url not bejing able to communicate to apple server so after changing the url to the updated one it finally let me install but then it said cannot install because the disk was in apfs format so i deleted it then went down to os x maverick and followed the steps in the video and it worked! Back to high sierra :-)

Very good. I have a macbook pro mid 2009/mavericks 10.9.5 Safari doesn't work to i use GoogleChrome I have to uppgrade to "el capitan" The only way is to download/install DMG file from apple. In your video here is how you do it? But you do it with the version after el capitan. So i only need to download and install the dmg file el capitan? Is that all? No more other steps or download other stuff? I will give a try then. Thank you for your help.

So happy that I found this youtube. I factory reset my iMac late 2013 after that all i cound get in OS X 10.9.5 and no more update and very basic. now I can update to Sierra and beyond thaks

I finally loaded Maverick on my 2012 MacBook Pro also google chrome and I wanted to get to Sonoma, but Big Sur is good enough for what I need. Sonoma will not work for 2012 Macs. you can update upto I think El Capitan

Try Catalina. Big Sur may not be compatible with 2013 and older
