    Thanks for watching, everybody! One more issue of trumpet week on Scholastic Brass Month before we move on to all things French horn!

    The 900 uses a bach 25 clone pipe, so that is where the Bach feel you noticed comes from. The E bell, with strong core and speaking very easy, was one of the most used on stencil builds for boutique brands

      That all checks out. Glad to know my observations had some basis in fact. I very much like the flexibility and core of the E bell. Its response is not too far off of the Yamaha bells I like.

    I don't recall what model it was, but I saw a Kanstul in a music store one time and played and wow, it was fantastic. Very free blowing. I probably should have bought it. But I do own one Kanstul, their piccolo trumpet.
    I can't believe all the trumpet companies that have gone out of business. Benge, Kanstul, Burbank Trumpets. All very fine trumpet makers, pretty much the same group of people, very lightweight trumpets that were good for jazz and lead work. Unfortunately by the time I decided to buy a new trumpet, these companies had all gone out of business and the only one left was Schilke, who, again, it was pretty much the same group of people that made all of these trumpets I just named. I got a Schilke B6 which does not blow me away the way that Kanstul. Of course the B6 is only a medium size bore for a much more resistant blow. I suppose I go more for the open blows. I probably should have got the X3, But the fact that many lead trumpeters play the B6 steered me in the wrong direction.

    Another excellent review!! I feel like I’m always presently surprised by Kanstul, sad to see them not around anymore :(

      They had some awesome horns! Still not sure I’m sold on their soprano cornet though but it’s the only one I can use for brass band this coming season :/

    This horn reminds me a lot of the Kanstul made Marvin Stamm Besson trumpet I used to play. Same valves and a lot of what looks to be the same parts.

      Kanstul had a very interesting history, with Zig and his employees seemingly working with/on instruments made by many other brands. “Kanstul-made” is a common phrase in the community.

    Hi! Is Kanstul Custom Class Model 900 a professional trumpet?

      It is technically considered an intermediate model but I believe it is good enough for professional use.

    How can you play that high?

    • @SamuelPlaysBrass
      @SamuelPlaysBrass  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Small quantities of fast, hot, laser-focused air. A lot of it is compression of the abdominal muscles and a little technique I call the “V-tongue” where I curl the sides of my tongue inward and upward very slightly as I ascend. It produces a sound like a cat’s hiss because of how fast the air moves.

      @@SamuelPlaysBrass Interesting. Even though I’m trombone and not trumpet, I’ve been experimenting with different tongue movements for high notes. I’ve been annoyingly topping out at Bb4 for a while now and hopefully tongue shape can help unlock something.

      @@jjschm20 For what it’s worth, I’m pretty bad at high notes on trombone and it hasn’t helped me there… I’m gonna have to find some other technique that’s more applicable to low brass, it seems.
