- Frugal really doesn't need to be EXTREME. Consistently shopping the sales and stocking your pantry and freezer, slow but sure, is the best way to stretch your budget.
Those farm stand prices are amazing. I am trying to buy more organic but those prices are hard to pass up, and since I don’t eat the rind, I also buy non organic winter squash. Good buy!
@tenthousanddaysofgratitude Those farm stand prices were phenomenal. I had a family member say they didn't like picking through the bin of carrots. I have no such problem. $1 for 10lbs. Let me in there!!!
@@adventuresingrocerylandthis is so funny to me because picking through vegetable and fruit bins is standard practice in brazilian supermarkets. Buying in bundles or pre-bagged produce costs more and it's harder to find. So unless you go to a specialised store, you pick through your fruit and vegetables.
@@deeehi3 I'm not sure really what the problem was. They felt the vegetables were "cull" vegetables and not great. FYI - they taste just fine to me. Ha
Great job....and that's how living frugal works :)
@@kathryndockrey1477 Yes. Exactly.
Farm stand prices are fabulous.
@@honeywell7892 Those were insanely good prices. It was such a blessing that I worked very heavily from the work site near that stand that week. I checked it every single day on my way home!!
We love the chicken and turkey bacon. Great week mel. Beautiful view and meals are delicious
Thanks, Jodie. That was the first time I've ever cooked chicken bacon and it was really good and lean. I'll keep my eye our for deals now that I know. Lol!!!
Beautiful view of the lake!! Kenny had some great veggie deals!! You had a very good grocery week!! 😊😊😊😊
@@cindydaniel6125 It was a great week!
Hi Melanie 🤗 What a great week! Loving those farm stand deals. All your meals looked fabulous as usual. I haven't had onion rings in ages! Now I want some.
We both enjoy onion rings. I've tried to make them homemade in the past with disastrous results. LOL.
The veggie prices from the farm stand were totally doorcrasher HOT DEALS!! How could you not? I have a family member that doesn't like digging through the bins. Ha. I have no such issues. I'm right in there digging and scrounging!
Great week again! Loved your ham dinner! Carrots and beets oh start the car!! Just seen an ad fir 50 pounds of carrots for $15 which is great but can’t beat 10 cents a pound! Lol I can’t deal with 50 pounds but might ask some friends to go in on a bag with me. Lol I ve pressure canned them and they are too soft for my liking. I’ve blanched and frozen and they are great. But I’m like you my freezer space is too valuable for too many carrots. I could keep some in fridge but 5 pounds would about do it. Oh well. I grated and froze beets to use in borscht soup. I roasted some too but not sure if roasting and freezing would work. Maybe you’ll have to ash around for some jars to pickle them. I use white vinegar in mine. Love beets. They are a super food good for you. Have a great week!
@deedream10 Yes. 50 lbs is a lot. Definitely worth going splits with friends. We'll just use ours for fresh eating now. I am storing them in a cool dark space so hoping to make them last longer.
You are so right, frugal means shopping smart, I cannot believe how much I am using the food hero app, thank you so much, it certainly makes your dollar go further and I am able to share even more with others
@@tinaelliott8029 Yes, I'm enjoying the Food Hero app as well.
I'm not sure what caused the, "Oh, sh*t!" moment while making queso, but it made my day to know that someone else has moments like that! Thanks for the video. I always love seeing what you come up with.
@HumbleVoyager LOL. I dropped the whisk in the pot and it totally was covered in queso. Sigh! Lol
Thank you for another great video. I do love beets. ❤🎉😊
Those farm stand beets look big and yummy. They are nutritious too! ❤🎉😊
@@sandiedrew4086 Beet pickles for the handsome one. Maybe beet pickles for gifts!
@@sandiedrew4086 The big ones are so easy to process. I find they are less work.
I love your videos ! So great to see all your deals and meals , they look so yummy and give me great ideas for my family and as always I love seeing your garden haul !
@@melelcur Aww. Thanks. The garden haul is getting exciting.
I love the deals on in season produce!! I'm not from NS but you have inspired me to make hodge podge! I menu plan and meal prep weekly, so it's coming up soon and I can't wait to try it! Thank you!! 😊
@mrsladybird Ooooohhh, You will love it! Very exciting!
Love where you're living...soooo pretty 😍
@@deborahoakey3560 Aww, thanks. It was a real blessing for us to move here full time.
Holy Moley! The farm stand veggies! I got a good deal last week on turnip, beets, carrots and onions for 5 pounds $1.66. I made pickled beets because we love them (and our grown kids). Potatoes for 2.88 10 pound. Yes, if you watch you can get good deals and process for later use. Thanks for another great video. Have a super weekend!
@@darleneprice6467 Thanks, Darlene. You got some great buys this week yourself!!
Amazing looking meals this week! The water view from your house is beautiful! That must be incredible for sunrise and sunset. Nice garden crop. Have a great weekend, Melanie!
@barbaragilmer9731 Thanks, Barbara. Every day I feel gratitude that we made the decision to move there full time. That we have been able to learn what container gardening works well in the environment, will make next year so much more bountiful!!
Your ham dinner looked AMAZING and easily could have doubled for a holiday meal especially with an addition of cranberry sauce. Can’t wait to try dill in my next egg salad - my go to has always been the addition of chopped pimento stuffed green olives :) And you outdid yourself with the poutine 😋 Thanks for another outstanding video 😊
@irenetimm2107 Honestly, Irene I am the most random cook. Lol. Sometimes I get these ideas and just roll with them. It always keeps meal time a bit exciting. Ha ha ha.
The lake is beautiful. ❤🎉😊

I love your videos, wish i didn’t have so many food allergies as your meals look so good! Thanks for sharing your awesome deals as well, always inspire me to watch for deals & continue to do better with my shopping!
What types of food can you eat? Do they go on sale occasionally?
@@adventuresingroceryland oh yes, absolutely! I eat very simple meals, eggs, most veggies, meat, rice & a few fruits. :)
U r lucky the store let u use multiple coupons on the same products. I swear they make up rules at times. Or cashier doesn't care or know what policies are so they do what they think. Yet other places like 🇺🇸 their coupons double at times and other provinces here they can stack coupons. I wish lol. Great week mel. Look forward to Friday mornings w mel. 😅❤
@jodie19831 It was one coupon per product. We are not able to use multiple coupons on one product. 😁
@adventuresingroceryland oh ik it is one coupon per but mine won't let me do that here. Ridiculous. Makes no sense. Have u uploaded the digital coupons for superstore
I always bake our bacon for the week andthe pull out what I need
@@Nana-zi9xq Very efficient! Love it!
Carrot soup is nice and I also can slaw
@@Nana-zi9xq I've never made carrot soup. Is it a cold or warm soup?
@@adventuresingroceryland either way. I prefer cold with a little chopped chive and sour cream on top. Can your carrots and then whiz it up when you want some
I started taking the frozen vegetables out of the bags and put them into ziplock bags. I was shocked at how little is in those bags.
@leeanne8651 I am always looking for the 750g bags. Better value. When they go on for $1.99 I try to stock up. Honestly, I should have purchased more.
@@adventuresingroceryland Yes! Those small only fill a medium sized ziplock bag. I find they stack better in the freezer in the ziplock bags.
Hi, new sub. I really liked this video. TY.
@conniewach7872 OH great. Welcome to the channel. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Where are you located?
My parents and I are making salsa Sunday. So delicious
@@jodie19831 I am saving my zucchini up, waiting for enough tomatoes, to make salsa. I am getting a bit impatient. What kind of salsa do you make?
@adventuresingroceryland I'm not totally sure. Ik we use jalepeno, onion, tomatoes, green pepper, garlic for ingredients wise
PC Lemonade is excellent, when it's on sale I stock up.
@delledonne1 We've opened 2 bottles so far. One regular lemonade and one peach lemonade. I love the peach. Reminds me of Tim Horton's peach drink, which was a huge treat for me sya 20 years ago!. Lol
As always, everything looks great 😊. I bought the mushrooms for $.97 at Giant Tiger too. Just curious about the ham gravey... Was it really salty? Never made gravey from ham before.
@@rjewell1260 A little bit salty, no more salty than the ham itself.
Can you share your bread recipe please
Absolutely.
10-12 oz water
1.5 tsp salt
2 tbsp butter/margarine
2 tbsp honey
2.5 cups flour
1.25 cups whole wheat flour
2/3 cup quick oats
2 tsp yeast
I always place the ingredients in the pan in the order listed. Lots of times i don't have whole wheat flour and I just use 3 3/4 cups all purpose flour. I tend to use what I have on hand. I make this recipe more than any other bread recipe I have. I call it Honey Oat!
Are you planning on pickling all your beets? Have you ever roasted any in your air fryer? I usually process beets in the pressure cooker.
@@leeanne8651 We are undecided on the beets. I'd definitely like to pickle some of them. I've heard they are good bbq'd. That could be interesting. That's one thing I don't have, a pressure cooker.
@@adventuresingroceryland pickling beets are so time consuming, By the time I sort them for cooking by size, cook them in the pressure cooker, and slice them with the food processor after cooking them there is still the clean up. I like a beet sandwich, and lately I have been buying a bag of sliced beets frozen to forego all the work, or pick up a bottle of pickled beets.
@leeanne8651 I hear you. I just boil mine. The big ones like I got take longer to cook, but once cooked, slice like a dream!
@@adventuresingroceryland and so worth it! Pickled beets with the apple cider vinegar as so yummy!
@@leeanne8651 The big question. Do your beets have cloves? Our beets are clove free!!
You made gravy out of the ham juices? Was it sweet like brown sugar and salty like the ham? I cant imagine eating that on mashed potatoes?! LOVE the blooper and the sh*t ! hahaha You ARE a real person who drops the whisk into the pot! hahaha
@@qq1651 I've been making it for years. My family really enjoys it. My sister makes it now as well!
@qq1651 LOL. I always use a small pot and that little whisk leans up against the side. But randomly, that time I used the bigger pot and of course there was lots of room for that little whisk to fall right in. Sigh. Annoying and messy!
@@adventuresingroceryland lol
