I wasn't old enough to cherish him in my lifetime, but he sounded like a very genuine and amiable person. Rest In Peace Richard Whiteley: Mr Countdown.
Same with me I was only three when he died
I was 7 and a half years old at the time he died
goddam, i cant believe how cut up i get watching this, the world lost someone so uniquely ridiculous and sweet when richard died, and more now than ever the world really needs people like Richard Whiteley!! R.I.P

Countdown has never been the same without Richard and Carol, he will and always will be the only mr countdown
Both Carol and Richard were the first 2 people to be seen on Channel 4, when the channel first launched on 2nd November 1982. Countdown was the very first programme that was broadcast on the new channel. They both shared that special moment together that would make them both house hold names.
Carol and Richard were best friends and shared a special friendship with one another.
Carol was 4th, actually. It went Richard Whiteley 1st, Ted Moult 2nd, Mary (Moult’s Dictionary Corner assistant) 3rd, Carol Vorderman 4th.
Can't believe it's been 10 years this year it's flown by 😭😭😥😥💔💔 what a lovely guy he was! ☺️☺️😘😘❤️❤️
A true gentleman and fine broadcaster. Richard Whiteley still missed today.

Richard Whitely is one of my childhood heroes. Even though I was very young I watched countdown since I was six years old because I was obsessed with clocks and numbers! (I have aspergers) He was a loveable and funny gentleman and it is a damn shame that he died so prematurely.
I also have Asperger syndrome but also got Down syndrome and anger apnea mate
I shed a few tears watching that. Very moving tribute.

He was a good guy. Understated but a man of great charisma, intellect, wit but most of all great warmth.

2015 marks 10 years since we lost him
Doesn't feel like 10 years ago! I remember finding out when I was 13

I don't know if this is just my computer but there is no sound at all which is a shame because I've just enjoyed watching the previous two episodes, is there any way to fix this?
I have the same issue, I reckon it may be because of the music, which might have been muted to avoid a copyright claim

challenge channel (sky 145 or 164) are re running countdown week days at 7pm. I wasn't so bothered about watching the programme's the first time round, but I quite enjoy them now.
+Alex Robinson yes I'm watching that too, again wasn't so bothered first time round but enjoy it now, probably can answer more of the questions now, Challenge is a good channel to catch some of the older quizzes ect. Just for some lighter entertainment Bradley Walsh is OK on wheel of fortune.
Countdown was always Richards show.
