Long time fan, and just to blow your mind, I'm a 63 year old man fan. These lyrics stand alone as quality poetry, then you heighten it with the music, then you enhance it with Amy's incredibly expressive singing, and then the very well done video just puts a cherry on it. I can't think of a Evanescence song I don't like, and quite a few I love. If you do it right, angst does not go away with your teens, you do not stop feeling.
Amy Lee nailed this part in the video. You can actually see the pain and despair that the character is feeling. She is portraying actual depression and complete anguish as she is forced to be someone that she is not. Being everyone's fool would be extremely horrible. Love the song and the video is spot on. Amy Lee should have done some acting on the big screen
@Alain Marceux I mean being an actor is a hard not only as a job but to be successful in it as well. And plus faking emotions and such kind of kills you inside in the long run.
She was a "natural" at portraying these emotions because she's obviously felt like this at some point in her life. Hopefully she doesn't feel that way anymore
I always feel so dark when the video gets to the scene where she's on the roof in tears and yelling at her blown up photo across from her. There is something so gut wrenching about that particular scene. It gets me every single time. I absolutely love this.
For true Evanescence fans. This song may have hit TH-cam 13 years ago, but it was in fact 20 years ago I know they played a big part in my teenage years dealing with depression and anxiety. To this day they still help me
Helped me deal with my epilepsy at times, from the fact that her songs about them "well from point of view". She has suffered it for many years and I have suffered from it since I was diagnosed at the age of 9 and well now 37.
I remember this being on her first album Fallen in 2003, I was 13 and Evanescence helped me too, I'm glad they've helped people through some difficult times in their lives and continue to do so ❤
I love this song! It got me through me through a lot of trauma, trauma I didn't know was happening at the time. This song and many others among the Evanescence catalog are timeless classics and in my opinion deserve to be recognized as such!
I like how when these songs came out, a lot of people hated on her because “this shit was too deep and cringey”. But now it’s the exact opposite. I’m so so proud to be one of the Evanescence lovers even back then when people hated on her
It’s not talking about a physical mask it’s talking about putting on a false persona. Someone you’re not a mask of identity. Come on think about it using philosophy, listen to the lyrics.
@@ringofscum1717 it's a joke, we all know the symbolism of "mask", but we are making jokes about covid because that's about the only thing we can do right now.
20 years later and this song is more important than ever-with all the social media fake world and fake faces-it really is a visionary. Good work Amy Lee.
Listening to Evanescence over the years I never really took consideration of this song, but if you listen to the lyrics and Amy's beautiful, yet almost desperate voice... You can't help but fall in love with the song. It's now one of my favourite songs EVER!
The first time I ever listened to Fallen, this song was my favorite jam and still is of the harder songs among the album too besides Tourniquet. Shes the greatest female singer alive to me, hands down, greatest most beautiful voice ever. In my opinion at least lol
She is my #1, many others seem to agree. I'm 56 and have listened to her music since I heard her in my mid 30's. Most of her videos are great. Would love to see Amy Lee in concert!
What a big nostalgia! A big and deep sea of emotions ruining through my veins every time I listen to this masterpiece. When I was 16, every chord, every melody hit me so deep in my soul during the worst phase of my teen days. Now that's music! I'm currently 33 and this song keeps reminding me that we're humans, and we have feelings. It's just what this song means to me and I'm glad to have the chance to get to know this music, especially when I feel lost.
Oh how this song is WAY more relevant in 2019 than it was in 2003. That's the kind of thing that happens when artists who keep it real and are true to themselves write truly inspirational music, the value only grows over time. Totally opposite of writing the usual, fake "whatever it most popular now" music that blows up quick and then is forgotten about as fast as it came around. Definitely a great song. A great song for great people, on an album that did a lot for everyone who listened to it.
I don't feel like it's "WAY more relevant". Maybe you just had a different experience in 2003 than some of us. I was a teenage girl then and popstars did our self-esteem no favours. The difference now is there is even more 'reality' entertainment and it's gotten just as fake as showbiz was back then. It's an added layer of betrayal because 'reality' and TH-cam were supposed to be 'real', but fakery was just as rampant back then.
Amy Lee is one of the most beautiful women ever see. no doubt about it. but only people that beatiful can do this kind of videos and moke of those who arent. someone says depression? well maybe depicted and boosted now... so awful that the songs are impressive great and the videos are pure rubbish
She has sisters too? Wow... (note to self... don't be that creepy old guy). Uh, I'm sure that they are also very talented and modestly attractive. Are any of them single? (note to self: Doh !!!! you're being a creepy old guy). Um, are any of them older than Amy? (note to self: now you sound really creepy -- just shut up). Um... I'm sure that they are all wonderful and wish for them all happiness and success.
She has 3 and a brother. The third sister died when she was 3. Amy was 6, she adored her, it really messed her up. "Hello" from Fallen is reportedly about her sister.
My native language is not English, but somehow now, after years listening this song, I am fascinated on how she plays with the sentence "you've got everybody's fooled". And later, what blowed my mind was that at the end of the song she changed the sentence to "you're everybody's fool". The lyrics, the videoclip and the story behind the song is very well matched. She is trully a genius.
Amy Lee warned us about false advertising, unrealistic beauty standards, the pressures of being a woman in the music industry, the chronic epidemic of loneliness and despair, the struggle of not fitting in, and the dangers of blindly following those in power without questioning their motives, yet shows the power of what we can be when we be ourselves and seek the truth. This video predicted so much of the societal ills we have today in the Instagram, TikTok, and social media generation. Everybody’s Fool was so ahead of its time and we were fools not to listen.
You nailed it, not to mention how much we bully each other. I’ve struggled with bullying and body dysmorphia my whole life and this video saved me. I tear up every time I hear this song. Thank you Amy, you have saved so many lives with your music and we will never forget it.
Not to mention the attention economy, bullying, mental health issues, and also how ridiculous beverage advertisements have become (*cough cough Prime). This is why we love you Amy!! You will always be in our hearts.
I listened to her thankfully. As I'm sure a lot of others did too. Her music helped me through a lot of difficult times in my life from being bullied and assaulted for being queer, self harm, body image issues, the loneliness & isolation that comes with being different. She truly was ahead of her time and people just chalked it up to gothic/rock girl music when it's so much deeper than that.
@@justinaprehnant2888 I mean, they aren't wrong. But, they didn't have to call you dumb. lol (They were right about "being speechless means there shouldn't be a comment", but calling you dumb for it, like damn. Your reply made me laugh though, for some reason. XD)
The raw emotion and intense lyrics really capture the struggle of confronting deception and maintaining authenticity. Amy Lee’s vocals are incredibly haunting and perfectly convey the song’s message. The driving instrumentals and the song's atmospheric quality create a sense of urgency and intensity that keeps you engaged from start to finish. The lyrics are a poignant reminder of the dangers of superficiality and the importance of being genuine in a world full of facades. It’s a track that resonates deeply and challenges listeners to reflect on their own experiences with deception and self-identity. Every time I listen to it, I’m reminded of the strength found in embracing who you truly are
Depression is real. You wouldn't understand unless you walk in their shoes. To everybody who's out there struggling with anxiety and depression remember you're not alone. Tomorrow the stars may not shine, but trust me we all will.
Amy said in a interview that inspiration for this song was Britney Spears career ( Britney was on top 2000’s definitely ) And after all what Britney said in court in 2021 Amy words were so damn true :(
@@SmartWentCrazy So, I was right in my other comment, it wasn't all a fever dream I had. :D I meant that I read that she said it and how she was an angsty young rebel back then, with the red eyeliner and messy hairstyle.
@@whotf4618 actually, the tabloids tried getting her to talk crap about Brit but she kept shutting them down and even defended her at some point. I think she only rlly called her fake because the industry was forcing Brit to hide her true self before her breaking point essentially masking up when in public.
Fallen was just a banger album from start to finish. 15, or 20 years ago perhaps longer I used to play these songs on guitar for high school shows. Every now and again those guitar riffs keep coming back to me and brings me back to the source.

The best thing about Amy Lee is going a year or two without hearing her voice then getting a chill down your spine the next time you do. I vividly remember the first time I heard her voice on a staticy radio station when I was on a road trip traveling through New Mexico. I ejected a CD when it ended but didn't turn the volume down first and BAM there she was. Hard to believe that was almost 19 years ago
i thought the samee today hearing the new tour. There is like 3 years without hearing evanescence, and when i heard her voice again...omg ...gooosssseebumpsss everywhere... Amy's voice is really incredible and evanescence sound is unique
I find it funny that this song is more relevant today in 2018 than it was at the time of this video's initial release. Also, this music video eerily tells a slight variation of what happened to Britney Spears, the "MEGA IT GIRL" of the early 2000s.
i just realize any artist who dissed britney before? are nowhere to be found in the industry haHAHAHAHA,. While Britney is topping charts and still relevant. jhahahha Evanescence who? one hit wonder. hazhahahah
what i would do to go back to the first time I saw this music video. i remember being 10 years old and amazed by this entire video. I was in complete awe. what a simple time. now I understand the song more than anything as a grown woman
My goodness. This was in my recommended videos and I had to click. I’ve never seen this video but I memorized every word to that album. I’m almost 41. I saw Evanescence in Chicago when I was 20 or so. It was amazing - her and her piano rose from the dark stage and started playing My Immortal - just her voice and her piano. It’s something I’ll never forget. In 2022, at age 40 - I took my teenage daughter to Evanescence in STL. She will forever be such an amazing artist. I’m so glad my teen appreciates and loves this amazing artist as much as I did/do.
this song is my life. All my friends think that I'm some perfect little girl who doesn't have any feelings and they just pour all of their pain onto me, not caring that I have no one to pour my pain onto. It really hurts, and I seriously think they don't know that I have feelings...
I feel your pain. At school my friends pour pain all over me. They think I'm perfect but I'm not. A kid once said "not everyone is perfect like you" just because I told someone to try harder. Just use a stress ball or something if you're feeling down or mad. :) you aren't alone.
+Zoie Gal none of mine noticed when i was anorexic. none of them noticed me cutting my legs. none of them noticed my depression. none of them noticed when i tried to kill myself by overdosing on ibuprofen. they just pour their problems on me and expect me to fix them. some people just need to open their eyes to the people around them. they dont notice ME (I found out after that ibuprofen cant kill you)
Maybe its time for you all to move on and leave those dipshits behind. Life is full of people that have suffered emotionally, maybe you will find someone that went through stuff too! I hope you can find peace of mind sooner or later!!! "Carry on my wayward son! There'll be peace when you are done!" Life is all about the journey. I really wish you will find someone worthy to walk the path with you!!!!!!!
This is more than 14 years old, more like 20. I associate this video with self harming and self hating. This came out when I was a teenager and struggling as teens do. Now two decades later I can appreciate how Amy let herself appear in this, so vulnerable and so normal. I can listen to this song again. It's an adult now. I haven't self-harmed in years.
"You're not real and you can't save me." Sang to this fake "better" version of herself... honestly I'm so thankful I grew up to this, so thankful I got out of that mental place in my life.

I think this might be my favorite Evanescence video of all time. Amy Lee's acting in it is incredible, and so very poignant, and is done almost without a word.
You are not the only one with anxiety "I hope you can get better" that's what a lot of people say until they realize that you can't cure anxiety with medication
I'm still can't decide if Evanescence are metal or rock. The guitars have a very distinct metal sound to them but with Amy's beautiful singing I just can't tell
Minahil Zaidi Yeah, that s kind of what I thought. It's a bit like with Breaking Benjamin, the majority of the time Bens singing in his great singing voice and then suddenly there's his blood curdling screams and huge and powerful guitar riffs. Alt metal's a weird genre because there's just so many different characteristics of it.
When people dont need social media to express their sadness, they only need Evanesence tunes. Ironic that today has more suicide deaths than back then.
@@dantommo4797 I would say, not "maybe", but definitely. Social media reduces everyone to the lowest common denominator it seems. When most of life for young people is a shallow facade, depression is never far behind.
I think it’s over medicating people today. One of the main side effects to a lot of prescription meds is worsening depression/suicide…my big sister was not suicidal until she was prescribed meds like a guinea pig. She took her life after 3 years of prescription meds. They messed with her brain chemicals and made her so depressed. I saw how much happier and in control of herself she was before being drugged. 😢❤️🩹
This song changed my life, I realized everyone hears what they want to hear and almost everything is a lie. The best song ever "There is nothing better than good lie." Everything bad that happens to people is because of lies.

She carried the whole video over her shoulders. Her facial expressions, her mannierisms, her acting, overall, was phenomenal, and makes this video, still relevant in 2022. And I am not talking about the lyrics, and the music itself, because we are talking about a masterpiece.
No she didnt carry it... Support actors were algo great... I mean... The blond "bitches" in the elevator pulling out an Oscar performance for mockery... They were brilliant too

Problem is this song was released before Social Media. Still rings true but it's about the depths of depression. You put on a mask so the rest of the world doesn't see how sad you really are.

Also if you're dealing with seeking a sense of belonging or having felt as if you've never truly fitted in with any crowd at work or school. This song reaches the depths of your soul if you can relate to it that is...
I wasn't really into Evanescence back then but I really dig this song after rediscovering it via algorithm. Cool video, strong lyrics (this wasn't too long after peak Britney) and I like the contrast between the dark and depressing verses and the chorus breaking free. Amy Lee knows how to write a song, that's why they surpassed many of those rip-off 2000s heavy bands.
This was a brilliantly directed and acted video. It never got the recognition it deserved. The themes are even more relevant now in the social media age, then it was then. Evanescence was my youth. I watch this, and I’m transported to that time again for just a moment.
Agree 100 percent this song nails it on the head with social media being everyone's fool....like people now a days fool themselves into thinking they are something else while they are killing who and what they used to be about .
Jesus-Christ love you my brothers and sistersss ! Come back to him ! (John 3:16) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." He died for you ! You will be saved by believing in his name, and you will not go to hell. So, accept him with all your heart, read the Bible ! Here is the good news ! ❤🥰🥰😊😊😊
Crazy that this song is even more relevant now than it was back then. Also super happy to see I'm not the only one who comes and listens to the older stuff. I've loved Amy since day 1! She's seriously beyond amazing.
I was about to say that in the last 5-10 years the music industry has realized that it works better with the consumers if you take performers who actually are authentic at a core and let them do, while wrapping them in a shell of marketing, instead of building them up as a target-demographic-optimized product "fake to the core". ... Except K-Pop. K-Popper are Everybody's fool To The MAX to this very day. ...But then I realized you are right, I am just thinking about depth, not width. Looking at Instagram and in fact most of TH-cam, today you have so much manufactured authenticity *everywhere*, it definitely is more relevant today.
Me too... But, someday, you will have a person that '' save '' you... I have a friend like me, but she never smile, now, i make she smile :) and that make me smile. Everythings not lost!
It’s been proven that broad music taste and intelligence is positively correlated. Also yea, how can it not be. Pop music lacks depth cause it’s easy to listen to. Music like this has meaning and truth. And we all know it’s hard for us humans to listen to truths. This is why people who are more open minded, therefore more wise, gravitate towards this.
that part where she breaks the mirror is real. So is when she cuts her hair. This video has such powerful imagery. Her breaking the mirror to me is her saying "i break the image forced on me"
zorianne1 i did an extensive biography on amy lee. in an interview, i cant remember which, she tell the interviewer that she accidentally broke the mirror but they kept it in. and you can tell her hair was cut because when she does the video duet with jonathan davis for freak on a leash, her hair is shorter and that was done shortly after this video

The first time I watched this music video I was confused at first, like was their an ad on my DVD? I continued to watch the music video and understood a lot better was the song had started, it did not take long to really pay attention to the message and it quickly became my all time favourite music video and song. I always related to the idea of wearing a mask but I didn't know why until more recently. It's been over 10 years since I first watched this music video and it still hits hard. I love how the message was told, this is truly a work of art.
There is nothing better than a good lie 🥺 This song tells 1001 stories, human stories and how people hide behind their “happiness” , “perfect life” and “I’m ok”.
The worst feeling is being “loved” by all because they see you as having it together- beautiful etc. But never being seen and not being accepted for your flaws ..... trust me it is not a fun place to be.
I just realized this song is about depression, faking happiness, and possibly anxiety, not rivalry and being an outcast- edit: for everyone correcting me in the replies: this was seven months ago, and I am a random person online, with my own views and opinions. you all have your own views too, but cmon. seriously?
I like it as a reflection of how those perceived as perfect and having it all are just under a different type of pressure, so become depressed for different reasons. There was a model years ago who was interviewed and given immense grief because her photos had been doctored by literally cutting oval shapes out of the mid section and pasting the two sides together. She hadn't done this, and she never claimed to be that slim. But she was the target of the abuse. In truth of course this was going on with a number of photos. Faking the unattainable isn't new. The people in that industry becoming depressed due to attacks from all sides isn't either. I won't be a hypocrite and say just be happy with who you are. I hated who I was and spent years becoming someone I liked. I will say be who you want to be and are happy being as much as you can rather than being driven into being someone you hate.
Hits hard when you went through primary school being bullied for being yourself, then going through high school hiding your true self behind hollow smiles and persona, losing yourself to the empty adoration.

@Justin O's Channel Gotta agree. When I was in a dark time of my life, everyone asked why I listened to such depressing music. But it was... I guess like a salve on a wound. It made me feel related to. Less alone. Validated. And now my life is much better, but I still listen to Evanescence because I remember how this music helped me. And it still feels like a lot of her lyrics were pulled straight from inner monologue.
Depression and self loathing is quite literally a killer, she carries the message here very well

For true Evanescence fans. This song may have hit TH-cam 13 years ago, but it was in fact 20 years ago I know they played a big part in my teenage years dealing with depression and anxiety. To this day they still help me
I was 3 years old when this song came out.

Much love to everybody ❤️
I like how when these songs came out, a lot of people hated on her because “this shit was too deep and cringey”. But now it’s the exact opposite. I’m so so proud to be one of the Evanescence lovers even back then when people hated on her

What a remarkable piece of art. Can't believe I appreciate this song even more in adulthood.
In my opinion at least lol
yeah but tourniquet was on another level, her songs are so emotional
Make your words my words. It took me a while to recognize how this song has good sound and content, as long as I avoided hearing it once.
What an incredibly powerful and haunting video. We all hide behind a mask. This band will always be a marker of my life. Thank you

@kimmyb908 I'm 45 just listening to their new album its awesome. Next tour I'm there lol
Yes, it applies now more than ever..."icons of self-indulgence"
You are so true. It's a serious epidemic. I think it's gonna be worse
This song was, is, and will always be relevant as long as the pop music industry is around
You got me
I don't feel like it's "WAY more relevant".

Amy Lee is Universal with her lyrics. You and your family take care.

Also, this music video eerily tells a slight variation of what happened to Britney Spears, the "MEGA IT GIRL" of the early 2000s.
tueher86. And it's funny you say that, because the song was originally written for her To perform!

what i would do to go back to the first time I saw this music video. i remember being 10 years old and amazed by this entire video.

+Zoie Gal Have you considered talking to them about this? Much pain goes unsung as people simply dont talk about their feelings :/
+Zoie Gal Yep same here even if I tell them how I feel and sad thing is I'm an adult. The struggle is real.
If you are almost 30 y.o. and you keep on coming back here everytime you are on the edge...... just know you are not alone.

They're alternative metal, sort of branching out from rock
Minahil Zaidi Yeah, that s kind of what I thought. It's a bit like with Breaking Benjamin, the majority of the time Bens singing in his great singing voice and then suddenly there's his blood curdling screams and huge and powerful guitar riffs. @@dantommo4797 I would say, not "maybe", but definitely. Social media reduces everyone to the lowest common denominator it seems. When most of life for young people is a shallow facade, depression is never far behind.
um, imma need you to cite a source for this claim that suicide is more common now. Other than population increase I don't know if that is true.
I think it’s over medicating people today. One of the main side effects to a lot of prescription meds is worsening depression/suicide…my big sister was not suicidal until she was prescribed meds like a guinea pig. Music like this has meaning and truth. And we all know it’s hard for us humans to listen to truths. This is why people who are more open minded, therefore more wise, gravitate towards this.
17 years later, if you're watching this, you're a legend.

I’m glad Amy is able to live a happy and low key life with her husband and son while still getting to continue her career and do it HER way.
that part where she breaks the mirror is real. So is when she cuts her hair. This video has such powerful imagery. Her breaking the mirror to me is her saying "i break the image forced on me"
how do you know it's true ?? o_O
zorianne1 i did an extensive biography on amy lee. in an interview, i cant remember which, she tell the interviewer that she accidentally broke the mirror but they kept it in. and you can tell her hair was cut because when she does the video duet with jonathan davis for freak on a leash, her hair is shorter and that was done shortly after this video
Perfect by nature
Icons of self indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that
Never was and never will be
Have you no shame don't you see me
You know you've got everybody fooled
Look here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh how we love you
No flaws when you're pretending
But now I know she
Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled
Without the mask where will you hide
Can't find yourself lost in your lie
I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don't love you anymore
Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you have everybody fooled
It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't save me
Somehow now you're everybody's fool

This song is timeless!
Never gets old.
Ahmed360 'cause pain is timeless
Thats right.
Thats a genius girl all i have to say because using your words "this song is timeless" is that what makes a geniurs. "Timeless"
And she is.
Ahmed360 Because it's Gold(Goldberg)!
Ahmed360 True no singer can replace her.
You never fail to help me heal from bad break ups. Amy you've always been there through me with pain.
I really wished they used this in the Britney Spears Documentary. This is essentially a call to help/support for the lifestyle Britney was thrown in.
Britney never was fake. She was sad but real. The paparazzis, media, her Family and Kevin Ferderline was so bad with her
@@embless1 Amy Lee did say something about her reaching out to Britney at one point back in 2004(can't remember when), but to paraphrase she said that she's willing to talk to Britney and her invitation is open.
@Ghost Ghost Ghost Britney herself was real. What her management and family wanted Britney to be and represent was fake.
14 years later, this song and video are still powerful as hell. Real talent.
So true
@@Annalovesanime25 dude wish she would do a song with Ivan Moody
The first time I watched this music video I was confused at first, like was their an ad on my DVD? I continued to watch the music video and understood a lot better was the song had started, it did not take long to really pay attention to the message and it quickly became my all time favourite music video and song. I always related to the idea of wearing a mask but I didn't know why until more recently. It's been over 10 years since I first watched this music video and it still hits hard. I love how the message was told, this is truly a work of art.
I was around 15, now 34 ( wow lol) when this album came out.
The lyrics are SUPER relevant to social media age.
Yeah for real
How i.miss these days... be a teenager wasnt easy, but i relly felt like involved by an aura, of somenthing special.
Same I 13 when I first heard evanescence
Just say it's an unappreciated song so ahead of it's time :)
Same here and same age haha, absolutely, social media was in its infacy back then and the message of the song was as strong then as it is now.
There is nothing better than a good lie 🥺 This song tells 1001 stories, human stories and how people hide behind their “happiness” , “perfect life” and “I’m ok”.
Today this song applies to social media influencers (youtube and instagram) and most of it's users too. Perfect on the outside but dead on the inside
Andrés R.A That's true those who don't try to show off are the happiest and satisfied in real life.
Fix it to 'applies', though :)
I hate the 2010's for this... Wish it was still the 90's or even early 2000's before everyone caught onto Social Media and everyone had cell phones
-Until they all commit suicide.
So true TH-cam are full of people who only show what they want you to see and people are to scared of the truth.
Im beginning to realize even most solid foundations of character can crumble if you get depressed. Please take care of yourself. ❤
It's the most common fear, one that every human has; the fear of what others think of you.

Amy lee would make a real good actor. Who else thinks so?

Yup. She should give it a shot...

The worst feeling is being “loved” by all because they see you as having it together- beautiful etc. But never being seen and not being accepted for your flaws ..... trust me it is not a fun place to be.
The song is one of the best from Evanesecnce. But this video is actually one of the best videos ever that no one is talking about.
I just realized this song is about depression, faking happiness, and possibly anxiety, not rivalry and being an outcast-
edit: for everyone correcting me in the replies: this was seven months ago, and I am a random person online, with my own views and opinions. you all have your own views too, but cmon. seriously?
I guess it could be interpreted both ways? But yeah, to me it's more about having to take happiness to hide what's really going on in your head
@Michael Peck Yeah that would make sense
I will say be who you want to be and are happy being as much as you can rather than being driven into being someone you hate.
as long as there's no official explanation, it can be interpreted any way you want
Things I must do alot and have a lot
Hits hard when you went through primary school being bullied for being yourself, then going through high school hiding your true self behind hollow smiles and persona, losing yourself to the empty adoration.

This song is timeless. Since prehistoric times this fakery has been present and it always will be. It's incredible how well this song portrays it and how incredibly Amy plays the role.
I’m not fake!
Yess! People are saying that this song is ahead of its time, but the point of this song and video have existed for decades and decades, if anything this song is behind its time

I miss evanescence so much :( good times
Regina George omg, it's you!

Alexandria Ramos
do you live under a rock or something
First post was clearly refering to the fact Evanescence is not mainstream anymore so you dont hear much about them like before.
I would recommend Unsun, which is over since 2011 but it's one of my favorites none the less, and Lacuna Coil.
Amy Lee is one of the few who perfected goth rock without coming off as pretentious
Give credit to the band, in general.
@Justin O's Channel exactly. Amy's lyrics acknowledge pain and then remind you that you can overcome it. Helped me a lot through my teenage years.
wtf, when was this goth?
