    Outbacks are THE boat. Not too heavy, perfect width/length and stability. I have a 2017, I think it was the first year with the reverse. They have made great improvements over the years. Got me thinking about selling mine and upgrading. Another plus is they hold value. Congrats on yours.

    Great upgrade!! For a serious fisherman, the outback is the way to go. And for a guy that lives in skinny water all day long, you are going to love those kick up fins. I can only imagine how many times you had to bend those rods back into shape. My 2020 is doing great. I added the Scotty cup holder and a hatch in the front. Looking at the Boonedox rudder and the cockpit padding kit. Very happy for you my friend!😎

    The Outback is a great compromise between a Compass and a Pro-Angler. The variety of fishing scenarios it allows make it, perhaps, the best all-around fishing kayak that Hobie offers. Only better fishing kayak out there is the Hobie Adventure/Tandem Island, which simply gives you a tremendous speed and range advantage. But they are a lot more money.

      The PA is nice but I’d need a forklift to move it outside of the water. :)

    Hey, Ron. Nice kayak. I considered a Hobie, but I went with the Wilderness Systems Recon 120HD because it seemed to have better stability with a higher seat (important for a geriatric like me). I had a chance to fish with a friend who has the Hobie Outback and observed that it was a bit faster with better maneuvering in tight spaces and could go into shallower water with the fins than I could with my propeller down. I am looking forward to watching your next video catching fish in the new boat!

    • @KayakFishingAddict
      @KayakFishingAddict  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John. The Wilderness Systems boats are good as well. The best boat is the one you use! I agree that the Hobie gets into tighter water with the fins. That's the type of marsh systems I fish all the time so the Hobie was a better fit for me. Tight lines!

    I had a 2020 Hobie compass and as a river fisherman I loved the kick up fin’s but I hated the seat and the kayak wasn’t stable to me at all. Went with SS127 with a iX3 and I LOVE the stability, the high seat, and I no longer have any lower back pain.

    • @KayakFishingAddict
      @KayakFishingAddict  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bonafide makes a nice boat. So you went with the iX3 motor. The motored kayak market seems to be growing now that manufacturers are making shorter shafted trolling motors. Did you mount it in the front or in the back?

    Bought a sunrise camo version yesterday. Fish mainly everglades/biscayne bay. Hated having to remove drive on my slayer max native so the lock up feature is what really sold me.
    The thoughtful little touches hobie adds makes my native a distant memory. Lanyards, mounting points, storage. Its next level.

    Nice kayak! PA-12 or PA-14? I had an older Outback that I sold when I started my boat build. I do plan to build my own kayak once I finish the skiff. The dimensions will be close to those of a Hobie Outback, but will build using the stitch and glue method. The goal is to end up with a kayak that's about half the weight of a plastic boat. Like one of the other comments mentioned, plastic boats are heavy for us older guys to lug around!

    Nice fishing rod! What is the largest fish it can handle?
    As for the boat, good to see you're carrying a paddle, too: nothing can save you in times of trouble - strong wind, high waves - like a good paddle and some good paddling. The pedalling can come in handy under so many circumstances! For lakes and deep, calm rivers, this kayak is a great choice - well, to the select few who can afford it.

    • @KayakFishingAddict

    Hey, Ron. Great videos - and thanks for all the time you take to keep us informed. Speaking of which, at some point would you mind doing a video about the Garmin GPS/Fishfinder that you're using, how you use it, does it get in your way when fishing, et cetera? I have the same kayak you do and I'm considering the Echomap Plus 44cv, but knowing the kayak is rigged for Lowrance is making me second guess myself. Lowrance only offers the larger GPS/Fishfinders and I'm worried about my right knee/leg hitting it (I'm 6'3") or my rod smacking into it on a low cast. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again - Bill

    • @KayakFishingAddict
      @KayakFishingAddict  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad you enjoy the channel! I typically only use my fish finder for GPS. That way I can wind myself deep in the marsh and get back out by following the GPS path that got me in there. I do store a few waypoints but I never use them. And only on a rare occasion do I use it to find fish....the marsh systems I fish are typically 2'-4' deep and that's not deep enough for a fish finder to find fish. I'm 6'2" and it doesn't get in my way at all. I have a video up on how to mount it which has helped many to adapt the Garmin to a Lowrance ready kayak - th-cam.com/video/QKIU2lFFBjg/w-d-xo.html - which might give you a few ideas.

      Hi Jeremy. Thanks. I'll look for you. Yes, I used a similar mounting strategy. I got some copper plated strips this time. When I took the transducer out of my Compass those brackets had dissolved completely. It was 2.5 years in a lot of salt water, but there was no remnant of them. I'm hoping the copper plated version does better. But either way, it was well worth the $1.18 I paid. And yes, the fish finder works great. There's a lot more room in the Outback for the transducer.

      @@KayakFishingAddict very cool, that is a good option. I will keep that in mind for sure on the 2022 Outback. I finished my 2016 this past weekend and paired the Striker 4cv with the Nocqua Pro 10. The GT20 transducer that comes with the 4cv is longer, so it made it more difficult, but once the plate was screwed on the hull keeps the transducer level. Thanks again for the quick response!

    • @KayakFishingAddict
      @KayakFishingAddict  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tons of Hobie Outbacks? I just looked at the ones in my location and there are three. All three are 5+ years old; so in my area these folks are likely upgrading. That said, I'm sure there are many reasons.....buyers remorse may be one of them. I sold my Hobie Compass on Craigslist/FB Marketplace before getting this Outback though so I'm not sure you can base all of the listings on any one reason....certainly not buyers remorse for me. The Hobie Compass was a great yak and the Hobie Outback is an even better yak IMHO.

    Is there a big difference in weight as far as car toping Outback vs Compass. I know you use a PU but i will be using a Jeep Grand Cherokee plus 68 yrs old in-good shape. i had a pa14 way to heavy on the beach soft sugar sand even with ballon tires. Was also looking at Lynx but SC Oysters would destroy the bottom of that board !TIA

    • @KayakFishingAddict
      @KayakFishingAddict  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally, if you’re car topping then I would avoid the outback. Even the compass was a little challenging but it was very doable when I car topped it before I had my pick up. But I wouldn’t even try car topping an outback. That said, I’ve seen other TH-camrs do it so if you are gonna tackle it I would make sure that you watch some of their videos they have some tools and techniques that will help.
      I think there is about a 25 pound difference maybe a 20 pound difference between the two hulls.

    Is the deck more solid under your feet on the Outback over the Compass while standing?
    On my Compass when I pole around longer than about 20 minutes I get foot/ankle pain because my feet are slightly sinking into the thin plastic.

    • @KayakFishingAddict
      @KayakFishingAddict  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, great question. I haven't noticed yet. However, I did notice on the Compass that I needed to adjust the styrofoam placement to support when I was standing. Take a look inside your hull if you haven't already and you'll see they reinforce the plastic with styrofoam. Perhaps shifting that will help you eliminate the pain!
